I vote for cardboard as most productive, for making *4* super metroid runs, as well as other runs that aren't just measly sub 10 minute easy cheesey runs.
Are you sure you didn't mean to say "for not making *4* Super Metroid runs" ;)

Yeah, I also noted this. Every time it skipped to the beginning it made me cringe... Lucky that it only played in one (two?) level(s).

In this case I think it might be possible that all 4 categories can co-exist. Julius run and the any% warped run is completely illogical to obsolete, and the non warped any% is so very different from a 100% run that it'd be stupid to obsolete that one too. And a All Souls run in itself is so well justified that there should be no question whether or not it should be allowed.

Yeah, I have to agree that the sunsoft levels should be finished.

Wow, this was absolutely wonderful. I never thought that I'd enjoy seeing a run of this game so much. Nearly every level had a surprising strategy, and the amount of planning that went in to this run is clearly noticeable. I think that this is the first run that really justifies a star category for puzzle games, and I would vote for this to get one. 8/8.5

Yeah, basically you just de-equip all suits and make sure to stay above 100 hp after the hyper beam (the beam drains 600 hp without varia on), and under some amount I can't remember, probably 300. Then you will be able to press up while kneeling and samus will stand up. There are a couple of points in the fight where you will be forced into kneeling position again (until the cutscene ends this time) unless you are in the air when it happens, like the moment where the metroid attaches itself to Mother Brain.

Aww, the video froze (while the audio continued) for me while Samus was in the room right before the one you normally first get powerbombs in. It didn't appear to fix itself if I fast-forwarded, either. Did this happen to anyone else?
Nope, it runs fine for me from start to end.

Very awesome, many thanks :D EDIT: Yesterday Kejardon posted some footage of his ongoing hack project, which can be seen here. I gotta say, it looks like there is plenty of potential for TASing in there :)

i would prefer to see a 120 run with every possible glitch than a 70 star run that you have to limit yourself to "the way it was intended to be played". With all the glitch possible, I would really prefer a 120 stars run.
Well there will be a 120 star run doing just that (well, using every timesaving glitch), no matter if there is a 70 star run or not. The question is if a 70 star run is justified as a third category. In my opinion it is. A BLJ less 70 star run would not only require some route planning (making the end result a lot more surprising than wither of the runs currently published/being worked on), but would also have to invent a lot of new level strategies instead of BLJ raping half of them (not that BLJing is boring, but the alternative might be just as interesting).

I agree that an "all quests" run is well justified, as I understand that the any% run is going to skip a lot of the game. But it should definitely be done from a fresh savefile (as in not NG+).

It's being worked on, though at the moment not very quickly. And we are reworking a large part of the run, but about 90% of it can be hexed back to normal (with some effort).

SMW (1 Star) SMW small only SMW any% I still think that small only is a better visual exhibit of TAS power (as well as being more entertaining IMO), and thus I think it should get the star. The any% run still isn't a bad pick though. Super Metroid (1 Star) Super Metroid any% glitched Super Metroid any% real time Super Metroid any% ingame time Super Metroid 100% 100% wins by a large margin here. If we can't have two 100% Metroid runs starred then I'd much rather have this 100% run and the MZM any% starred instead. I still prefer both the SM and MZM 100% runs starred though, since I think that they stand out above the rest. Metroid (1 Star) Metroid Zero Mission 100% Metroid any% Metroid Fusion 100% I think that MF has too much downtime without having better gameplay than MZM, so the MZM 100% run wins here. If we can't have two 100% runs then I vote for MZM any%. Megaman (1 Star) Mega Man 1 Mega Man 2 Both are very good picks, but in the end I think I prefer Mega Man 2, due to being easier to follow (while still being hilariously broken every here and there), as well as having better graphics, music and variation. Zelda (1 Star) The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening DX I prefer LoZ here, but once tompas new A Link to the Past run is done I'll most likely be voting for that one instead. Castlevania (2 Stars) Castlevania Castlevania: HoD Castlevania: CotM Castvlevania and CotM for pretty much the same reason as moozooh. If anyone ever finished a all souls run of Aria of Sorrow I think that one has a good chance to replace one of them (NEW Castlevaina IMO) Special concept (3 Stars) MMX+MMX2 Gradius Kings Bounty Monopoly River City Ransom Lost Vikings I'd only give this category two stars as it looks now, in which case Gradius wins by a long shot, followed by the dual run. SNES/Gens games (2 Stars) Biker Mice from Mars Sparkster Donkey Kong Country Golden Axe Rocket Knight Adventures Comix Zone The Mask DKC any% and either RKA or Sparkster are those I prefer here. N64 (1 Star) Majora’s Mask Goldeneye With Mario 64 0 star being starred already, I'd say neither here. Right now N64 only needs one star.

Indeed. This only works for one room though, every other room already has a optimal "timer cycle" or whatever. 49.23

It compares well to what a suitlless high% run because they try to achieve similar goals. SMW small only - Completing as many stages as possible without any upgrades, then finishing the game. SM Suitless high% - Collecting as many items as possible without any any suits, then finishing the game. This run would be the equal of a SMW run that tried to complete the game as fast as possible without any upgrades, with the difference that this one also has a glitch restriction.

I think a playaround has a lot of potential, even though some of the best stuff would be impossible to fit in there (due to either taking a really long time to set up, eventually crashing the game, screwing up the graphics making everything after that unwatchable etc.). There are still a lot of funny abuses and glitches, as well as interesting ways to move through many rooms which are slower than the optimal ones. I have been thinking about doing one (not for publication purpose though) but never actually gotten to it. Another category (not for publication) is the newgame+ run I made, which could also be extended to not using the X-ray glitch.

what would be your reason for rejecting this run against the audience and the purpose of this site, other than the pointless category thing? Just curious.
Now I'm not really the right person to answer this since I'm not a judge, but I'm pretty sure the category thing is the main reason here, and it has always brought up controversy when a run many people liked gets obsoleted because of it. If and when the rules for multiple categories get more lenient I stand behind this category 100%, as well as the RBO category, but as it is now it just doesn't work. Also just so you know, most rejections during the period when you could vote Yes/No (in fact probably all except for some very rare cases) have gone against the majority, it's not special for this run.[/u]

The run looks very awesome so far, great job! I'm wondering what the reminder of your rupes are for, the only thing I can recall are the zora flippers which only cost 300 (I think).

Also, what Metroid run(s?) is/are the best suited for a star?
For the GBA ones I'd say either of the Metroid Zero Mission runs would fit. Personally I think the 100% one is a better pick due to having a lot of really really fast action, especially towards the end, as well as just being genuinely entertaining, but the any% is very good too (as well as being mroe up to date and shorter). For Super Metroid I'd say it should have at least one star due to being such a fast paced and TAS friendly game. My opinion is that the 100% run is the best pick becuase it has more, as well as much faster and more diverse, action compared to the other ones. Other than that it just shows a lot of tricks and strategies you can't even come close to doing on console, clearly visible luckmanipulation very precise ammo/health management and a route which is impossible to do on console due to energy restrictions. And it shows a lot of the stuff done in the other runs as well. If there where to be two starred Super Metroid runs (not saying that there should) I'd say that the other one should be the glitched run even though by many it is considered less entertaining than the two other any% runs. The reason is that while the 100% run basically shows pretty much everything there is to Super Metroid, making the non glitched any% runs pretty superfluous, the glitched run shows something completely different, and the sequence break in it is one of the most elaborate ones I can think of ever (and in practice it is impossible to do on console without getting extra items). As for Metroid I don't really feel that strongly either way so I'll leave this for others. EDIT: Also on the matter of SMW I agree completely with Fabian here. If I would pick the SMW run that visually best displays the power of tool assistance small only would most definitely be the one. I also think it is the most entertaining one.
