a lot of puzzles can be simplified knowing that if you collect the starite soon enough, you can't lose by dying. if you die and the starite drops on your corpse soon after, you still win. if it's too late, you're interrupted by the retry/change buttons in the middle of the victory music.

don't bother using each item once too strictly. If something funny comes up, like, say, using a nuke in the 4-4 puzzle, that would be nicer than if you used a nuke in another level and never used it again. I think exploiting the game's quirks for the lowest object par is a good idea, as well.

Is "newbie" really a better fit than "newcomer?" Nine times out of ten, it's used in a negative fashion. Maybe I'm just being crotchety...

Yeah, the tutorial levels are really stupid. The rest of the game is kind of fun, I guess. It's not the "best game ever", but it's ok.
So you expect the tutorial, the thing that's supposed to tell you how the game works, to be hard?

hah. you don't even get into the game and you're both throwing down retarded opinions without thinking about it.

The any% SMB run isn't very interesting, really. It's on the site because it's freakin' Super Mario Bros, but as a run it's pretty dull. This game isn't freakin' Super Mario Bros.
So what you're saying is that you play favorites and host unthrilling, useless extra TASes for games just because they're those games. Jesus christ, why not just rename the site Metroid & Mario Videos, if that's what it's about.

then goddamn, why worry about how fast it's done if it's all about entertainment? The PURPOSE, as you say, is to entertain. Not to do it fast. Choose one or the other.

last time I checked TAS never required usage of glitches or any crap like that. Whatever happened to TASes simply being a demonstration of the fastest time in which one could possibly complete a game? On top of that, what constitutes a good or bad game is entirely up to who watches it, so if someone is willing to create a TAS of what you consider a bad game, why deny it for those who actually may want to see it? a TAS is a TAS. It's not Tool Assisted Speedruns of Games We Think Should Have One. call it a video tutorial if you like, but making an attempt to complete it as fast as possible sounds like a good enough reason to post something on a site where things are done as fast as possible.

Either it's already fixed or you're the dense one, because it doesn't appear as if any images are "replaced". Certainly not mine. edit: what I mean is, don't say "every" when you goddamn well don't mean it.
protip: if you are going to assume something, assume the one least likely to make you look like a complete jackass. For the record, it was every image, and was aparrently only recently fixed, so kiss my ass.
And you're an asshole, because I included "either it's fixed" in my sentence, you illiterate.

I'm a bit excited for Project64's LLE, so you'll have to forgive me if I say I don't trust other emulators to be that great.

There are a number of Saturn shooters which are visually impressive and would make for excellent "perfect" TAS runs. Some are original and some are arcade ports, but the best of the arcade ports are worth TASing on the Saturn since they may not play in FinalBurn. Thunderforce V Soukyugurentai/Terra Diver Keio Flying Squadron 2 Battle Garrega I also second Guardian Heroes and Silhouette Mirage.
never heard of the other games but battle garegga obviously works just fine in FBA. there isn't a whole lot that doesn't work, I think.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think every port of rayman is different from the PC version, with a little asking around. If TASing DOSbox or something similar does get around to happening, I would think that version would still be the preferable one.

There's a saturn version of Rayman? Forgive the offtopicness, but is it identical to the PC version? I've been looking to play through the game and dosbox is retarded when it comes to recording cd audio, in all my experiences.

Well, guess what: It DID sound like you were trying to say TASers were superior. There wasn't anything there to stop from mixing TASers and regular players into the same point, and that would be the problem. You'd probably have done better if you made it clear in that one message I quoted. It's the only thing that explains why he got mad about it at that point and not earlier.

You gave the wrong reasons for TAS submissions to be disqualified over live runs. for one. Then you went on to say "the best one is he who can finish the game faster", completely tossing aside the fact that if you said that to anyone else in competitive gaming, they'd be pretty damn mad about the trivialization of their skills. You basically said "it doesn't matter how good you are, we don't need and skill and we're better than you" After which he mocked you for it.
