Stumbled upon Arc's site Randomly when there was only like 10 videos there (combining speedruns and TAS)... found links to SDA & Bisqwit's site from there... registered only a few months later when I wanted to make a few posts

Yeah I would definitly love to see this movie. I do suggest however that you discuss it with Bisqwit before making it because he might not like the idea of using a game-genie code to reach the Ancient Cave We might have to, for example, use the old Lufia2 movie file that quietkane was using to make his movie... it goes all the way to the ancient cave anyways so it could be used to be the starting point of the movie (IE, your movie would be a seperate smv file that starts at the end of his... your start with lvl 1 and nothing in the cave anyways)

My two cents: include the patch/patcher with the movie. That way, if the patch is obsoleted, the correct version will always be available for use with the run.
Sounds like an idea that solves most of the problem. Simple answers are sometimes the best. In which situations could it be applied? I don't want it to become a loophole for accepting all kinds of "translations" that happen to hack the game in unknown ways.
Basicly, you or the encoders should have the last word on it... you decide if the game is worthy of having a fan translation and if possible have someone play through the game to see if it's the same (IE no stats changed, etc). We could possibly make a list of games that are ok to use fan-translations for (with a confirmation of permission from you before they actually start the run) or maybe for a game with several translations, choose which 1 is the best and stick with that one.

Well, quite frankly I don't watch runs in japanese unless it's for a platform game or such because it gets annoying not knowing what is going on at all during the battles (which moves they are using, etc). This game won't be any different and I really hope it is done on the US Version... I say this because I am 100% certain I am not the only one which will not what this run if it's on the japanese version.

Not really concerning the run but I found a patch that puts the japanese stats on the english version of the game =D There's an insanely big difference but apprentices are still hardcore... the problem is, if you over-level, they will be over-leveled as well but with better gear =P EDIT : Post now 100% better, including the link =/ http://members.shaw.ca/jskarzin/7thsaga/

wow, I never found a lot of those O_o But this also made me think, we can also manipulate drops I assume? We could get a bunch of potion1 at the start instead of buying them like Drom did... I also know Brains drop Life Recovery (I actually have no idea what this is but meh, could be good lol... probably a type of potion). This could also be a nice way of getting money, when monsters have a rare drop or something. P.S : I take pity on whoever will be making the real run for this, manipulation for everything... Good luck Tailz =) "Holy crap. Tricks can drop quite a few items... 1/16 chance of dropping opals or emeralds, 9/16 chance of topaz, 3/16 of ruby and 2/16 of sapphire. That could be handy... hopefully the tricks will want to cooperate. I found them nigh impossible, and that was without trying to manipulate an emerald. " Well, we could get 1 more level for that point... it would not take too long if we plan out the battles & it would make it much easier to kill the trick & manipulate him... Also don't forgot you will have 1 protection seed that you didn't take (+4 def) so it will help a bit... They usually take 2 hits to kill though, so you would only need to dodge 1 hit or block it I imagine

We should make a list of every seed in the game for now though.. +4 for a certain stat each time is definitly going to help, as it's better than a level up for that stat I know you missed one in the 2nd town, to the left of the town in the trees, there is a protection seed there. Would be fun if the guides on GameFaqs were a bit better =/ Tailz, if you want to try your luck @ this game, you should first record a test run of the game... not really an intensive test run for time I mean, but just manipulation Like, don't try to manipulate as best/fast as possible, just do like Drom was doing... we only need to know what levels are optimal for certain parts. Although, once we reach the brains, we can manipulate brain-only encounters (enter/exit town or something... probably a better way but meh) Also, make sure that everytime you recruit an apprentice, they are 2 levels higher than you, I think that is the max. Other note : I the cave with the 1st pison, we should kill that treasure chest monster... they can drop rare gems if you can manipulate them well enough, so it would be a quick 2500-5000 gold

That solely depends on how well you can manipulate luck I suppose... I don't remember anything about being at a certain level at any point in the game though

Yeah power-leveling in the sewers is a good idea... the houses give like 30megs each I think... as long as we can manipulate luck well enough to destroy them easily. I'm not so sure if a shield will be needed, depending on how well luck can be manipulated... just using savestates though it seemed as though there is poor luck manipulation possibilities in this game, but I'm no expert on these type of things

So I've been playing this game for the past 2 days and I gotta say, it could make an interesting TAS. It's a pretty short game for an RPG (think Magic Knight Rayearth (sp.) short) so while it would be a bit repetitive (what RPG isn't), it wouldn't be too long. With luck manipulation you could get monsters to drop all the scrap you need and in battle get the equip upgrades whenever you fight non-boss battles. The only problem I think might arise is that some bosses are very tough when you are low-level so some strategies would need to be developped so they don't take 1 hour to beat each, or that you don't die in 1 hit. I'm also pretty sure that you would only need 2 robots... the 4000 gold needed to make the 3rd robot could be saved for weapons. Also, the 2nd robot wouldn't need to be made too early so that you can power up your first one. Also, you would need to make RUNs that kill all enemies but don't take too long. For example, using a RUN that's 3-times sword-4 might kill every enemy but if using a RUN that's only 2-times sword-4 kills every enemy as well, obviously you need to think things through. I've also noticed RUNs can do different thing depending on how you mix them. I use a bomb-punch-punch run that makes your robot jump behind the enemy, punch X2, jump back to start. Probably a few combos that do good damage this way. It's also a good idea to check which Inventor's Friend you might need. If you need a certain item so you can upgrade it, you could either manipulate it from a monster though so maybe it's better to just get none of these. So main concerns would be : -Manipulating scrap drops. -Manipulating equip level ups. -Choosing where to level up. -Choosing which weapons to make when to have the best possible damage versus bosses. -Making optimal RUNs. -Choosing which Inventor's Friend you will need if any. -Making the TAS entertaining enough to make someone watch it all... maybe using all the different weapons at least once might be nice. This is probably the most important point right now How do you guys feel about a run of this game? Interesting enough? I don't think it will be too repetitive because you will be upgrading your weapons very often for a large portion of the game.

After you've gotten the emulator, you need to download the correct rom (don't ask for a link because it is against the rules to post such links) When you find the rom, load it with the emulator, let it play for 5-10 seconds then go in "tools" and choose "play movie", and load the .vbm file. That's it, if you have the correct rom, it will play fine

How to succumb to SOR1 like so many others in the past I used to be a pro at this game 10+ years ago so much so that I could beat the game using only one life, but I've lost my touch quite a bit since then, and yeah its those bitch twins in the last level that get me, since there is no police attack in the last level. I have to admit even though Mona and Lisa have psychic powers and deadly tag team moves there still harder in the original version.
Couldn't help but notice you did not tell us the name of this game... SOR really doesn't mean much to me

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fix this glitch : http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4604/Dragon%20View%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D%20temple%20glitch.smv This game is really fun to play & watch (IMO) but this glitch really screws things up for recording movies (not necessarily for a TAS but I hate using ZSNES to play this game) Is there someway to patch the rerecording version of Snes9x (improv9) to make it so it can emulate that part of the game... there's also a second temple which probably does the same thing but I can't reach it anyways in Snes9x...

well I don't watch movies with input on so I didn't see these things... could be nice but for me it was just another super metroid movie... obviously I'll vote yes but I am getting bored with these games... always the same with a few minor improvements, we've already seen it all heh... unless it gets a 5 minute improvements I don't think I will be watching anymore movies for this game heh
Mlandry, At some point during the 3 pages of "wow this input display is FANTASTIC, I'm laughing so hard right now holy shit hahaha", did you consider hitting the input display button in your emulator? Just curious.
Maybe, just MAYBE I watched the movie before reading the comments. Think before making stupid comments. And no, I will not watch a 1hour movie again to see some inputs.

Well here's another Dragon View movie I made (different from the last so you gotta watch from start)... I decided to go forest-powerleveling and use save states (cause I use them normally)... ~95% are me getting lost on the map anyways so it's not a big deal... the forest is suprisingly easy to level in even in real time Anyways, I had a desynch watching it in Fast forward (right after Galys Pass) so try to watch that part in normal speed... if it desynchs anyways oh well Oh and killing the ifrit with the lightning ring = bad idea =p (especially when forgetting to charge the ring lol) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4353/Dragon%20View%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D.smv
