I'm not in a Warpesque mood at the moment, so instead of restating everything that's been said I'll just say that I agree with JXQ and point you to his post instead. But to sum up, ranks (or titles) = crap, kinda stupid, and unnecessary. And also, [18:23:03] <Fabian_> so about this forum rank [18:23:13] <Fabian_> let's put everything else aside for a second and just focus on this point: [18:24:01] <Fabian_> with this Expert Player forum title avaliable, people who don't have it will suddenly become hugely motivated to produce multiple excellent TASes, to gain this extremely prestigious word "Expert" under their name, on the discussion forum? [18:24:10] <Fabian_> I don't really see this happening [18:24:29] <Fabian_> what I see happening is the following: no one cares I don't mean this in an obnoxious or condescending kinda way, I just think this is what would happen.

My usual technique is, whenever I advance a couple frames to the next "important" point, I increase the save slot # by 1 and save. If I need to go back, just decrease the save slot #. I go through the 10 states many times during one level, and don't have any sort of structure on which states are what, like you. I use the numpad for frame advance and savestate handling. The , (not sure if it's the same key on american keyboards, this is the key to the right of 0 on my keyboard) is the Pause button (this is for snes9x), 0 is frame advance and 1+2 is change save slot (decrease and increase, respectively). The 5 buttons to the left of my right shift key are, in order, save state, A, Y, B, load state. Also, the L is X, which I don't use that often. I think that's all the buttons I use.

Alex, download the snes9x version JXQ linked to in two places in his submission text. Play the .smv using that emulator version, and turn input display on. The hotkey for this is usually "comma", otherwise look in the options menu somewhere or something. Enjoy.

My best guess (admitedly, I know shit about things like this) is a better media player, or maybe some codecs for the one you're using now. If either of these things exist for macs, I have no idea.

Mlandry, At some point during the 3 pages of "wow this input display is FANTASTIC, I'm laughing so hard right now holy shit hahaha", did you consider hitting the input display button in your emulator? Just curious.
Maybe, just MAYBE I watched the movie before reading the comments. Think before making stupid comments. And no, I will not watch a 1hour movie again to see some inputs.
What's with the hostile attitude dude? It was a simple question. Take a chill pill and remove the sand from your vagina.

One of the best runs ever, for sure. I bet the doubters are feeling like idiots at the moment. I know I would.

Highness, This has been discussed a couple times before. The two main reasons this unfortunately isn't true is 1. the fade-in and fade-out times when switching between Mario and Luigi are HUGE, like a couple seconds each exit (switching ~95 times at ~2 seconds each would mean over 3 minutes lost just from that, and I believe the fade times are more than 2 seconds each time), and 2. the overworld map route wouldn't be much shorter anyway. The majority of map movements used are forced, meaning you're automatically taken from one level to another after finishing the previous level, and having two players around wouldn't speed those movements up in any way. Using 2 players would probably mean you could minimize unforced map movements, but there aren't enough of those to come close to saving 3 minutes, plus whatever extra slowdown you'd have to deal with in-level (more levels would be done without cape, grabbing a second cape for luigi would take extra time, etc). Hope this explanation made sense.

When this sketch was mentioned some time ago, I said it might be the funniest 2 minutes of television ever. This still holds true. hahahaha.

You should all keep in mind that mwl knows more about OoT than anyone, if I recall correctly. I'm sure he doesn't enjoy being the arrogant rude know-it-all he is, it's probably just a necessary evil to produce the best possible end result.

Fabian, have you ever thought about renaming yourself to VirtualFabian?
Tub, Of course not, that name sucks. Edit: In my opinion of course. I'm not passing this off as fact.

DK, No one's been able to solve CBA so far, no. Same goes for VoB4b, where you kinda, in theory, have everything you need (spring, shell and key) for it to work. But I doubt that it's possible, the level layout probably just doesn't allow it. Other people, I too think a small mario TAS is a very cool idea. What I think makes it interesting and fun is how it differs very much from any existing TAS, and how the solutions to many of the levels are just as (or more) difficult and impressive looking than in the regular TAS. If the two runs (regular, small) would look too similar, I don't think a small run would be a great idea. But there's plenty of variety and unseen techniques used, it's a blast to watch. Looking forward to you finishing it guys :)

KRocket, How jimsfriend solves the secret exit in Donut Plains 1 is partly the reason why his run is extremely awesome :) While I'm no expert on console speedruns, I don't know of any single segment speedruns using tricks as difficult as jimsfriend does in that movie.

Yoshi's Island 2,3,4 + Castle Donut Plains 1 secret exit, Donut Secret 1, Donut Ghost House, Donut Plains 2,3 + Castle Vanilla Dome 1 secret exit, Vanilla Secret 1 secret exit Star World 2, 3, 4, Front Door so 15 exits + Front Door

KRocket, The console run by jimsfriend I mentioned earlier is a "short" run. It's not 11 exit since that route to Bowser is impossible as small mario, instead it takes the star road in Vanilla Dome to Star World 2. The TAS by thegreginator and skamastaG finishes all possible exits (with the exception of Switch Palaces, which we felt would make the run less entertaining). Neither of the two runs use Yoshi.

hi scwizard, jimsfriend did a non-assisted (console) run of SMW which from what I've heard is extremely awesome, I haven't seen it yet though. Currently he's doing a 120 exit Super Demo World (hack of SMW) TAS. There is a small mario TAS going though, which aims to complete almost all of the exits (I believe it will do 85 exits or something). It's being made by thegreginator and skamastaG, and I can promise you and everyone else that it will be very awesome too. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask. Edit: In case you're extra interested, there is some discussion about the small run, as well as a small teaser video of Castle #2, buried somewhere in the last 20 (or maybe even more :) ) or so pages of the main Super Mario World thread in this forum.

So, are we gonna see a new submission with the known improvements aiming for SPEED?
Yeah it might be worth clarifying that such a run WOULD be considered, as long as it didn't contain known improvements, according to Bisqwit. If people felt it was a more worthy representation of the game, it would be published. Bisqwit wasn't too clear on that when he edited the rejection note, so I figured I'd tell you DMTM. Good luck.
