Damn, that's a nice one great job. I have some suggestions for improvements on this small part though. You didn't seem to have any problems with health, so trying to manipulate the small energyball into a missile (might be hard while still getting the somewhat rare big energy ball from the skree) would save time if you succeed. The mockball to spazer beam can be improved by using a missile to shoot the block there, instead of using a normal beam shot (I think you know about that). After spazer you could take a damageboost from one of the spikes coming from the cactus while still grabbing a super missile, you only need to manipulate it so that it shoots them fast enough. In the first room of kraid I'm pretty sure you can save a frame or two by after unmorphing after the mockball use LR to aim up and as you press up to stand shoot at the same time. This gives the shot a boost in either speed or position, which I don't know. That's about it.

The author even links to the emulator he used, and you would not be able to even start the movie in 1.51 anyway. Depending on what ROM you have it might still desynch though.

You can unmorph right on the last frame before the edge to run off the ledge.
Tested and it is slower than the fastest strategy I know, both for having and not having wave.

Heh, great run. I actually didn't think you would be able to kill the final boss with one blow, I guess manipulating strength from level ups really makes that big a difference. Yes vote :)

It isn't, while you get to the next room faster being in morphball form makes going down the edge of the cliff take much longer.

Question: is this the type of RPG run that is entertaining for someone who hasn't played the game before?
Well I don't think it demands much from the viewer, it is fairly easy to understand and all that. Having played it of course raises the entertainment value but that's the same for almost any game. I'd say give it a try, I liked it (and I usually don't like RPG runs very much, even if I have played them).

I thought that the speed is also added to the super, allowing it to travel low and fast enough to hit low enough.. (?)
I don't think the speed can be contained for that extra frame it takes to aim diagonally.

Oh, and:

The next timesaver is the timesaver Cpadolf accidently spoiled in Spoofers WIP. Although incredibly hard to detect, it saved about 9-13 frames. (This is hard to measure, but it's somewhere in that area) Some weird bug/glitch/abuse allows the eye-door, during certain circumstances, to be shot even though it is not on-screen, and even if it's not opened (I think).
First of, I didn't spoil it, the WIP I leaked did not contain this, not that it matters. Second, I always assumed that this worked simply because when you where crouched the Super Missile started from a few pixels lower, allowing you to hit the eye from further away, Maybe there is more to it, I don't know. I don't think that it matters if it is of screen by just a little.

Here I have not measured if it actually is faster though.

Wasn't the walljump method to the Etecoon PBs faster? Also, why didn't you use hero's way of doing that Dachora room with the speed booster and wave, I thought it's faster.
If you need to pick up PB refills the shinespark is faster. About the dachora room though, I think heros method of releasing forward for one frame just before the breakable blocks to lose the bluesuit and then keep running should be faster. Anyway, this RBO looks really great, the level of optimization is of course not on par with the any% you are doing (but not bad either) but it does what a RBO should do, it entertains like nothing else. And there where some really nice tricks here and there, like the kago room in LN on the way back (and the way there also for that matter). I really hope you can finish this one before too long (since you don't need to spend days optimizing small areas) so that we will have at least one completed RBO TAS, instead of 25 that reached the point where you are now before dropping it...

That was pretty great, but now of course I have to ask what the hell is a smb? Is it the momentum boost that allows you to land further in on a platform if you position yourself correctly? Also I doubt I have ever seen such horrendous drops from phantoon, one missile, no supers 7!?! Power bombs... But yeah anyway, truly awesome work and breathtaking optimization. But I would actually have preferred a run that optimized everything for realtime, there is a lot time to gain on that, and I would really have liked to see what you guys had come up with if you aimed for that. I'll check that RBO soon. EDIT: And I found a very unexpected timesaver not long ago, the intro can be improved by one frame, which because of what I guess is some frame rule becomes 3 frames (check with input display when I select the gamefile). Now most likely for a run that aims for a ingame optimized ceres this is completely useless, unless it turns out that the manipulation can be made faster with this (or if this allows ceres to be done without delays at all... unlikely as it seems) but still. I guess that's what you get for being lazy with turbo =/ http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1172630866/!Intro!.smv

Out of all those, the only one I would find interesting at all is the purist minimal input, counting the number of keys pressed down each frame.

Very awesome run, no doubt a yes vote. I was really impressed by all those little weird timesavers that many would have missed, due to making "obviously faster, but actually slower" choices. Entertainment was done very good as well.

Matrix has never been about story, plot or any character development. Unless you're deeply into Chinese Mythologies then the chances are you watched them purley for the fight scenes. Off the top of my head one fight scene lasts 4 mins, another one lasts nearly 9 mins and a car chase at the end which lasts for over 17 mins.
Well I never cared that much for the action scenes in The Matrix (okay I really like them and they definitely should be there, but they are not the reason I love the movie) and I still think that the first one is one of the 10 best movies ever...

I think he means the route is as good as it is going to get (which is pretty likely). I hope that he does not think this is a perfect run though.

Noticed some of the timesavers, most obviously BitFS, liked the camera angels and "idle time acting" better than the last run, yes vote. I wonder if it will go below 5:30 next time :)

While I would like to see a 70 star run (BLJ less, no the are not boring, but removing them would keep the run from being a 120 star run copy - 50 stars, and I'm sure plenty of entertaining strategies could be found instead of BLJ's), what I would really like to see is a playaround, because frankly the most entertaining videos of this game I have seen is those of Mario doing random extremely crazy stuff. Grabbing whatever stars you feel like, no restrictions on what glitches to use, and finish it in half an hour.

Who is working on the new run, Mister? Gonna watch this tomorrow, how much faster is it at this point compared to the published run?
