Do you guys (Hero and Cpadolf) plan on posting a WIP any time soon?
Sorry, we are not planning on WIPing at all until we are finished.

Though to be fair without the last routechange it would have saved max 3-4 seconds. If that even.

Sure you don't mean with speedbooster+spacejump? We can't skip kraid until after Maridia since we need that E-tank now. Also some time is lost entering the area since we start of in the middle of the room. Anyway if the gain would really be that much that is insanely great news.

Dunno really, we refilled at pipe bugs 3 times, once on the way to speedbooster (No not avoidable, possibly would have been with sacrifices that would have made it slower in the end) which I think cost about a second, once after speedbooster, should have cost about a second too and once before the bluegate to crocmire which should have cost between 1 and 2 seconds and refilling the R-tank ingame cost 100 frames. Then there are other small losses here and there because of needing to refill from enemies. Since the gain from not having to backtrack to kraid for the PB is ~14 seconds and a second or two are gained from having speedbooster at kraid (not to talk about the realtime gains from skipping door transitions) this route is definitely noticeably faster.

Hero and I are optimizing the jumping part in the shaft after grapplebeam. Time comparison between ours and JXQ's run is not possible at this point, but we have found a big plethora of new room strategies and are gaining time at a steady rate.

Maybe being grabbed and dropped by draygon... that one would be extremely useful.

Here is my channel. I have uploaded some of my TASes of Super Metroid there and WIP's for a unfinished run. (which won't be published here) In the future I might use it for TASes of other games to.

The great TASes this year just keep coming and coming... I hope the rest of 2008 will be as awesome, impossible as it might seem. Amazing improvement, something like 5000 frames more than I thought possible.

Huh, I guess I was to early to leave it. How much is it, one frame, two?

Heh, really awesome save there. That might be the difference between a 100% 00:37 and 00:36 in end.

I think Teri used slowdowns as well in his runs. The quality is not as high as the current standard obviously, but it still looks far better than something done with only savestates.
If his last any% was done completely without frame-advance I'm very impressed, sure it is improvable by a fair amount of frames even if only using what tricks where known at the time but it is about a 1000 times more optimized that anything I could ever produce with mere slowdowns.

As for the conditions to get it to work, like said before, you need to be in a falling state
Yeah I know, as to my knowledge this can only be achieved by running of a ledge, demorphing in mid air or after a shinespark. (and probably some other specific cases which are unusable like after being dropped by draygon)

so thanks to hero to find it.
Not to start another battle about who found what but I figured out and started using this trick before hero had shown it in any of his work. For example in my first any% (v4) WIP posted here I used it in the RB shaft before the PB's. I missed it in the other RB shaft though. I've known it for some time (as others have to) but never found out the exact conditions for it to work until I started to work on my latest any%.

Yeah it can, and is in both our any% runs and our upcoming 100%. It makes for some good saves every here and there.

Another timesaver to consider: if you have to spend one additional frame in the Torizo room because of the door timer, consider spending one less frame in the previous room, when entering the door.
Won't work AFIAK, I did this room twice in the 100% run, I entered it with both a even and a odd number of frames and had to delay the room by a frame in both cases.

Yeah the run was not intended to be fast, only to showcase the sequence break.

I guess I dont really get what it is about this game that makes people automatically exclude the idea of a "fastest time, no rules run". I realize it would be on the bland side, but a total glitch fest can be fun once in a while.
But a glitched out run is being worked on, it's just that the goal of it is to skip all bosses and not to be fastest possible, I guess the authors (moozooh and evilchen) saw it as a better choice. It is almost as fast in the end anyway.

Well you could probably finish the game faster with space/time beam than with current methods (since once you have all beams it's pretty much insta win as you can make the "zebes exploding" sequence play by using it at the right spot) However the X-ray thing should be even faster. Also space/time beam would of course not be allowed for a non severely glitched out run.

Well I'm not totaly sure how it works with the kraid door, you can open it but you need to be really close to it. Shots do disappear ofscreen though, and to quickly to make the spark possible.

Then run in the pre-Ridley room until it becomes possible? The shot doesn't have to be fired immediately when entering that room. You could try running towards the other door and fire+launch the shinespark in the exact frame where it works.
Well I checked and figured you could enter the pre ridley room with ~50 frames left on the timer, in the beginning of the room there is a unavoidable fall (you start without ground under your feet) and no large platforms where you could gain great speed. Thus you can nor make it that far enough into the room, I don't even think you would come very close. Also since you can run through the acid in the room after and make a high speed jump into the next room there is a possibility that it would not be faster even if possible.

Btw, some time could be saved in the Ridley room by charging the shinespark in that room instead of the adjacent room
His platform is to small to charge a shinespark on.

Yes I would also recomend trying out the low%, in a fastest realtime run there is only a couple of seconds to gain unless several new trick (or a major one) is discovered.

And the reason I never tried it is that the room is to long.

I'm not sure there is enough time left on the spark timer to do that, also I think the room after is to long, when rooms are past a certain length you can't shoot the door open and pass through it with a spark because your speed would be to great when the the door starts to open (a.i either to shot goes ofscreen or the door opens to late)

I've heard the secret lies withing casually adding more door transitions.
