I have no idea what you're talking about, of course you are on low HP. The situation in the video is this: Squall is on low HP. Squall's turn comes up, but the limit break doesn't. mz presses circle and the limit break comes up. What I'm wondering is whether you can manipulate the situation into this: Squall is on low HP. Squall's turn comes up, and he gets the limit break right away, without pressing circle. Are you saying this is not possible?

Of course I know that, I meant is it not possible to manipulate it so it appears on the first try so you don't have to ever "press circle".

Looking very forward to this. Not getting the limit break on the first try looks pretty bad, is it not manipulatable by delaying the previous command?

My whole point is that everything in the run is going to be important, as it maintains consistency. If you're going to change one thing in the game for the sake of speediness, that opens the possibility of changing other things too.
That just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm happy to leave it at that.

Sure, that's taking it a bit far, but the logic stands.
No, it doesn't because it's not the same thing at all. As I said in my previous post, the Shining Force 2 cheat is about speeding up the non-important parts of the game. I don't think anyone can seriously claim that in SMRPG battles are non-important parts of the game. These two examples are in no way comparable. I'd rather compare this cheat to, say, cutting out loading times or the "get item" fanfares in Super Metroid. EDIT: Oh, and OHKOing every enemy using cheats being more impressive, wtf? We're really not on the same wavelength.

The cheat code we are talking about here is neither cosmetic nor challenge modifying.
I'm afraid I must still disagree. I don't see speeding up cursor movements as "speeding up the game" per se but rather making non-important parts of the game go by faster and thus improving the experience of the viewer. I definitely don't see using this cheat leading to people wanting to use other kinds of cheats. The definition of cosmetic according to dictionary.com is "used or done superficially to make something look better, more attractive, or more impressive", which I think fits nicely in this case.

I don't see why a speed-up cheat couldn't be used as long as it's mentioned in the publication. Just like the no-suit cheat in Metroid. And aren't difficulty-raising cheat generally allowed? I don't see a reason not to use a cheat that only adds something cosmetic or makes the game more challenging.

Oh man, that just reminds me of how desperately this game needs to be TASed. This and Yoshi's Island 100%.

I think there's been a lot of discussion around when to stop SMB movies because people are competing over single frames. I think the consensus back in the day was that you need to stop the movie when hitting the axe rather than when ending the input so the actual time from start to completing the game (i.e. hitting the axe) doesn't actually become longer because of ending the input earlier and letting Mario roll slowly to the end. Maybe it's time for change in this regard? EDIT: See for example ziplock's comment and Bisqwit's answer here as well as Bisqwit's comment here and adelikat's (:D) comment here.

I really think a mountain is being made out of a molehill here. Is this really such a disturbing problem that it requires some sort of special system that imposes restrictions on users? I, at least, don't think so.

Wow, you're pretty late to the party. Braid was released almost a year ago already. I enjoyed it when it came out but it's just too damn short :/

Yeah, definitely go with #2 (i.e. no wobbling).

So Yoshi will wobble from side to side whenever the player is using 1/1, i.e. all the time? If that's the case, then I vote for not using it. It will make the run look completely different from actually playing the game and I can imagine it could totally ruin the run for me.

Yup, if there is a 100% run made and it's not on the SNES version, I'm gonna be one dissatisfied customer.

I WILL VOTE YES ON THE CONDITION THAT YOU START WORKING ON A 100% RUN IMMEDIATELY.

Thanks for responding. I sure hope you'll get around to it because I'm almost certain this would be one of the coolest TASes on the site once it's completed.

So NxCy, are you still working on the 100% run? Care to give an update?

For me, it would seem really weird to not collect the coins. They are obviously meant to be exactly like DK coins in DKC, even if they don't unlock actual playable levels but minigames. Is it visible anywhere how many you've collected? If the collection rate is tracked then I think there's no question about it, they should be collected. Also it's not like Super Metroid with one simple percentage in the end saying how well you did, so I wouldn't say they "don't count towards 100% scoring". The perfect score in my mind for each level is 100 + baby coin. So I'd argue they do count towards 100% scoring.

If you're planning on making a submittable 100% run, I really think you need to collect the baby coins too, otherwise it'll be seen as a movie which doesn't achieve its goals (and I think they unlock something? I haven't really played this game).

When running "936 - Puzzle Quest - Challenge Of The Warlords (U)(Xenophobia).nds", the following message pops up on the screen after the intro: "Error reading save game - Could not read the data. Turn off the power and reinsert the DS Card." This isn't a Windows error message or anything, it just comes on the DS screen. Any idea what's up?

Wow, this is coming along nicely. With the previous version, Yoshi's Island was very choppy on my computer, but now it seems to run fine, choking only when there's lot of action on the screen. Good job guys!

bullshit bisqwit, I find it cool that an unoptimized run was accepted and dont mind a change of policies towards that, but if that's only gonna be for your friends then... (you trying to rationalize why this can be given preferential treatment but others can't due to not being first anymore)
I'll just answer that with this:

If you think I am setting the precedent to publish movies that have known improvement then you would be....right. I don't know if you noticed but things have gotten more lax on TASvideos regarding that.
So yeah, I think everything's been said already.
