Fair enough :) It's probably true my first order of business if I had actual magical powers wouldn't be to line up hot chicks outside my bedroom. In fact, I think there'd be no need to perform any ethically dubious magical acts to get girls interested in me at that point. That's like imagining Superman being unable to pull hot tail, not gonna happen. But sure, actually manipulating someone into wanting to sleep with me would be pretty wrong in that scenario. I'm not totally sure that would matter to me though, unfortunately I'll never have the chance to find out :(

No..? This isn't even close to what happened. The fact that jimsfriend chose a faster option is a lucky coincidence. He didn't throw two shells into that ? box because it was 32 frames faster, he did it because it's cool to have an invisible Yoshi. At no point was this an intentional way of saving time, and when we did the 15 exit run, at no point did we intentionally skip a timesaver. Your tone kinda pisses me off here. "more or less" followed by "couldn't be arsed to do it", wtf.

I think it's a matter of common sense Bisqwit. Sometimes it's warranted, sometimes not. You're dead wrong about how difficult SMW is to work on, I have an entire army of people who have TASed plenty more games than I have to back me up on that. Here is a sick improvement over an already very good run, and we have missed one trick. I understand what you're saying about your rejection meaning "go ahead and improve it again" rather than "I'm choosing the worse run", but in this case it's a lot closer to the second one, since your perception of the work required is pretty off here (it's not a hexedit job like JXQ said and TASing SMW sure is laborsome). Edit: I might add that this means it's EXTREMELY unlikely we'll ever see a SMW/SDW run submitted again, SMW11 excluded. I feel pretty confident I'll be able to find at least 1 frame of known, confirmed improvement in anything else.

This negative feedback, should it be interpreted so that we must not reject movies that fail to realize their potential? What can I reject then? Always when a submission is rejected, there's a chance that the authors (and possibly audience) will become sulky about it. It's exactly this why I'm not doing submission management that much anymore.
I fully acknowledge this made me feel a bit sulky Bisqwit but I also feel like my common sense isn't thrown out the window the second something doesn't go my way. I've been discussing it some with adelikat who kinda agrees with you, so clearly you're not being that unreasonable. My opinion is it's just an absolutely abysmally horrible choice to choose the 23 seconds slower version instead, but according to adelikat it's consistent with the standard judging method.

0% of it being fixed that way PJ. I haven't talked to JXQ, skamastaG or jimsfriend yet but I can't imagine anyone will feel like redoing this.

Ugh Warp I had a somewhat lengthy response written up but somehow I deleted it. no idea how. Anyway short version is it seems you don't understand what a miracle/magical power means, as you bring up plenty of stuff (arguably) applicable to a real life scenario, but not so when talking about a hypothetical magical scenario. Also not interested in having a political debate, clearly we seem to have some pretty differing opinions. Again about the religion, agree to disagree. Obviously it's fine you wouldn't do the same things I would do, ditto for the chicks.

Nice PM you got going there. Pretty sure you misclicked somewhere though because it accidentally ended up in my thread.

Hey Fabs. Um, gosh there's been a ton of questions I had wanted to ask that are already answered. Ok, here's some: I don't know if you read science fiction novels, but which novel do you find most likely that our future in this world will mimic? Would you find cats more useful if they were frozen and used for bowling? If there was one system besides SNES that'd you'd like to TAS with, what would it be? Which newest member that has submitted a recent TAS or is making a WIP do you think has the most potential? Will Nitsuja ever come back? :'-( Would you host/attend a worldwide TAS party, if there would be one? Is 'The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' really then end of black and white film as one critic put it? Do you like Lego my Ego waffles? Have you ever seen a White furry lobster?
I've never read any science fiction novel as far as I can recall. I like some Genesis games so if I made a non-SMW TAS I'd probably go with something on that console. No idea at all about the new member thing. The newest member I can recall watching a TAS from would probably be jimsfriend, who's been here like 18 months? nitsuja will come back. I would stay the hell away from a TAS party. There's a few people with a standing invitation to party at my house though, should they ever visit Sweden. Chose to skip some of the particularly stupid questions.

Might be worth noting there are a few more less significant, non-lag related, improvements. Flying down under the floor earlier in Backdoor Star World when waiting for the pillars to rise after grabbing the key comes to mind. Huge bummer the lava slide ended up 20ish frames slower. That was so awesome. Thanks everyone for watching and commenting.

Dear Fabian: Which political party will you vote for in the next election?
When asked what I voted for in the last election, I answered this: "Anyway I didn't vote, I don't have any strong political convictions and in general I don't think there's much value in voting for one individual. If I voted it would be for vänsterpartiet or miljöpartiet I guess, I dunno. That's based more on ideological reasons than specific stuff they stand for right now, since I have almost no idea what specifically they're trying to push etc." I doubt anything will change for the upcoming election.

Fabian, If you could achieve any miracle, which ones would they be?
If I had magical powers, I would use those powers to make very hot women have sex with me, a lot. I'd also try to change around the distribution of wealth in society, so people in third world countries would no longer starve to death etc, and I'd erase religion from people's minds, as well as making sure people in a position of power (except for myself!) can't be too power hungry -> no wars etc.

Fabian, Oh Wise one, If TASvideos were to form its own country and government, and you were chosen as leader, what positions would you appoint other members to? Feel free to take this in a humorous or serious fashion.
I'd form a council to have some people to discuss everything I'd have to decide/rule on/etc. In the end though, these people would have no actual power, I want to decide for myself. Just want someone's input/feedback first so I don't make crappy decisions. People on this council would be DK, JXQ, moozooh, Zurreco, xebra, adelikat. Then we'd need two people to handle the bureaucratic side of things. Filing papers in the right filing cabinet, keeping track of inter-departmental memo's, putting down council discussions on paper for the records, stuff like that. I'll put Bisqwit and Warp here. I would of course require a personal "assistant" if you know what I mean. Who to choose, who to choose.. I'm going to go with meepers here. We'd need a head of the justice department, a head judge. I think JXQ could handle that job. I think Cardboard would do a good job in charge of law enforcement. He'd have Phil, Saturn and AKA to order around, being police officers will suit these guys well. Cardboard would also have a side job by night, handling the adult movie industry. Outside the gates of the government palace (this is where your leader will live, party and work), I imagine there would be a constant stream of protesters parading around with cool looking signs saying "Fabian sucks lol", "More money to me", "less justice in society!" etc. The leaders of these groups would be Xkeeper, Vatchern and mwl. Not sure if they have a day job too, I'm guessing they don't. Ok I'm getting bored now. Let's just say I'd handle the rest myself!

I don't want to be a moderator but I could definitely help with telling people to stop being idiots, and if they don't, tell you who to ban and why Bisqwit.

non-confrontational behavior
That's me, I guess. In FPS games, I also prefer non-confrontational weapons such as snarks or tripmines rather than traditional guns. It is probably characteristic for intellectual persons, to devise things that do stuff than to do stuff. Edit: I do not mean to imply that anyone is stupid. It was merely self-reflection.
Another theory which I think might fit even better is you don't want to do stuff plenty of people will disagree with later. You'd prefer it if Xkeeper dug a deeper hole for himself before banning (meaning, being even more annoying than usual), because then, the chances people will think it's an unjustified ban will go down by a lot. Kinda ties in nicely with what I said about you earlier about you not wanting to clearly state your intentions and stuff like that, in case you were "wrong". Not necessarily a bad thing, but the thing is, as long as you clearly say "dudes, stop doing X", it's not like anyone can object when they get banned for doing X later on. You're in charge, and as long as you let people know what the rules are, that's kinda the end of that discussion.

You're right that that would be a more straightforward way. In comparison, my way accomplished these: ― Don't need to warn each person individually ― Don't need to warn at all; the person gets the hint without intervention. With the cost of: ― Reasonable use of the abnormal sizes was also disabled. Marginal case, if you ask me.
Before reading this post, I wrote the following. [10:23:34] <Fabian_> what I really think is kinda unnecessary is Bisqwit's sometimes overly non-confrontational behavior [10:23:35] <Fabian_> like [10:23:48] <Fabian_> he needs to change the rules so as to make it appear he's not the bad guy before banning [10:23:52] <Fabian_> instead of just telling the idiots [10:23:55] <Fabian_> hey idiots, stop being idiots [10:24:15] <Fabian_> but yeah as long as it gets done I guess Just different styles I guess. If it were up to me I'd definitely just go ahead and tell whoever it was "hey you're being kinda annoying please cut it out, that stuff is not acceptable". You don't want to be seen as the strict, bad guy, and I think it's very ok for an admin to be that guy when necessary.

Sure it could, as long as it's tool assisted. Meaning you have to always enter a level at the "right" frame. If you want to enter levels manually, it won't cut it.

You could probably construct the level in a way so it's not super super super specific exactly what must happen for it to work out. I mean the differences between entering on different frames aren't huge in most cases (where the boss appears is a good exception, if you require a boss your idea probably won't work, no).

Stuff will behave in different ways depending on when you enter a level, there's no way around that. I guess what you need to do is decide on a frame to enter a level (like the earliest frame possible), and make the level work based on that frame's randomness. If you never vary when you enter a level, it will behave the same every time.

Yeah the pipes (and how fast he shows up, it can vary slightly) are determined by what frame you enter the boss door though I can't answer if it's a universal timer or an in-level timer. My guess is it'll be fine no matter which frame you enter on but don't quote me on it, JXQ is guessing the opposite.

If I understand you correctly Bisqwit, you want one category for what we normally consider a standard TAS, playing through the game as fast as possible (in general, also some 100% runs etc), as well as a different set of runs with non-standard goals. Stuff like princess only SMB2, SMB/SMW walkathon, runs using passwords to access different modes etc (chrono trigger +). Also a third category for hacks, but that's not very relevant here. I think this is a great idea, myself. I've always been a fan of non-traditional runs, and I've felt it's a shame there aren't more of them, because of the opposition to include them. Setting up a separate section dedicated for such runs sounds awesome, I hope it happens. One criticism I have of how the concept demo section has worked out so far is that excellent candidates for runs in that category have been rejected, I think partly because many (including judges) still hold them to the exact same standards as a normal run. Revamping the system and setting up a whole new section for them should help solidify in people's minds it's something else, something different and separate, and I think it will be helpful. On a more personal note, I appreciate that you're responding in a more clear and less avoiding manner than in the past. You know I've criticized you for that (some star debates and talk about concept demos come to mind, I'm sure there have been other things too), and I'd like to think that maybe your Ask Bisqwit thread has something to do with this change. Whatever the reason, I think it's awesome of you.
