Awesome. Absolutely loved how you went for score unlike in some previous versions where most of the candles were just ignored.

I already buy one in the second dungeon. There is no way I could collect enough hearts without slowing down to afford a second one at that point of the game.

If you manage to earn more hearts along the way (which does not slow down time) you can buy another life cup in the dungeon. Then you can afford to take the damage from the sikerooms in the 3 dungeon without having to wait.
This isn't entirely correct. You're right in that I would only need a couple more hearts to afford a cup (I have 189 in 3-4 and the cup costs 210), but what's wrong with this is that the only store I visit in 3-4 is located just before the boss, where I don't need health anymore. I go through all the spikerooms where I have to wait before I get to the store.

Now that I think about it more, it would be really interesting to see whether the exact same input at the exact same frames would give a different result in Famtasia than in FCEU. It might give an idea of how big a difference there can be between the two emulators.

Easier said than done since Arc's run was made with Famtasia :)

Hehe, the issue of my name has been brought up more than once. No one seems to get it right (apart from Finnish people) even if they DO look it up. But anyway, thanks for your comments everyone, and thanks for fast publishing.

Okay, here are answers to the questions with specific framecounts:
tmont wrote:
You could probably use the wall-jump glitch around frame 3000, so you don't have to screen wrap.
If you mean jumping through the hole that's only one block high, that's impossible. When jumping, Pit is always two blocks high, even when ducking. Pit's height doesn't change while jumping even if you duck.
tmont wrote:
Do you really need to take damage around frame 3300?
Now that I watch it in slow motion, it does look like it could've been avoided. I'm not sure though, it might be that if you jump from any farther away, Pit won't make the jump to the higher ledge.
tmont wrote:
5600- you can make that jump to the right, so you don't need to screen wrap (probably faster, I did it in my run).
I did this intentionally. It allowed me to get in a better position to kill those red flying thingies. If I had done it the way you suggest, the monsters would have been able to fly out of reach and I would've had to drag them along for a while without any good spots to kill them. This would've delayed the appearance of the next group of monsters, which I needed to kill to get enough skill.
tmont wrote:
15000- how does the collision detection work with those spiny-plant things? I've always been curious.
I found that the spiny thingies attached to walls rarely hit. I think the little circle in the middle of the plant is the part that's most likely to damage you.
tmont wrote:
15700- Could you have killed some of the reapettes to eliminate lag?
Maybe, but thinking about it now it probably would've been weighed out by the point tallying in the end. The point tallying takes a really long time. I'm not sure if the reapettes give points though.. There, I hope my answers are satisfactory. If there's anything else, ask away.

I can't say I'm a fan of the new look either. The box in which the recent additions are on the main page looks somehow very crowded. The font in the panel to the left looks worse and it disturbs me that the panel doesn't continue to the bottom of the page (probably just me). In my IE browser at work the movie pages are too "long" and make the screen scroll to the right a lot, although I'm not sure if this has been the case before as well. But yeah, Tub said it. I'm probably just used to the old one. EDIT: Oh, but I forgot to mention how much I like those new headings. !!! and !! look much better now.

I'll answer the things I can right now, and when I get home I'll answer the rest.

1-4 Were the rescued soldiers actually helping in the fight against Twinbellows? I couldn't tell. Is it really necessary to get hit by his projectile? (his fireball-thing is more damaging than his body)
No, the soldiers didn't hit once, but they didn't cost me any extra time either. I got hit by the projectile so one of the soldiers wouldn't. There's no reason for that, I just like the soldiers :)
tmont wrote:
2-1 How come you don't get the earlier weapon upgrade? Lack of 'skill'? Or is it slower? Not that it really matters, since you don't waste time killing stuff, but I'm just curious.
Yes, I didn't have enough skill at that point. Not nearly enough.
tmont wrote:
2-2 The rokmen massacre was nice. :)
Thanks. It was crap to do because I needed to turn around fast so many times. Turning around in this game is extremely slow.
tmont wrote:
3-1 Well done. I think the moving platform is more manipulatable, so you don't have to wait on the cloud with the reaper.
I tried to do this but couldn't. I didn't try it for hours upon hours though, so I might be wrong.
tmont wrote:
3-2 On the first moving platform, it looks like you waited so you didn't have to get hit. If you hadn't waited, could you have made the jump immediately to the next higher platform?
No. This is the point I had the most trouble with in the run. I didn't have enough health at that point to test if it was faster to jump straight away (there is a spiked plant in the way). When I finally did get around to testing it, I wasn't able to jump to the next platform.
tmont wrote:
3-4 This level suffered a little from you being careful due to you trying to avoid taking damage.
You may be right about the damage thing, I didn't really pay that much attention to it in world 1 or 2 because I didn't know that health was so hard to recover. Nevertheless, I still don't think I could've made this movie much faster by taking damage in different spots. Thanks for the comments tmont (and everyone else).

Yeah, what Fabian said. I resisted for a long time and had only watched up until 20% but then I gave up. Now I wish I hadn't :(

Yeah, this has been discussed often. This game does have awesome potential, but it is very tedious to do a TAS on. Good luck if you decide to do it!

I'm voting no. As mazzeneko said, you miss a lot of shots. I can't point you to a specific frame but even excluding the laser you still missed some shots. Also, the game is pretty much crap after the first platformer levels. There is a lot of boring racing and autoscrollers. Personally I love the fact that you went for no-damage but it still doesn't save this run.

I'm surprised such a small improvement (a large part of which was using up+down) meant this run should have a star while the previous run should not. Did this run just show how good Phil's really was? Because, to the new user (who "recommended" runs appear to be for) they would probably be no more impressed with this run than Phil's...
Phil's run did have a star.

Once more, I'll explain it. Three tanks is the minimum required to survive Mother Brain's deathbeam/brainwave/whatever. If you have less than 3 energy tanks and you make the mistake of saving in Tourian, you're stuck.

My mom pwnz you, she used to play Tetris a lot when I was a kid. Whenever I came from school, she'd be sitting on the floor playing tetris with glazed eyes and the first thing she said was "I know what this looks like but I really haven't been playing all day long". I think her record was a bit over 760,000 starting from level 9. And she's NEVER played any other pc/console game. Guess it shows how awesome and addictive the game is. Well, anyway, I suck at Tetris so you won't be seeing a movie from me.

I was under the impression that Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Red are two different games. Am I mistaken or is there another reason for this run obsoleting the Pokemon Blue run?

Sorry to say this, but it seems like things haven't improved at all in this area.
Actually things have improved greatly in this area. Lately we've been getting more publishers and encoders and the pace at which movies are published seems a lot faster to me than it was a while ago. Currently we have 6 publishers and 7 judges, not to mention people who just voluntarily encode .avis for the publishers, such as Maza. So it's not just Bisqwit. The quality of the site itself has also improved as editors are becoming more active and fixing and adding stuff to the site. I think NESvideos is doing better than ever in every aspect.

Well, it sounded like it could've had, what with the event horizons and black holes and time distortions.

I think Bisqwit has consciously ignored this and other ROM issues because of legal stuff. He doesn't want to be encouraging downloading ROMs off the net instead of dumping them.

Yay for a 100% run! Can't help you with your problem, but I just wanted to say that I'm already looking forward to this.

Yay for Solomon's key! Somehow I expected more of this run. I don't know why but I assumed that the physics could be broken in some unimaginably awesome way so that you could break blocks that you are standing on or that you could somehow walljump up the solid blocks. Thankfully I still wasn't disappointed because you did come up with some very interesting stuff like very fluent jumping and climbing up a vertical tower of blocks, plus you played around with enemies a lot and abused their crappy hit detection system. Additionally, it was nice to see the hidden rooms played and the princess rescued. I have no idea how ANYONE could have found all those symbols and complete the game with the best ending without reading a walkthrough. Hell, I can't even get through the game with the worst ending most of the time. Voting yes, and voting for obsoleting the current run (which I assume you have already had in mind when making this run).
