What about then a "send a message to the author" option? this could be turned on or off by the author (allow or not allow), and it would send a message to the private message box on the forum.
I really like this idea. It would be very interesting to get feedback, suggestions and general comments about the runs from casual viewers and not just, as FODA put it, TAS enthusiasts.

There are 35 yes votes, and 5 no votes to the question "Did you like watching this movie?" (at this point). I think that should be considered when you say the movie is not worth publishing. Saying it shouldn't be published ignores that over 85% of the people liked watching the movie.
I don't base my opinion on whether something should be published on its popularity, the only thing I think about is whether I think it's good enough to be published. Here's a totally unrelated question: if (when) this gets published, do you think that the site should accept (quality) quadruns in general? Or is this a special case?

Saying it's not worth publishing is something I don't quite understand.
The purpose of the site is to produce entertaining movies, not showcase experimental concepts that are not entertaining. I can see why people think that not entertaining = not worth publishing.

Yeah, everything's looking great, you're really putting my run to shame. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the run!

Wow, I saw a friend of mine among the singers. The song itself was mildly amusing, they had some good points.

How is this done, exactly? I'm interested in improving this part but I can't get over the spikes, the bee gets tired too early. You also can't get damaged and land on the spikes and continue, because the spikes kill you even if you are flashing. I haven't been testing this in frame advance but I can't get even close in real time. EDIT: Nevermind, I managed to do it. I guess I'll try my hand at hex-editing now.

Okay, as you guys know, I had negative feelings about this run even before I saw any of it, but I promised to watch it and give it an unbiased vote. So now, after I've watched it, I'll vote no. I did not find this entertaining in the least. The biggest reason is that it's in no way visible that the 4 games are using the same input. The best moments in the movie were the short and rare moments when I happened to be watching 2 games where the movements actually did correlate for a second or two. Other than those moments, I felt like I could've gotten more entertainment from just watching the published runs of the 4 games at the same time. Just knowing that the 4 movies use the same input doesn't add to the entertainment for me. As you say about Mega Man and Mega Man 2 in your submission text:
Watching them at the same time would be pointless, because the movements don't correlate. You might as well watch them separately, and then you would just be watching two runs that are less optimal as they could have been.
This is exactly what I feel about this run. It's like 4 suboptimal runs being played at the same time. Then there's the sound. Mega Man games have beautiful music and sound effects, but they were all destroyed here. I have never enjoyed silence as much as after watching your movie. Of course, you could say that even if it is a horrible watch, it should still be published because it's such an awesome concept. I don't know about that, I just know that this movie did not give absolutely anything to me, hence the no-vote. Oh, and by the way, comments like this just make me sick:

Just publish this baby. No one in their right mind is going to give this a no vote. =P
No one can have a different opinion than you? Do you realize that some people might be afraid to cast (or at least explain) their vote because they are afraid of being bashed by people like you?

Why should the time matter? It's just a number, it doesn't mean that your run is of worse quality than inichi's. As for ignorant people, who cares? The difference can be explained in the description on the site for those who are interested, anyway. I strongly urge you not to change to the J version, it would destroy such a large part of the entertainment, at least for me.

I wonder if you could have saved time by skipping the arrow upgrades altogether.
Nope. Getting only 1 upgrade is over 450 frames slower than getting 2 upgrades, getting none would waste much more.

Yeah, that's awesome Tompa! I saw you describe that on IRC but didn't have time to respond but it sure is a great trick.

Other than some lag in the first level that could have been avoided by killing more enemies
As I say in the submission text, the lag really couldn't be avoided. I assume you're talking about the second level, where all the enemies in the screen come from above and I have had no chance to kill them at this point. I kill the enemies the first chance I get.

I bet for many (most) people the entertainment comes first from seeing a familiar game owned to the ground, not from the general quality of the run. You can't seriously claim that if you came to the site for the first time now you would first choose to watch a 2-hour run of a hack you've never heard of (which is the case for most people) instead of something like SMB3 or Metroid, a game you've played the crap out of as a kid. The stars are there to get newcomers' attention and make them interested in the movies, which, in my opinion, is best done by directing to familiar games so they see right away how amazing the runs really are. As for Xkeeper's reply.. I won't even bother.

It's perfectly understandable that hacks don't get stars. If you told your friend about this site, would you really first introduce him to a movie of a game that was never actually published and that your friend has never heard about instead of Super Metroid, SMB3, Sonic, Mega Man, Castlevania or Zelda? Even if hacks could get stars, the length of this movie makes it an impossible candidate. What I want to know is why the front page only calls the starred movies 'recommended' and not 'recommended for first time users' like it used to? Has something changed in the policy?

I noticed samurai goroh did an attempt on a TAS on the SNES version of this game
As I understand it, he's still working on it. I don't know what Bisqwit's position on the matter is, but personally I don't know if it's a good idea to have two FF5 runs on the site. If you'd have to choose one, I'd say it should be the original and not the remake. Right now I don't care about the console though, I just want to see a complete run.

So.. I completed a new version. Because the situation has changed due to the new trick and the strength upgrades aren't so essential anymore, I calculated precisely how many frames I would gain and lose from collecting strength upgrades. I came to a conclusion that collecting only the first upgrade would be the best choice. So there I was, TASing away, when at the last boss I realize that the strength upgrades affect the last boss just like everything else. I had always just assumed that the weapon Pit uses in the last level isn't affected by the upgrades. So now that I know that the last boss should be taken into account as well, I know it would be faster to collect the second strength upgrade. Right now I'm thinking about whether I should submit the run I made and not give a crap about the lost time, or just suck it up and make a new run. I'm not entirely sure how much time getting the second upgrade would save, but it's not more than a couple of seconds. I'm really not looking forward to doing all the boss battles and luck manipulation over again, especially since some things just clicked so well in this movie. I'm still thinking, I'll probably make a decision after a few days. Just keeping you posted.

You mean first flying up to the block and then wall-jumping when you reach the tile boundary? I don't think it's possible with that small an amount of speed. Plus when you jump with Raccoon Mario in P-speed, he'll just start flying again slowly. I haven't tested anything, it just seems impossible to me in my mind.

No, really, WHY is he slower? I don't know much about SMB3 physics. I don't understand why he's slower at all...
He just is. Especially when you jump with a full P-meter, Mario starts flying, which is way way slower than jumping. As nitsuja said, even regular jumps are slower. Raccoon Mario is intended to be kind of bigger and clumsier than any other form I guess. And yeah, the P-meter simply resets after a while so you can't just run continuously.

What? Did you test this yourself? Isn't using Raccoon Mario a hell of a lot slower than just using Super Mario?

I've played through it once or twice. IIRC there are 100 levels in the game, the last one being a boss. I'm not entirely sure about that, though.

Doesn't work in Kid Icarus, if that's what you're implying.

I'm pretty sure you have to have P-speed. At least every time I've seen it done (by Genisto, JXQ for example), they have delibaretly gotten up to P-speed before going through.

I tried it out and I can't even get myself up to P-speed, but that just might be because I don't really know the physics inside out and wasn't trying too hard. Still, even if it is possible to reach P-speed at that point, I'm pretty convinced it'd be slower than just going up the steps and going through the top block.
