To get the discussion started, here's some of my reasoning. I'll be using christianity as an example here, although it applies to all religions: As time has progressed since the time of jesus, people (I mean both every individual and, more importantly, society as a whole) has gradually become more well educated in all areas of life (scientific discoveries, better understanding of pretty much everything, etc). This development has been most significant in the past maybe 200 years, since the industralization. I think it's safe to say that in this period of time mankind has taken some pretty huge steps forward in terms of development. Arguably, 2000 years ago the primary reason for religion was the need to have something (a being, an entity, a force, or whatever) to explain all things which were unexplainable by contemporary science, everything ranging from death to lightning. Since then, religion has been extremely valuable for the people in power to scare people into obedience and keeping them in check. In the past maybe 150 years, the general education and understanding of things have increased, to a point where these reasons for religion does no longer exist to the same extent as they did 2000 years ago. There's no longer a need for an explanation of the unexplainable, and with Joe Everyman's education and understanding of the world now (compared to maybe 1000 years ago), there's no need to believe in something superhuman to explain our existence. The trend of religion becoming less popular is pretty noticeable, and I think it will only continue, at a faster pace as man's general knowledge keeps growing at a faster pace. Discuss.

So I was thinking and realized we haven't had any good thought provoking discussions here in the OT section lately. So: Prediction: In 75 years, the vast majority of organized religion in Europe and North America will have disappeared. Agree? Disagree? Feel free to discuss.

I hate not having NesVideosAgent present in the irc channel. I've missed like fifteen pages of discussion. Anyway to sum up, JXQ is right like he fucking always is. Also, awesome picture.

I don't know anymore, I guess you're right, skamastaG and JXQ. It seems pretty stupid to choose to include fewer of the cool small mario tricks. I do think it seems pretty stupid to arbitrarily skip 4 exits you can complete as well, but yeah, producing entertainment (sup Warp!) is what it's about, and missing out on those tricks would be pretty unfortunate. So I guess put me in the no switch palace camp.

I agree very much with greginator on this. "Our run is 100% which means we have to beat every level that small mario is capable of beating." This pretty much ends the discussion as far as I'm concerned.

So me, JXQ and thegreginator were discussing this damn CI3 gap and how to cross it and both JXQ and me tried out the proposed strategy, and it didn't quite work out despite it being very close bla bla. So after you left JXQ, me and greginator kept discussing it and I tried out various stuff, with nothing working. And just now after greginator just left I came REALLY REALLY close to getting it, using a new strategy. So damn frustrating, maybe you can improve my idea here JXQ or something. Here's an smv Edit: Also, I just tested the lakitu cloud thing to make sure it worked, and it is indeed possible to start hopping at speed=52.

Yeah I'm pretty sure HG is the only one who cares about this. The rest of us seem to not even care.

It keeps desyncing on the first level. Above emulator sync setting in the movie play menu it says SETTINGS NOT IN MOVIE;VERIFY: I don't know what that means but that doesn't appear for any other movie I have watched.
I think it means he uses an old version of the emulator, which does not store the settings used automatically in the smv. Or something like that.

FYI Ozmodiar, if you release Y you'll probably end up with an ugly unnecessary cape spin at some point, which is a pretty compelling reason to keep it pressed. Edit: eh. bleh. obviously only applies when you have a cape. Still though.

Wow because of input display Ozmodiar? That's crazy. FWIW I almost never released Y while hopping in the 96 exit run. I certainly am not beating myself up over this.

I see no reason why this couldn't work. For the MI2 shell jump, you might want to watch it in frame advance with input display enabled to better understand what's going on. What you do is you drop the shell while Mario's speed is slow, increase his speed, catch up to the shell and kick it, then bounce off of it. Easy enough :)

Ok I'll test that out. How much time did it take to get the shell in the item box vs getting the fireflower and changing twice?
It's been almost a year since we did it, so I don't remember. I would guess JXQ doesn't either.

jimsfriend, before you start MI2, when I started that level I did it differently. I'm not sure which is faster since you did the bad shell grab, so you might want to test both. Anyway, what I did was similar to the strategy in the published run, only I ran down the hill (didn't slide) for as long as possible, pressed "down" long enough to kill that guy, then started running again. That way you gain full running speed before the next upwards slope thing.

Link doesn't work. Upload here: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php Edit: It did work. I can't say I thought it was too great. It's just not a concept I think would be fun to watch.

Same thing would happen to it that happened to the shell in the demo.

There has been discussion of similar stuff in the existing Super Mario World topic. To sum up my opinion in a sentence or two, I think this would be boring and pointless. Points 2-5 makes it especially boring and pointless to me. skamastaG has talked about doing a small 100% run (which is like 92 exits or something? Can't remember). I like that idea a bit better.

Test of idea for the pyramid Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work. Even if I did get the P-switch to appear I don't think I could get it out of the ice block it would be trapped in, unfortunately.

One thing by the way: When starting to fly, during the liftoff phase, you can stop holding -> to have a constant speed of 49 during that time, then after a while you can press -> again for 3 frames to get to 51. Saves like a frame I think.

I think JXQ answered your questions so all I can say is this is some awesome stuff and some great ideas. Very good job. Edit: Yeah I don't mind it here, it's mostly the same people anyway and it's good to keep stuff in one place I think.

I don't think you lost any frames on the Dinosaur Land! screen, although you did lose one before that. That's very clever with the slope thing, made it 13 frames faster than me. Very cool. Looking forward to seeing more.
