I know this was a great work, but that constant zipping doesn't appeal to me much, neither the game does.
Why would you watch a movie of a game you don't like? I'm asking because I'm curious.

I actually don't watch movies of games I havn't played, and I guess there's a couple of things in this movie I can't replicate myself, but I pretty much do understand how it works, and that makes it a great TAS for me. And, this is the first Mega Man 1 TAS I've seen, since I don't have the japanese version of the game. To me, it was a really good TAS, but for someone who doesn't understand the game it might not be, but most people knows about most things, or can at least figure out part of what's happening, and I believe that's enough to make it a fun watch. I don't know where I want to get with this post, but I'll submit it anyway.

The person who posted before Kaz's nickname is "slipperypete10583". I guess he reacted to that.

I edited my last post quite a bit, someone who's already read catnap and JXQ's last post might want to see it.

The plasma beam cannot pierce through Mother brain nor Ridley, so it's impossible to deal damage more than once with every shot on other bosses, even though killing Phantoon this way may be the fastest one.

I see. well, jumping off ledges may be faster than running off. I agree. But, for that, I have a new question. How high that jump is confortable? I guess jumping as high as possible is more faster because of increacing fall speed after that. (like megaman2 movie) But this supposition would be wrong because horizontal speed while jumping is slower than LRdash. I don't know which is the best. How do you think?
Holding a for 1 or 2 frames using down at the last moment to just clear a ledge is the fastest way to do it.

Yes. I agree you wholly. SM techniques is being discovered day by day and route also changing. 100%run is very difficult, but very challangable. by the way, If my remember right, you made (or be making) TAS of SM.
Maybe I am. Well, I made a little movie for Metroid Legacy, I don't know if you've seen it though, it might show you something new. :) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/760/ This should be the link, I'm not sure though. :)
catnap222 wrote:
Certainly. too much use of mockball may become rather than slower.
What I meant was that sometimes you didn't use as much space as you had when running up speed for "mockballs".

By the way, why do you think abusing "Shoulder button pump" is better?
I don't, I hate it.

Mine was called Super Metroid (JU).smc, and I can replay the movie just fine. But there should be a "Super Metroid (J)" from a Japanese cartridge, though it might just be the exact same as the american version, just that the cartridges looks a little bit different.

Making a version 2 of this run would probably not be worth the effort if the route isn't drastically changed or more new tricks are discovered, most improvements would come from more accurate playing, more testing and better usage of the "mockball technique". Really, one of the best parts of this movie is the fact that the "Shoulder button pump" isn't used, if a version 2 was to be made, I hope it wont be used in that one either. I guess I should've written that in the last post I wrote. Edit:

You seems to know how to kill Spore Spawn in one round. Im cirious about that. I think it is impossible to shoot 10 missiles into Spore Spawn before closing his shell. Please tell me the way.
I'll show you some time.

Does it mean that there are need of more improvements and that will make it one of the best movie related to Super Metroid, right? Yes, I believe that. And also I know the lack of many newer techniques.
I meant this is the best Super Metroid based/related movie I've ever seen.

ummm, mabye you says the time when Samus fall down from ledges. I don't know the best way.
Jumping off a ledge is always faster, since you're already going down when you reach it.

JXQ is using this trick to run faster in his Super Metroid 100% run. Why wasn't it used in this run?
This video was done in may-june 2005, I believe that around this time Michael Flatley discovered that this was the case. The two currently published movies doesn't use this "trick" either.

The thing I noticed most was the fact that many times the player ran off ledges even though he/she could've jumped, but there was also other irregularities in the movie. Even though I must say I was very impressed by how smooth the author handled many things in the game, things I might never had thought of doing. And really, the boss battles weren't that slow, Kraid was good, Phantoon could've been killed with missiles instead for greater speed and Draygon could've been killed abusing X-ray. (Might be faster, I'm not sure though.) Other than that I see no way to vastly improve boss battles. I've completed this game with a maximum of 27% items, and I don't know where the rest is, so I wouldn't know about the fastest route. Even though this one was very fast. No one has confirmed the fastest route for Super Metroid, and many people have different theories, even I make new changes every now and then to my Super Metroid 100% routes, Super Metroid has existed for 12 years, and it might take another 12 years to figure out the fastest route. I believe using a route which you feel comfortable with and that makes it possible to show off is the best one to use. (And really, it's not like there's tons of new tricks discovered, at least not that can be utilized in this movie.)

Wow, a little more accuracy/precision a using newer techniques and stuff and maybe a little more planning and a movie like this will be the best thing ever. I enjoyed this movie alot, and even if it's not of the original Super Metroid, I believe it might be the best Super Metroid based movie I've seen so far. And by the way, I believe getting 10 missiles before Spore Spawn to kill it in one round is the fastest way of killing it, so I wouldn't really call a 2-round "Spore Spawn quickest kill"

JXQ: You cannot gain any momentum or build up speed booster while running through lava, but it's still faster to have the Gravity suit. The other people who likes to act like they know anything: (I'm not to be taken seriously.) And you can't shoot a shot through a door, you're beginning to charge a shot when entering the door, and it's released while you enter the next room, it's just as fast as shooting at the first frame.

If going there both times waste just as much time, I'd recommend going there lastly, if you can screw attack the bomb blocks, that'll help, and if you can't, you'll still have Power bombs on the second visit.

It's really a very good game, I didn't like the looks of it the first time I saw it either, but once I tried it, I played it over and over again, you really should give it a chance, fast forward the first world, and watch the second or third. After you've completed the game yourself. (Which might be hard to find time for, I don't know you, so I don't know how much free time you have or how you like to use it.)

Good to see you working on this. :) Question: in the space station, corridor with stairs on both sides, you jump up the stairs when you go right, but just run up them when you go left. What is the reason for this inconsistency?
Most certainly because of that it doesn't matter at all. It's probably just as fast.

If you watch the movie I posted 10 pages back or something like that, I believe I started shoulder pumping the frame I started running in the room where the first super missiles are collected, and I also "mockball" in the room before you pick up the spazer. I havn't watched that movie ever, and I havn't compared anything, so I really wouldn't know.

I see you didn't hex-edit you know what, did it desync, or is there any other reason? And also, is it not faster to use "mockball" in the room before Spazer? It's also very fun to watch the first parts of this movie. :P

Big thanks go out to Graveworm, who has helped me learn this game very well.
I can't really take any credit for that though, I don't feel like I've done anything for you, so you might as well skip that part. Edit: Using a "mockball" while waiting for the bomb to blast when bombing the first wall wouldn't have been faster? Did the monsters in the room after that generate lag? Why didn't you use shoulder button pump from the beginning in the room where you get the first super missiles, is it not faster?

I tried, with super shitty quality and no sound still was 50 mb.
That's probably because of bad compression and stuff, you really shouldn't try doing that if you don't know anything about it, and that's why I never do that.

You only need to backtrack once (Tunnel Rhino's) to get all items. However, there's the minute-long ship-and-block scene in Blast Hornet's (if Gravity Beetle is not defeated) and there's one item near the beginning of Beetle's stage which requires Blast Hornet to be defeated. Makes backtracking look good (I almost never say that).
That's what I meant, but I guess you knew that.

Didn't I do something like that?

I'm really sorry, but this is the best I can provide right now, I've been doing a bit testing, but I never make backups, but at least it should give you an idea, hopefully. One reason my old movie was slow was because I didn't spawn the ship at the first possible frame. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/861/

I don't know if you care, but I have a movie that handles this ~10-15 frames faster, care to see it? Or are you satisfied with what you've got?
