Grand theft auto iii and midnight club 2 have open source “ports” in development: https://github.com/rwengine/openrw That’s for gta iii, which seems to be functional at the moment. Midnight club 2 still has a long ways.

I'm still having problems running 3d games on my virtual machine with ubuntu 18.04 My computer supports vulkan and is a i5 core processor, but I don't understand why the virtual machine won't run 3d games like grand theft audio 3 Exact steps to reproduce, install fresh ubuntu 18.04, run updates, run guest additions, restart machine, turn off machine, enable 3d acceleration under display, start up machine, get gta3 from itch.io, run it under windowed mode to see if it works, and it doesn't.. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

I agree with this as well. Especially with Steam games, you should buy them. What’s more, sometimes so called drm-free pc games can contain viruses or malicious activity like stealing personal information. Now if there’s absolutely no other way of getting it besides some rare lucky find on eBay or amazon, then pirating it should be allowed. Libtas is getting steam hooks so a drm version can be played.

It might just be my virtual machines graphics card, something flashes and goes right away in a frame when opening without. I’ll do some updates and see. Thanks for testing though! Note: Windows version works f

I found that in the exact same area with grand theft audio iii, but now the game insist on preloading the library. Which is what was said in the command-line. Is there any way to bypass the ldpreload on that ONE library? Because libtas uses ldpreload to inject code otherwise.

Interesting. I’ve saw on an old todo list that you were going to resolve multithreaded games with a correspondence table? That’s clever. That todo list should help with motivation though. Better yet a schedule for it.

[Edit] I got it to work by enabling permissions to run as executable. And no, it doesn’t work because of the graphical user interface that pops up before the game begins. I'm having trouble running unity on ubuntu 18.04. I looked up a page on how to do it https://blogs.unity3d.com/2015/08/26/unity-comes-to-linux-experimental-build-now-available/ and it says its missing some shared libraries when I try to open the editor.. I found a game on itch.io called "grand theft audio 3" and wanted to test it. I would imagine it would work. I also downloaded latest build on there. No installation issue, just whenever I run it, it gives me shared libraries missing.

*Bump* That actually was tas tools for recording input and playback, but no save states yet. I believe slow motion was added iirc. Recently initial scripting support was added with tas tools in mind for the near future.. although the same thing was said about psp emulator years ago and it never happened.. As well as pcem being ported to bizhawk despite no work being done. I don’t get it. Although save states for never consoles are complicated and much bigger which concerns desyncs bound to happen. As well as the necessity for at least a terabyte hard drive.

How do I compile latest dev build? And how would I test wine with it? I would like to send bug reports and add to capability list. Thanks in advance!

Well, you got me there. So, I guess we can just make it acceptable now then :) A handful of games work now and it’s far more stable than hourglass. And we still accept hourglass submissions. We can probably even convert some of those hourglass submissions to libtas!

Wait for Libtas next stable release. I just said before 2019 because it should be accepted by some point before aforementioned year.

In my opinion, I think it would be best to wait until next stable release. Many things are being rewritten, and many things have been added according to the github page. Needless to say, it should be ready before 2019.

With so many features wanted for bizhawk, it could seem overwhelming on where to begin and thus turn down motivation. The solution? Schedule time for everyday for x feature and set a start time and end time. And do it even if you don’t feel like it. It’ll be on your todos with a specific time to help stay consistent. Just a tip. I don’t do it because I’m worried about my electric bill. And am saving for laptop to solve that.

Off the top of my head: Jesse skip: run up to the guards and straight out and back in Aeris skip: after sleeping the night at her place, and you leave to the midgar outskirts, you can skip the trigger with her catching you in front of that entrance if that makes sense. Picture skip in kalm, forgot how this is executed, but you can look it up. Stinger skip, get a random battle at the same step you touch the web. Should be easy in tas. Weapon cutscene skip, again, forgot how this is done. You do it when controlling barret in that junon scene. It’s on xerokynos channel. Midgar skip: after beating diamond weapon, when the cutscene goes to reeve on the phone, hold down+right+run and you will reach hojo

I get the feeling that tas tools going into upstream MAME is too good to be true.. I mean, being able to tas Windows xp would open a ton of possibilities.. Has any work been done for upstream MAME tas?

how would we implement those?
Depends on what you plan to implement.
Cool, a nice big team project. Making controller layouts shouldn’t be that hard at all. Where would I start?
