I looked on gamefaqs with this game, it said the difficulty is unforgiving, 38 hours of gameplay(probably takes that long for casual players), and only 6 people have competed it. There are no completed runs on youtube so far. Only the first mission. So just seeing this run recorded as a deathless run would be amazing. I have to agree this game is pretty hard. You're timed for almost everything, hitting into cars from behind or front is almost an instant reset if timed. I did run out of ammo in the run at some point, so in the optimized run, make every hit count. Do the enemies take one hit? Ideally, 2 should killed in fewest amount of ammo. If you're out of ammo, the run is over.

Here's my progress so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1PcM9nZg70 I don't think mission 6 is done with. What happens is the last part of the mission(I guess), the map screen pulls. With no indication on what to do. All I see are 2 red dots. Which are enemies, but they're across the sea.. Do I have to swim all the way there? That sounds really slow.. On the other hand, once I'm in the water, a big red dot appears on the map. Could that be some helicopter? God I hope so. Another thing weird about this mission(or part I guess), is that the game saves unpredictably. Whats more, during that wrecking part in mission 5, bizhawk 1.11 crashes at some ledge near the water at times. You can fall in there, but it doesn't crash there. It just crashes randomly.. I was gonna end the run there, but I fixed it somehow. Current rerecord count: 539 in total. This number should be lower in the final product as some of those rerecords were done when "figuring out where to go" sorta thing. About that 6th mission, you don't have to kill anyone on the yacht. You just have to set bombs. Now that ^ will make things confusing on what to do. I guess just kill people if nothing else shows up? Did I have to kill all those people on the island? Or just pick up those bombs? If even there before killing the people?

Again, I will just fix the mistakes in the optimized product. This will just be a testrun of the entire game. Then a redone from the very beginning. Thus seeing a dramatic difference.

I can. Here's WIP 2 Link to video I took damage once, but thats it. Here's WIP1 movie file https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqdc13hj57b8r28/Driv3r%20%28USA%29.bk2?dl=0 Here's WIP2 movie file https://www.dropbox.com/s/xi9uj4c3m79u1k3/Driv3r%20%28USA%29part2.bk2?dl=0 About that second mission at the start, I think it would be slower if I took a car. Its not that far of a walk, and getting a car is not easy, not to mention a full stop is needed to exit. Is there any faster way of skipping text? I think the start button progresses to the next screen more quickly than just waiting. All all in all. I will just finish this testrun then work on the optimized product once its finished. There's no videos on youtube of a full playthrough of this game anyways. Just the first mission and general reviews. EDIT: Here's WIP 3 Link to video That ^ was hardcore. The shooting segment became easier once I found out about autofire. This made things a breeze. The chase was more intense than the last one. The car moves fast, so its hard to optimize this part without taking damage. But I succeeded with doing that despite being harder. This is getting interesting

The stutter moving creates lag? This is news to me. About that shooting part, the strafing is easy, but not when your controls are on a keyboard. It felt so weird trying to get that right. My 'E' key is the R button, my 'F' key is the frame advance button, my 'Z' key is the B button. I have to press all four of those buttons to fire the gun(as well as the arrow on the other side of my keyboard) I used bizhawk when making that btw. I should buy a PC controller one of these days to make tasing more easier.

The ps2 version can't quite be tased yet. So the gba version shall work. I made a testrun of the first mission: Link to video That's from power on. So far its 2 minutes and 28 seconds(from power on) About 1 minute and 20 seconds at the start of the mission. Embarrassing start :( On the other hand, I take no damage. I also never played this game before, so embarrassing mistakes may occur. That shooting at the end was pretty bad I think.. Did I even have to kill those people to progress? Or just pick up those 2 items?

The crit at the end can be manipulated yes, but getting a successful d.blow while avoiding the crit as well would mean for me to heal for some frames to manipulate it. Using inputs to nudge the rng works as well, but I would have to look at the movie to that point, and fix up that input. As it turns out, the mod also makes the bosses more harder. That demon just has more hp and seems to have less attack. Unless my characters have more defense.

About duplicate items, oh yes I forgot about W-Item material. I played this game too long ago, forgot something... luck manipulation for critical hits is good, but I think luck manipulation for dodge is better. You'll not need spent time for cure to teammates anymore
I see what you mean now. What I can do is inflict fury on demons gate. You can't throw a hyper directly at demons gate, but you can use the confusion status to inflict it. I'll do some testing right now. Seriously, that powersoul ruined the speedrun. I just don't like how it makes knowing boss AI useless. Like, I don't have to worry about that no more. Its like playing a fighting game where you beat the guy before he can even make up his mind. Just too cheap I think. The only thing you're more worried about is deathblow connecting. About the "entertaining" demons gate strat, I will have demons gate open the battle with waving his arms, and make sure the next turn will hit everyone. To break the confusion status. Then just manipulate misses throughout the fight.

at 4:14 I see you have missed attack much time you have spent for make cure to teammate. Did you try change or dodge enemy attack? And I think your battle stragy didn't have best speed. Much frames spent to limit animations. I have a idea, you can try and compare speed. Make item dupe glitch for best damage item (example molotov), then just throw it to boss. But you must sure can dodge all boss attack or boss only attack to Aeris for she get limit break
About that miss, I forgot to savestate before that command.. Under fury status, I'm likely to miss. I'm really surprised I didn't miss all that much.. I never shaved any frames on that D.blow command. I just got really good rng most of the time. But should have save stated there to avoid that miss. I can't duplicate items at demons gate. That's not until the end of disc 2. Manipulating enemy misses would just cost me more time manipulating it rather than being attacked. Not to mention the limit breaks I get save time too. Double turns that is. The battle speed is all the way down not only to make barrier last longer, but also to get multiple turns between the enemy. Its the way the atb bars move. As far as luck manipulation goes, it would be much faster if those limit breaks went critical. The ligecko sent me a lua script to find those for me, but I guess being in fury status creates bad rng for that all around. Or doesn't count towards limit breaks.

In case anyone is interested, here's a tas demons gate battle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58IOFxP594s I did add some restriction here: no powersoul and no slots. That's the fastest strategy I can come up with.

In case anyone is interested, I found the speedrun guide right before 3.0 came out: http://www.supercheats.com/pc/walkthroughs/finalfantasyvii-walkthrough01.txt That ^ used to be on gamefaqs, but has updated to v3.3 They're all glitchfree, as garland likes it that way. Idk why, but I find outdated strategies intriguing :p Idk, just sometimes the new strats take away some other things about the game. Like worrying about how enemies fight. In the new strategies, you don't need to worry about that anymore. Which is a downside I think.. If anyone is planning on doing a tas with those strats, all I ask is that you do manipulate luck. The demons gate battle should be done without barrier as well. It is possible without barrier with those strats, as he has done it, but too complicated to write a strategy for.. I can already imagine the luck required. I even have the 1.0 speedrun guide by garland. He didn't know about magic hammer. And schizo was a very hard battle without it. Jenova death in that version really sucked badly.. I also know the strategy used as J-death RIGHT before the powersoul discussion happened. The strategies RIGHT before the powersoul was found were the "wargong tactics". I only know the ones for jenova death, but not for schizo. I can figure it out though on my own. They managed to beat schizo in less than 3 minutes without the powersoul. There was a video on it, but its gone..

Its not *completely* different. Its the same series, and same gameplay. The only major differences are the focus and the story and overall complexity. Aside from those 4 things, not much. I think we all pretty much care about the action rather than going around looking for items to kill the next boss. Using a fast route. Get a grip guys..

Having desync problems? Why not use the ds version of this game? Its the same game, just scaled-down. Has anyone even thought of that idea yet?

Damn, 2 tases in a row and they both desyned.. The strange thing here, is that they desynced after I edited the movie(added more things to it). Like the first time I played back, it played just fine. But the second time, it went to shit.. This happened to me with bizhawk when I was tasing that hard star wars episode 1 racer n64, and then it happened to me when tasing ff7 on pcsx-rr(this emulator never gave me any desync troubles even when I fast forward the movie). Strange huh guys? Its as if it edited previous frames from way back..

I would love to see a tas of this game. Even if it was just the original bootleg. Its been said that's one of the best bootlegs you can get. Very resembling to the original and it has color to it. If anyone is interested in ffvii nes bootleg, I'm all for that too. Just avoid the multi target attacks and just hope for misses. Then we can see the lowest level possible to beat that game. Use the shitty original version too!

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm4694404 That guy is using a unique route for his tas. I don't know why he's level grinding, I can't even read the text, but still that grinding looks unnecessary. Perhaps an agility boost? Still, the boss fights look unpredictable(like not too repetitive if you know what I mean). The way he handles the enemies looks interesting too. During the beginning, he accepted a miss. You only lose like 3 seconds or so doing that, but misses are not allowed with tas. At least with me. All the other final fantasy iii speedrun use the boring any% category or some insane glitch abuse. But that one doesn't go to that extreme. Seems like more grinding occured during that labyrinth at the end to fight off dragons. There's also a Testrun of FF2 using that firebook, warp route that someone did. I don't know what his end game time was, but that's really all it was. Really annoying.. It would be nice to see it done in English, but I don't think that's gonna make all that much of a difference..

I got an idea, SUBMIT this! I highly doubt there's any faster options for Ansem. Riku mode doesn't have much to offer. No stronger weapon, just levelup's, no shopping, no card routing, not a whole lot of variety. If there's anything that can be improved, it would just be unnoticeable and not very different from the rest. I suspect this to go under vault. If I was a judge, I would do that. But yeah, not many options bro.

It wouldn't be fast to get darkside? I don't think there's many other options. I don't know. I guess try to card break a little bit more until you get darkside.

Wait, you edited the movie file at that frame in which you screwed up, and it didn't screw up the rest? Very nice! I wish it was always that easy..

As for lexaues(sorry if that's spelled wrong), maybe you should use sleights. Just to avoid card breaks. Card breaks shouldn't be happening with tas. Riku is real fast, so there shouldn't be any issue with card breaks.
