It's already accepted, but I have a question: in cloud ruins, when the game autoscrolls upwards, you are on the left when the scrolling stops, why not on the right? Does it mess up the scrolling somehow? Same thing when the game stops scrolling down at frame 50200.
If you're too far to the right, the screen won't start scrolling to the right before you go back and reach a certain point. I ensured I started moving at the first frame possible. As for Highness' question, what 4matsy said. You would think hitting stuff with the wand would be effective because it's so risky to do but sadly it doesn't work that way.

Yes, I did test it. As I say in the submission text, I made sure I would fire full-powered shots when possible. And thank you for your kind words and for accepting the movie, Bisqwit.

What? Fabian and Fabianx are not the same person? I always just assumed that Fabianx changed his nick to Fabian because Fabianx hasn't been around lately. Well this clears some things up..

Some timeattacks still requires descriptions as well as new screenshots at many places. There is lot more work to do.
Well, not really. I wrote all missing NES/SNES descriptions a while ago (can't get VBA to work properly). By my count there are only two movies lacking dscriptions and only one lacking a screenshot. So it's not like the site is falling apart :) About asking to become a judge, I don't know. I don't have very much free time, and I don't yet know if I want to use it by watching crappy submissions. We'll see.

Yeah I've also been waiting for more people to be appointed judges (or as previously discussed, "rejectors"). I've been ready to take action for months, I'm glad that something's happening, and I'm glad the appointed judge is Truncated because he seems like a very fitting person for the job in terms of motivation and objectivity etc.

Yay, it's been published! Thanks to everyone who voted and/or commented on the run, and of course to Bisqwit for accepting and DeHackEd for publishing!

Great to see this one finished! I still would've preferred to see a no-damage run like my own, but I guess it's necessary to take damage if you're going for the fastest time possible. I will edit my post once I have had time to watch the run. EDIT: Okay, I watched the run and I'm thoroughly embarrassed. I can't believe I didn't even try to use the power adapter for the X3 boss and the final boss. I remember testing it some but I guess after finding it useless on the 8 robot masters I discarded the whole idea. The movie was overall very good and the only thing that struck me was the Flameman rematch, but I sure do know what a pain manipulating those bosses is, so that's nothing I hold against you :) Also, as someone said before, the Blizzardman rematch was awesome. Good job!

Works fine for me but only if I copy and paste the address to the address bar.

I read that someone is doing an every-level run of SMB3. Most likely that run will go longer than this one. Under these current conditions, that run will never be published because it didn't beat 48:29 (the length of this run) and therefore didn't break the record. Personally, I think there should be a quickest run, a warpless run, and a 100% run.
You don't consider a run completing all levels a 100% run? Do you really get something out of visiting all toad houses and such? I think the 100% definition for SMB3 should be completing all levels with enemies including Hammer Bros. and the piranha plant(what was it they're called?) levels.

Even if this hadn't obsoleted Tokushin's movie, I would've suggested it be removed. It was very out of date and low quality. Oh, and a great movie you've got here, JXQ :)

I think you should definitely do it on hard mode, even if you have to restart. The problem with published normal mode runs is this: what if someone makes a hard mode run that's only slightly slower (due to being harder)? Should a slower run be able to obsolete a faster run just because of the level of difficulty? The Wild Guns video has been bugging me for AGES because of this.

He probably means Knight Man. I can answer that: not using the Jet in the Knight Man stage is faster.

Great movie so far. I guess I never considered not switching to Knight C in the beginning because it seems so suited for it (and it gets the whole weapon energy bar depleted in the end). About sliding back, couldn't you just have killed the fish? Or can't they be killed?

I speak Finnish as my native language but somehow I can express myself easier in English (you can't very well see this from my text, though, since I'm a pretty hasty writer). I will start studying to become an English teacher next fall. I can also communicate fairly well in Swedish and a little bit in German.

World 3 looks pretty good. 3-8 was the only level where I kinda felt the flow of the run was disturbed because you dropped in the water and didn't jump, even though you swam only a small distance after it. It somehow really looked like a screw up to me. Another place in 3-8 where I was having doubts was when you grabbed and threw away the two white blocks. It seemed to me like it would've been faster to jump over them so you could've saved at least some of your speed instead of stopping completely. Might be just me though, I didn't do any testing. EDIT: Oh, and the glitch in 3-9 was awesome. It caught me by surprise.

I can't seem to get through either. I guess this is just the kind of wall that doesn't let you through. I ran into some in Mario Adventure, too. I think it has something to do with the shape of the wall.

Also, does anyone have any tips on duck-jumping through walls besides "fail over and over"?
I don't really have a systematic strategy for jumping through walls. I just try to do it over and over from different distances and with different kind of jumps. A good strategy is to turn around while in the air, i.e. entering the wall with your back turned on it. Somehow it's a lot easier to get through with your back turned.

So.. shouldn't this be cancelled/rejected since there is a faster submission?

If it's possible to glitch through the wall on the lower level to get to Boom-Boom. (didn't think of it until after passing the level) Does anyone know if this is possible?
Do you mean glitching through the wall next to the pipe? It takes you to a large room with a flat ground and walls around you. You cannot walljump over them, there is a ceiling just above the screen.

I think it's stupid to play the japanese version just because of faster/shorter text. Slower texts have nothing to do with the quality of the playing, and it really ruins the run for me if I can't see what the player gets from chests, equip and what commands he uses using in battles. I really hope that future RPG runs use English versions even if they are slower.

Ah, cool. I always got the impression that nothing I did affected his movements except for entering the boss room at different frames. Nice to see the manipulation is working, the biggest improvement you're going to get is probably from the boss refights.

Yes, I know that but did he just do it twice straight away or did you have to manipulate him to? Because I never could. Or at least I couldn't make him move in between the snowflakes.

Wow, you're really saving a crapload of time in the boss battles. Could you somehow manipulate Blizzardman into rolling only once or did you just get lucky?

Since you brought it up, I think that giving some people rejecting priviliges (as Truncated has suggested before) would be a good idea. The "rejectors" should have high standards and not be afraid to reject submissions that have been lingering in the queue for 8 months without receiving many votes. We get so many high-quality submissions these days that we can afford to reject the fifty-fifty ones.

I have no idea about the download issue but since this thread has been raised from the dead I would like use this opportunity to inquire if someone might have the intrest to make a new movie of this game. We have two very old movies published and I'm sure it's possible to improve both of them by minutes. I also remember something about the 100% run not being truly 100%, but I'm not sure if I'm just hallucinating. If I'm not, I think one good run could replace both runs (and leave room for a good 100% / any% run, whichever isn't done first). So, any Kid Icarus wizards out there just itching to test their TASing skills? EDIT: And I guess this thread should be moved to the NES Games forum.
