Worlds 1-4 + levels 5-1 and 5-2. Still no savestates, sorry. Dehacked's microstorage doesn't seem to accept them. Anyway, I was pretty sloppy here, and I'm noticing myself getting lazier and lazier. I realized at the boss that I didn't have a fireflower and that I would have to redo the whole stage to get one, so I decided to just let it go. EDIT: Oh, and the level where you have to collect the coins was a disaster, a feather would have sped it up immensely.

Yay! Good to see you're still here, I was sure this project was completely buried.

Not right before entering the wall, because you cannot shoot while ducking, and I don't think it's possible to fire earlier either, because at P-speed mario is faster than the bullets, which means Mario would hit the koopa before the bullet. And you can't fire or use the tail while inside the wall either.

Worlds 1-3 and stage 4-1. Next time I'll try to remember to put some savestates with the movie file too. There are a lot of stupid mistakes in there I just didn't feel like correcting, such as getting the fireflower in the self-scrolling level. I didn't realize until later that it stops the scrolling for a second (duh). The movie is already so riddled with mistakes that I don't have the energy to go back and redo a level just because of some minor error. Hope you enjoy it anyways.

How do you continue recording from a movie file?
The exact same way as most other re-recording emulators: Play back the movie, and when you get to the place you want to continue from, Pause then Save then Load then un-Pause. You can tell if you're recording because the frame counter at the bottom-left will change from saying #/# to just saying #, and the Stop Recording menu option should become enabled instead of Stop Playback.

Call me old fashioned but I'm not really into resetting to get a faster time if its purpose is just to skip some cutscenes. I did the entire World 3 during the weekend in a single session and as I was playing the last level, FCEU crashed and, naturally, I lost everything I had made that morning. I guess I can't really blame anyone but myself for not making backups. Yesterday my computer self-destructed so you won't be seeing any progress for a while. I might be able to fix the computer problem during the week but if I'm unlucky (and lazy) it might take even a couple of weeks.

Finally watched it, and was blown away. It was so full of awesome and unexpected tricks I can't even remember all of them anymore. The great effort you've put into planning each stage really shows, I can't wait to see more!

Up to World 2 here. I found some decent shortcuts too, so tell me what you think.

I'm not going to submit this, I'm just doing this for the fun of it. If I'm still up for it, maybe I'll try making a more polished version after finishing this run.

Okay, new version here. It's actually slower than the previous one because it snowed in one level where it had been sunny before.

Aww I didn't notice that. This means that since the cheat code requires resetting, I have to redo the last two levels and part of the one with the key.

I liked this hack so much that I did a little run of World 1 which you can find here. The run isn't that high quality and I only did it for fun, but I might continue it later.

Not the order of the bosses, no, but maybe things done in the levels, weapon changes etc.

I really think we need someone else working on this game. Because I have never had any serious competition (except for maybe Wodball and someone else I'm forgetting), it's really hard for me to question my choices and I might be blind to some (obvious) mistakes. I mean I'm sure I could squeeze some time off the run with the help of FCEU and some minor improvements, but I'm just as certain I will never come up with anything major that could make the run actually BETTER, not just more precise. I'm sure someone will challenge my run soon, just like Kopernical's runs have been.

Again, I am reviving this thread, this time to say that I am really burned out on this game. I started trying to improve my run again but after three stages I started to get a feeling this run would never be finished. I would still like to see a new Mega Man 6 run and I want to encourage anyone who has the time and energy to try their hand at this game. I would be more than happy to help in any way I could if someone picked this up. Now I'm going to list some of the things that should be done better in the next version. The biggest errors in my old run are in the boss fights. The bosses in MM6 like to jump a lot, and it's not always easy to manipulate them into keeping their feet on the ground. I lose a lot of time because of bad luck manipulation especially the second time the bosses are fought. Overall precision. The old run was done with Famtasia, which means that menu handling, jumping, shooting and sliding can all be done a lot more precisely. Some of my decisions were just BAD. For example the end of the Plantman stage was horrible. You can see the changes I made to it from the FCM below. There is also something I never tested: the shortcut at the beginning of Yamatoman stage. There is a destructable block in the second or third (or was it the first?) screen in the lower right corner. I always just assumed it was slower because it requires you to change into the power adapter for a considerably long period of time AND fight a miniboss, even though the distance you have to travel is shorter. I also never tested the long route in Dr. X stage 1 (the space-themed stage). I'm in a hurry right now so I don't have time to think if there was something else, but I'll edit this later if something comes to mind. You can find the video of the first three stages here. Note that the strategy used in the Flameman stage is apparently SLOWER than the one used in the previous version, so scratch that.

Amazing! I found this to be the most entertaining and surprising run in a long time, good job!

Doublepost so that SpoonyBard sees the new message: I got through 8-7. Seems to me that you only need to collect all the coins except for the 3 behind the blue wall and the 3 that are in the starboxes. The door appears at the beginning. I think I had also killed all the enemies, but I don't know if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the tip! It worked fine and I got to keep my items as well. On to World 8 then!

Okay now this is what I don't like about hacks: they aren't thought through. I just played through the the seven worlds and got the keys, only to notice that in the end there was one lock still unopened. I hadn't used the keys as soon as I had gotten them, and I realized that one key must've been replaced by some other item in my inventory, because it was full. I tried to get all the keys again, but the game is so "smart" that it prevents me from getting the same key twice, even though I haven't ever used that key on the lock. So now if I want to get to world 8 I have to play through the entire game again. YAY! Does anyone have a savestate so that I don't have to go through the trouble?

You should check this topic out. Blublu apparently found a way to skip shades altogether, so you should probably PM him about that or something.

Sages are useless - slow and no good abilities.
What game have you been playing? From what I can remember you can get Bio way earlier than Firaga or Blizzaga, and it does really nice damage, especially with Turbo MP. And, needless to say, Giga Flare owns it all. I found Black Mages pretty useless when compared to Sages when I played the game.

Why has no one suggested Final Fantasy Tactics Advance? Does everbody think it's a horrible idea? I'd really like to see it done. I would fast forward through it though, since the pace of the game is very slow and one can easily see what's happening even with fast forward.
