I think tub meant a move that only was 1000 frames, not a 1000 frame segment of one.
No not really, but amongst the Super Metroid community he most definetely was 2-2.5 years ago. And I think he started to reverse his good reputation around the time he started to make/stopped working on his any%.

I completely agree with this, I find myself doing stuff like that all the time with games I play intensively, you entertain yourself by doing random stuff. You could make the point that when actually recording something you should try to stop with this, but if someone have played through the same cutscene 100 times I think it is to much to ask from him to not do stuff that keeps himself occupied or make him not fall asleep/go crazy.

At some points it should be noticeable, but to be honest there are such ridiculous amounts of lag in this game that it will probably look about the same. In the submission text I will compile a list of the lag left in each stage versus the amount of lag present in the last version.
What I think is more noticeable is the much greater precision and playing more with danger.

Well I'm working on an improvement to this, I'm at the end of stage 5 and have yet to miss anything. (I think so at least, though one volcano rock is impossible to destroy because it appears to far to the right, rendering it invulnerable and some projectiles is not destroyed by me but by the enviroment)
And after frameadvancing through big parts of this run I see that already at the end of stage 5 he have missed probably 100+ projectiles and I think even some enemies, in level 4 he misses a lot of those fire rings (and it at least looks like he aims to destroy them to) and in level 5 he misses a lot of small rocks.
Also it looks like I will be up to 3 minutes faster.

Really the skill needed is not constant, a extremely well done segmented run is just as hard to beat as a relatively equally well done singel segmented run. It depends on the skill and effort that the author of the existing run put into it, not if it is segmented or single segmented. When doing a run of a game that has yet to get one it is of course easier to make a good looking segmented run but the skill that it takes to make depends on the author, not the choice of how to make the run. (IMO)
I think my opinion here is valid because I have done all three(TAS, SS, segmented)

I think taco has a couple of more timesavers he have not shown yet, and he is just holding them until Saturn says something along the usual lines again. If not, the timing of taco's disoveries is completely crazy.

Well with enough patience, yes most probably would be able to sooner or later. However I think most people with proper equipment and time/patience could also get a run up on SDA, as long as they pick the right game and stay away from runs like Super Metroid in 00:32.
Well you can't choose any game you want to, games that are to simple to be meaningful to TAS or games that are simply boring won't get published.
Well anyone can make a near perfect speedrun of an easy game, there is still some skill involved but easy enough games can be nearly perfected by anyone. And for advanced games that has well done runs you need skill and knowledge to be able to beat them, both for regular speedruns and TASes.
Well define close, a second or even a half of a second off is not to be considered close from a TASing standpoint. And even so, close is irrelevant. It is beating the records that matter, and I would like to see someone do that in 2 hours
Give someone a month and I doubt they will be even close to beating the sonic 2 TAS record, what's your point? (Or well I don't know how well optimized that TAS is since I haven't watched it but my point is about well optimized TASes of complex games in general)
Sorry if this post was all over the place, I'm tired.

Yes this speedrun is definitely the best that has been submitted to SDA in a long time, very good quality all the way through and a very good game to work with in the first place (very entertaining, very fast and lots of possibilities because of the engine and it's glitches). Makes you wonder what a TASer could make of this game with proper tools :)

After you have speedbooster and you are running each step increments your Y speed at a jump by some ammount (8192 subpixels or something like that) though the first time you reach 6.65535+ the first time it resets to 6.0 (dunno if it does this again with with even higher speeds) this should be as kriole say to make the jump at 7.0 px speed not be completely ridiculous.

Yeah I was trying to do that for a long time, for example by slowing down so that the shot would move slower, didn't work though, if it did optimally I think it would save 5 or 6 frames. Also by environmental are you talking about the fact that skipping armpumps at different places will give you different subpixel positions (a.i because of the slope your positions changes differently depending on where you are) or is it something else?
Also damn you for saving 1 more frame than me :P

They most certainly must have since I did so myself in the 100% run :)
Only by 2 frames though, and strictly from optimization, no new stuff.
What discovery? I'm very interested in this becuase of all the time I have put into this room.

Yeah that's why hero and I just try to make progress instead of redoing minutes of work for a frame or two (though admittedly we spent like a week at a series of rooms and remade everything over and over again to save a couple of frames) At this point I know about like 10 or so frames of improvement between the start and the end of kraid.
Also weird save taco, very unexpected results from just not turning around. Also get to the diagonal room already!! I wanna see what you can do there :)

It is unoptimized relative to the currently published SMB3 TASes (which are near perfect). Every new TAS of a game (or a game with the same engine as another game) must be as optimized (or very close to at least) as the currently most optimized published TAS of that game.

Excellent run, definite yes vote.
I dunno if the last run publisheed had this but the last one I saw at least deathwarped to ligar, so seeing you jump straight through the wall to encounter him in a glitched up place was very cool and surprising :)
Really hope you finish up a full run to, the currently published one at least looks very outdated.

Bleh, I'm bored. So I'll put up one last WIP.
This ends right at the 4th boss and I'm 4400+ frames ahead of the old run at this point. (mah gawd!!)
The 3rd level sucked to TAS, both the volcano part and the sandwall part was very boring to work on. (hence the small progress since the last WIP relative to the time taken to make it) Also at this point I have by far exceeded the last movie in % of kills, krocketneo missed a lot of the rings those easter island statues shot and they do give points so I aimed to get all, (and did) also I got more of the volcano stones (in fact I only missed one and due to where it spawns it is actually impossible to kill as you can't shot things on the far right of the screen. I still have a lot less points though but that is because I kill enemies that spawn other enemies faster I think.
Also it might look like I miss some things in level 4 but that is only visual confusion from the scrolling screen, I'm quite sure nothing escapes the left side of the screen.
I predict the final gain to be ~10000 frames, maybe even more since I think I can end the input like 1000 frames sooner than he did.
Click
EDIT: Also I didn't turn on sync samples with CPU sound, that fucks up my computer and the game hangs almost instantly. If I remember I'll add it in to the last rerecord before finishing the movie.

Super Metroid is by far the game I am best at, TAS or not. Playing it since around 2000 I estimate that I have completed it somewhere between one and two hundred times (from start to finish that is) and have reached times few others have. My knowledge of the game is also by far greater than that I have of any other game.
After that I don't really have any games that I truly stand out in, in both Castlevaina AoS and DoS I have reached low times though (probably my favorite speedrunning games after SM)
I'm also quite decent at Starcraft (though that perception would likely be changed if I tried to enter a tournament of any kind) and I'm totally roxzors on Elite Beat Agents and Elasto Mania :)

Obvious yes vote. I never really liked the game (except for the music which for most part is awesome) but it makes a fantastic TAS. Very much speed and fast maneuvering, also I love the simple and goofy character animations, the skeleton jumping around really made my day.
Sen älskar jag namnet på input filen :p
