No, you need the extra height to get over it.

I also have a couple questions. First, is the order of the stages fixed?
The whole upper floor is available at the start, but the ice level and the basement are fixed as the two last levels, and the basement has to be done before the ice level becomes available.

Second, could the first boss be killed closer to the floor to save time when he exits the screen after dying?
His pattern is fixed, so he will always fly up first. The first frame he can die is also fixed for some reason, so you see him flying for quite a while after he hits 0 hp...

Indeed, that should be faster, seeing as you can't attack him at full speed with the sword there. Anyway, this run is very awesome so keep it up :)

Not to mention that of the 18 submissions currently on the bench this is the 3rd newest.

PM him on youtube, or try to contact him through someone like gocha (who I know hang on some of the same forums) would probably be your best bet.

Well, it didn't make me shout 10/10, but it was pretty awesome anyway :) Yes.

It could potentially happen. I would most likely vote no on it as well, because I chose not to use X-ray for what I think is a good reason. But the general audience might disagree. It would not become a separate category anyway.

Why does that bullet bill glitch speed things up so much? It doesn't really look faster but you have to wait maybe 2-3 seconds to do it in some places. Anyway, yes vote. I don't find these runs very entertaining but it is an improvement in both time and style, so anything else wouldn't really make much sense :)

This bump reminds me that I'm still working on this run... haven't touched it for a few months, which is silly because I'm like 5-10 minutes from finishing it (almost back at the pirate ship after cleaning up Zebes). The main problem is that I can't get some PB drops, and without them I will lose time later. The fact that the improvement is pretty small (IIRC about 40 seconds so far) also helps to demotivate.

M = 24 dps (1 damage per projectile, 12 pairs shot per second) F = 6-30 dps (the uppgraded flame shot consists of 5 projectiles, when all projectiles land it does 30, and when only one land, like in the 3D levels it does 6). For C there isn't a definite answer. For most enemies it does a maximum of 5 damage per shot, but sometimes only do 3 or 4. 5 per projectile giving a dps rate of 25, but the weaker shots dropping it down a bit. For some enemies it does a lot more damage, the boss in stage 3 for example takes double damage from it, which makes it far superior to any other weapon there. The mini boss on the rocket also takes extra damage from it, but not nearly as much. Some bosses always take 5 damage per projectile (stage 6 and 8). And then there is splash damage (taken advantage of on the boss of stage 4). So I really can't give any specific number on that.

one note, though. at the very beginning, when you selected your difficulty, your cursor was already on Hard. my memory is failing me; is it like that by default?
No, but you can change the difficult to hard before the options get on screen.

In case anybody is wondering where submission 2336 has gone: I deleted it to only have one submission of this game left. As far as I could tell, they were the same either way.
I had some trouble with my connection when submitting the run, so I probably did an accidental double post.

Oh, forgot to mention. In the autoscrolling water level, killing the blue guys faster doesn't speed things up. As long as they are killed within a certain timeframe the next wave appears at the same time, and the reason they aren't killed faster anyway is to remove weird lag. Youtubed

I was a bit surprised you decided to go with F for the last boss, was it not available earlier? Or is there something I'm missing?
In the 3D stages F does 1 damage instead of 5, the losses in the 3D stages from taking F instead of M (and getting a second F) outweigh the gains from having F in the other stages.

Question: Why do you not hit the boss as much as possible on Stage 5 (that fish boss)? It seems like you could do more damage to him then you do. Explanation?
Well, it appears that you only have to shoot him once every round, when he stops the laser, and any more won't damage him additionally (you see that after each round he looses a pair of spikes on his back, when all are gone he dies, and he can only lose one pair each time) . So this fight is just about hitting him on the first frame that he is vulnerable every time. I did not know of this prior to making the run.

New test gave me INTP. Introverted (I) 63.33% Extroverted (E) 36.67% Intuitive (N) 52.63% Sensing (S) 47.37% Thinking (T) 82.76% Feeling (F) 17.24% Perceiving (P) 54.05% Judging (J) 45.95% I think this applies better to me than INTJ, when I read the type descriptions.
The test wrote:

The bolded ones surprised me a lot, and are also true. The underlined ones are not really true. The rest is pretty accurate, as well as the favored and unfavored careers.

I(33%) N(12%) T(75%) J(33%) Hurray for being somewhat unusual but incredibly mainstream as far as this forum goes. I don't think the description given fits that well on me though, and a lot of times I was unsure of how I really felt about the questions asked (would have liked 3 or 5 options on some of the questions...).

Voting yes, this was a very cool hack. Gotta love the 8-bit version of the Red Brinstar theme from Super Metroid, as well as the 8-bit version of the Super Mario RPG version of the original underground theme :)

moozooh: I think there is a difference (though I don't know the game too well). I think that you can get Maria on a normal playthrough, and that she is not a bonus character that you get after completing the game.

I'd prefer stage 4', sure it's not very entertaining but stage 4 wasn't the most entertaining either. And you do aim for speed after all, even though it is with a suboptimal character.
