I can't understand why people want to use the J versions. Could we (Bisqwit) PLEASE make a rule out of this? Using a language I don't understand completely ruins the run for me.

I could bet you 100 euros that if I interviewed say 200 people on the streets of Finland, NO ONE would say that a triangle has 4 sides or that France is its own continent. Not even by accident.

Everyone seen this? It's an Australian reporter who's testing American citizens on their knowledge of the world. Incredibly funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oTRmOBSLSU

Maybe the rank should just say for example "Player, 6 movie published". Of course the system would have to be automatic, it would be too much work to update the ranks manually.
There already is a separate page of sorts that already features this, namely the players page.
This is completely unrelated to this thread. The point I was trying to make is that I think ranks should not be something people strive for. In my opinion they should be informative and help new users see who has done what on the site.

So are we supposed to believe that this is a complete coincidence? ;)

Oh, right, my bad. I'll rephrase: I don't know the game but somehow I don't think "skateboarding game" and "a perfect candidate for a run" should be in the same sentence.

I can tell you now that I will instantly vote NO for a movie that breaks the aforementioned rule. Just giving you the heads up.

The rules state that you should always use the ROM that was used to make the previous published movie, unless there is some significant change for the better. Do not use the Japanese ROM, it will only complicate things.

Incredible run, great work! Some rooms were just crazy with your new strategies. This has got to be the best run ever.

At any rate the song should be fast, definitely nothing like Nothing Else Matters or Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony. I agree that Dragonforce might be a good candidate, although in some of their songs the guitar stuff is so over the top it's not even cool anymore.

Well, that info could then be mentioned in the subtitles, right?
Why use subtitles when you don't have to? What really is so especially good about using the Japanese version anyway? As I stated before, a lower final time is not a good excuse to use the Japanese version.

It's a video. I want to watch it, not read about it. Seriously, it completely ruins the mood when you're not able to see what's going on. I don't know the game well enough to know every single attack animation/piece of equipment/item by heart. It's like watching a movie with subtitles, it's just so much more comfortable and makes watching the movie a lot more pleasant.

I feel that if you want to read the text or know the plot, you can play the game yourself.
For the gazillionth time, it's not because of the plot that I want people to use the English version, it's because of the commands used in battle etc. I don't want to be left wondering what the hell just happened. EDIT: I also don't get how lowering your completion time by just using a different version is impressive or in any way cool. If anything it takes away from the impressiveness of the final time because people who have only played the English version (which is most of the people who are going to watch the run) don't know how much time is cut because of the version change and how much from good strategy.

I meant a new copy of the emulator, not the ROM.

Did you try downloading a new copy?

A new run would be awesome. A new run with the Japenese version would be a huge disappointment. Please consider using the English version.

The console sections are for "Work-in-progress threads, discussions about games, TAS movies, and other playing topics" (copied straight from the main forum page).

It's okay to post a link to the .ips file. Also, the thread should be on the NES games forum, not in Off topic. I agree that Outlands is a pretty good hack though, it's been around for a while already.

You probably wrote it wrong, like I did. I believe the correct form is "Ghosts'n Goblins", not "Ghosts 'n Goblins".

Saying that TAS and speedrun times shouldn't be compared is retarded. The stupid saying originated when some people over at the speedrunning community felt offended by TASes and the people here tried to be as politically correct as possible and went overboard. Of course the times should be compared, the most interesting thing about the time is how much faster it is than the speedrun. There's nothing wrong about it. Even a mongoloid understands that you're not comparing the times directly and thus putting the speedrun time down because the TAS is faster.

Take a look at megaman's pause button glitch that allows faster boss deaths.
It doesn't allow any faster boss kills, it just makes killing them in the fastest possible time easier. If it did speed up the run, it would most certainly be used.
