Sorry for doubleposting, but I just want somebody too see this. Somehow when I play my latest video, the emulator plays another video of the same game, the version before the one I was working on right now, but in the play movie window it shows the right rerecord count and movie length of the one that it should play. Has anyone encountered this problem, and if so how do I fix it? It's only half of the intro stage, so I don't have a backup of the video, but I don't wanna redo it anyway. :/

Try using frame advance, and if it bores you, don't sit too long, work on it 30 mins a day or make 30 mins sessions and then do something else for a while, or your movie may not be accepted or obliterated very soon. I'm sorry, but I havn't played this game for ages, and never on an emulator so I don't know anything about desynchs and I can't help you with the game. :/

The very long vertical shaft is called something like "Tourian escape shaft" since it's where you escaped in metroid 1. :) I can't wait to see this.

Oh, the latest one is Fractal Fusion's, it's just that he stole all the tricks I used. :P (Just kidding.) If you didn't notice. (Everyone makes mistakes.) Edit: I don't know what I was thinking, I'm ill at the time being, and deleted the rest of the message.

I've started version 3 of the run up to Wire Sponge's gate. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/290/MegamnX2.smv I saved 3 frames from Graveworm's intro stage run and 398 frames from my previous run. The weather was hard to manipulate. If there are any mistakes in the run, feel free to point out. I am willing to start over this time.
Sorry, but I've redone the intro stage and I'm even faster than that, I believe I'm getting close to perfection now. Oh, and charging your weapon lags the game for a frame, so you'd better delete the first one on the intro stage and on the Wire sponge stage, since you don't need to shoot any of them. Hehe, and it looked just like my last version of Wire Sponge, except for the item pickups, I was like "When did I do this?" when I watched it. Very good indeed, I'll upload the latest intro stage when I'm at my computer.

I don't think the number of re-records is that important to minimize/maximize or that it means much to have higher/lower. Well, it seems to be a measure of how much experimentation you did, but it's not very accurate, so a low re-record count could mean that you didn't experiment much because of already having a good idea of what to do optimally and/or or spending more time on each individual movement between re-records, or it could mean that you did experiment a lot but you just didn't do it during the recording. Sometimes when making a movie I'll keep savestates around of things and use re-records just to look at them then go back to where I was, or I'll load a savestate 4 times in a row just to make really sure that I really loaded it - it doesn't mean it would have been that much of a difference in effort if the re-record number ended up much different.
Long quote, short answer. The thing was that he used the amount of rerecords to tell us how hard it was, when if you know what you're doing it might not be that hard to do at all, even though you'd have to use rerecordings even if you knew everything about the game. Well, that made no sense, like always. No, I'm not working on a TAS for this game right now, since I'm currently having to restart the Megaman X2 video for the 100th time since I need to change a couple of things on the intro stage. :(

Alright JXQ, I think its a better choice to avoid make it look the same. Just a note: I spended more than 5500 rerecords on this damn station alone and hope the effort was worth it.
Hehe, I beat the station about as fast as you did (a little slower though) with 300 re-records, if I find the movie file I'll upload it for you to see. I actually entered the boss room on the same frame as you did (6 frames faster than Flatley (spelling?)), but I only got 48:8x something on the end time, the thing Flatley missed was that he did the damage boost in the second last jump too early, which I believe you fixed since your time was even faster than mine, but if I get the time I might do a video of the whole game too, it'll be like a competition. (Starting over from the beginning then)

Wouldn't it be better to use the japanese rom for better control of Ark, or wouldn't that be needed?

That was also the first thought that crossed my mind when I read it.

Here are some fast boss battles I came up with in recent runs. http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=7104192 Click "Download", then "Download the file now" once. I recommend that you watch the Crush Crawfish battle last.
About the Volt catfish fight, doesn't the Ray splasher damage it at all, or why did you do it like that, and without any enhancements? And I believe this technique could be used to favor against Blizzard Buffalo, especially using the AI glitch, might be possible that it's better not too use the AI glitch, but I'm not gonna try that right now. And using the same technique against the Gravity beetle as against the Blast Hornet would result in a very quick boss battle (Charge up/Ray splasher) since the boss flashes for 120 frames when damaged by the Ray splasher. Also the Tunnel Rhino should be possible to kill off pretty fast with the charged/uncharged x-buster variation, since it moves between the walls in a very fast manner. And also against the Neon tiger, since it's usually sitting near/at a wall. Oh, and also, while watching nituja's new video I noticed some big frame loss in several places, for example when gaining control of Zero for the first time, he's 5 frames (I believe) slower to move than in the 39:51 video. Although I can't get to move at the exact same frame as in the 39:51 in my new movie for some reason, I'll have to get into that later.

That'd happen with any game you'd try to emulate, try to change the strafe buttons from the arrow keys, and I think it wont act like that anymore, I believe it's because of the computer/keyboard. Someone who knows would have to explain it to you. Oh, and to me too please.

Haha. Well, my nick's a melodic black/gothic metal band that I do like very much. I don't use this all the time, but I don't play very much online computer games and when I play games like Final Fantasy I always keep the original names. I'm not that much of a computer game guy, I just hang around at the Swedish discussion forums of Fragzone and here at Nesvideos, so I guess that if I'm ever gonna start playing an online game I'll come up with a nickname then. :)

Seriously, why not make a topic about this game in the NES forum instead? I'm confused.

Wow, just learn the game and blaze through it on your own skills, but really, when I wanna do something just as the other person does it, I just open another emulator and the other movie, and advance 1 frame at a time on both emu's.

When I tried this technique I wasn't sure I'd be able to have shots going through the air the 30 frames that it required to be faster than only using 3 charge ups (Highest level without arm cannon upgrade), but I was completely thrilled about the result, it's really cool though. I managed to save two frames in the wall climb of the intro stage yesterday, I might be able to shave off another one or two in other parts of the second half of the stage, and on the first uncharged shot I shoot I might be able to improve it by one to three frames and the second one by 1-2 frames, though now that I watch it, I'm really not very sure anymore, but I'll look into it.

I mean, Squirtle's got attacks that deal extra damage for 6 of 8 gyms or something like that, and no other pokémon fast enough to get is as versatile.

Cool, but really, I just got into MMX2 again, check out my intro stage in the other thread if you wanna. I think I'll end this MMX3 to see how much faster it is than the one I've already done, and then I'll try to beat that time. If anyone wants me too, then I'll submit it, if not I'll just share it with my friends. Oh, and if there's anything in my video that's faster than in yours, just copy it, I believe I do that some times, or I just try to reach the same point in the same amount of frames, altering the jumps/shots a bit. :) For example, I copied your fight against the Neon tiger stage miniboss, but I actually altered it a little, though I believe mine was a little slower, I might have take a look into that. And about my video not being interesting, if you read the feedback I got a little earlier in this same thread, you'll notice it doesn't seem like there's any interest at all in a demo with all pickups, since you can pick up the beam sabre even without all items. (May I remind everyone that reads this that the all pickup bonus (Hadouken and Shuruyken (spelling?) in the other X games) is the Golden armor that contains all the chip upgrades.)

I'm gonna improve the boss fight and the climb up the long wall, and I think I'm 1 frame too high when going over the last ledge before the fall to the boss. Well see how that goes. The boss fight strategy was just a test, I don't know if there's a faster way, 'cause I just got the idea like a couple of hours ago and I had to try it.

Here you go: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/243/MegamanX2.smv Now tell me what I did wrong so I can correct it and move on to the Wire sponge stage. (I'll fix the first small shot at the boss later, so don't bother with that.) No, I did not use 16k rerecords, and I havn't played this game in a while, so I decided to continue today.

Some attacks have a higher chance of missing, it's just that they have atleast 1/256 chance of missing.

Like I wrote somewhere I don't know anything about this game, I've had it for like 8-9 years but I've only played it casually before, but mmx2 I've completed in like 40 minutes console played. I don't plan to submit any mmx3 video I do, since there doesn't seem to be enough interest, and because I don't know how to do things as fast as possible. I think I'm about 15 frames faster than you are in your video after I'm at the door in the intro stage, but I believe it's possible to do it much faster, I don't know what time you have in your new video, but I guess I'll see.

It's he.
Thanks. I don't know how far you've come in your new creation, but remember Blast Hornet is faster with the buster cannon and that you save about a second by initiating the Gravity beetle with a charged buster shot.
