If anything should be destarred it should be the 120-star Mario 64 run. It's fantastic and all, but no first-time viewer's going to sit through Dire, Dire Docks seven times.
I've got a feeling that, for new viewers, there are basically three (3) categories of runs that should be starred: (1) Glitch Runs: Since they showcase the advantages of how programming errors can be exploited using emulators (2) Skill Runs: Frame perfection. This is done using the same information/techniques as someone on SDA, but with the use of re-records, can be executed perfectly (versus sacrificing the overall experience due to a player error that can't be undone in a single/multi-segment run ... see the 120 star run on SDA of Mario64) (3) Style Runs: These encompass Skill runs (and sometimes both Skill and Glitch runs), but go the extra mile to ensure that any "dead air" in the movie is filled with the maximum amount of extra "eye candy". FODA's 120 star run, IMO, falls under the last category. Anyone who's played the game or seen another run of it can appreciate the time and effort put into making it what it is today. I think it deserves to keep the star, regardless of the length of the movie, as every attempt was made to make redundant trips entertaining; be it through showcasing glitches, speed or just out and out style. Taking a (consentually voted) sampling from all three categories will likely attract newer users to continue cruising the site, checking out additional movies, and/or even trying to make one of their own. Just my two cents ;)

It looks very nice everywhere except the overworld, where you paused twice. Weak yes vote.
I'm gonna assume that was to manipulate the overworld enemy encounters so he could avoid them as quickly as possible

Ha! I always knew the warps would be found, but not so much in one run. Loved it. Yes! Anyone who has played this game will be baffled. When I can vote, I'll vote yes.
:) You motivated me man. Got a feeling up to another minute can be shaved off ... but it'll take some serious testing.

Impressive how much time could be shaved off the original run. This is still confusing as hell to watch ... but entertaining :) Yes.

Minus half an hour. Or did you deduct that already?
I think TSN is showing it at 1 (EST)

voting meh since it wasn't really that entertaining, but it does beat an existing run. Was on the fence if I should vote at all, but clicking a button isn't all that difficult so there you have it :P

I finally got 98.16 to build under windows (somewhat) properly (lots of commenting out). I'm going to take a stab at implementing the new mm's into the 98.16 source, and if all goes well ... well, i guess we'll see :P (first, need to familiarize myself with the code, second, figure out what luke did, third ... hopefully improve on that). Will keep everyone posted.

If you've made a new FCM of the improved level, and you still have a copy of the original movie, I can show you how to combine the two. Let me know when you've got the new level done and I can walk you through the process.

I think, one game that deserves a big fat star is Mike Tyson's Punch Out.......!!!......... Reason: The game gets pwned in a way that is easily seen to the new viewer... and is a well-known game.
Agreed. Super Punchout is entertaining, but I think most of us got our asses handed to us in the day by the original :P

1. Make a copy of the original movie 2. Start recording from Stage2 and improve whatever isn't satisfactory. 3. Splice the two together (I have an editor, as does Zefiris). If you have any difficulty with the process, I'd be happy to give it a go for you. Just post the files to microstorage (or zip them up and stick them somewhere accessible). Assuming no randomness issues (as Nach described), this should work. EDIT: This assumes you aren't running an N64 game ;)

River City Ransom: What exactly is appealing to a newcomer about this outdated run?
I've got to admit that this was the first run I ever saw on this site. As a result, I got hooked, so for my own selfish reasons I'd have to fight to keep it starred.

Eerie how the world bobs up and down in level 1 but the water level stays exactly the same (lazy programmers). I'm not a big fan of pacifist runs, but this was good enough to keep my attention :) Yes vote.

am I the only one who wants to know what Bisqwit did with FCEU to make it throw in all those debug-like messages, or is this something I just didn't know about that everyone else does?
Pretty sure Bisqwit's editing fceu to display messages. This would have to be on a game by game basis though (correct me if I'm wrong) because I'm assuming he's capturing assembler events.

Good work. Looks improvable (but probably isn't ... don't know this game at all). Yes vote here.

ah, ArguementOutOfRangeException, we meet again :P Ventuz found a bug, which I'll address shortly. I'm likely going to release a fix (0.9.1) in the coming days.

Nevermind. I found another shortcut, but I can't skip an NPC dialogue (like I currently do) so that eats up any time that could have been improved :( EDIT. If someone wants to try improving this eventually (I think I've done as much as I'm capable of ... for now), if you die after getting disk 2 and go analyze it, Australia opens up. You can bypass the glitched fight, but you'll only have 20 HP for Australia (glitch through the door, but you may not have enough energy to take damage in an efficient way).

Sorry to do this again, but I think I can save EVEN more time :P Zurreco, confusing how? Is it because the run is that glitched or do I need to beef up the submission text?

Well, it desyncs horribly, so I have to redo the Red Dragon, but (after the initial splice), the time comes in at about 5:42, so this is a larger improvement than I anticipated :)

I now understand how the wall glitch works, so I'm going to submit a better run shortly (splicing makes this process a lot easier :)) I think I can shave even more time off (like possibly 30 seconds)
