Nice video, but you used the "psg high quality" option, that should not be used for any reason, as it makes the jump sound to sound retarded.

I'm afraid I have to bring up a question, after looking at a pic posted by MUGG: It appears you navigate through the ROM. That's fair and understandable. However, do you break any block while in the ROM area? Because, that would be equivalent to writing to ROM, thus making it an emulator quirk and unreplicable on real hardware.

Very easy and gigantic YES vote for a publication in a new category (maybe low%). Also I tried to encode MUGG's version of the movie from the post above, but that vbm doesn't complete the game, it gets stuck at a point where Mario collects 999 coins.

2011 started only 5 days ago but we already have the best post of the year. I 200% agree with what you said (meaning that not only I agree, but you've still been too kind with them, I would have said even worse things).

Not really a bug, but the forum descriptions on the forum index are inconsistent some are ended with a full stop, some others aren't. For example we have "Game Boy Advance games.", "Sega Master System and Game Gear games.", but we also have "Sega Saturn Games" and "Nintendo DS games", there should be more consistency in my opinion.

There is a small mistake in what adelikat said while judging this run. I notified him by private message a couple of days ago since I don't like to draw attention towards mistakes, but he probably didn't read it so I have to report it here.

The "this" submission links to 1950S instead of 2950S.

Thanks, Flygon, but I'll pass. I'm not a fan of HD videos.

I agree with the feeling expressed by a few people above. This is a good submission, but I don't think there should be two categories for a game like this. So I abstain from voting, or rather, I throw a "pick one" vote in the pile either keep the old one (and do what DarkKobold said, write a mention in the summary), or obsolete the old one with this (since this one uses a glitch it has that little something better than the other one, which can be likewise linked).

Here is an SD encode with sync sound, made with Flygon's parameters (umh and crf=18 as per his suggestions, though I used merange=512 even if he suggested 128): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17315175/arcademichaeljacksonsmoonwalker-tas-darkkobold.mkv Also here is another screenshot, because Flygon's one wasn't the suggested one (the kid is too far from Michael Jackson), and it wasn't optimised (still used /C2, you could shave more than 2.5kB from it with /C3): edit (as per this suggestion): File name: arcademichaeljacksonsmoonwalker-tas-darkkobold.mkv File size: 105922976 bytes MD5: f35a5c9539076b9a11dbb1da2288aea5 MD4: 4fbf7d580bb2939d7aa682a1cb4e01ec SHA1: 378e185fa968749d09d4637ff4c2f470e45ed6c1 SHA256: 1f11ec09dcfd3fe5418c6e45ecc61d03518910a8762c2b64b3b5a0ade56ce593 SHA384: 09eebaaa5d89f95d88b5eb45fa300106497d6e589a2f442c59e6fa9773c4e6216b6f5976c826ec6bb832ef94f1899f35 SHA512: a960a75651cccb71f4942c354e97ccb38608c718a43c7b317823f31327619c29529ce297c7bcbf4ae8a560eec9cfa69c81ee517b3e558ed4138325f01208750e MD2: 53f6291054587179ae83fd5dae8d4465 ADLER32: 92076fea CRC32: 80059f91 edit 2: also yes vote, it is a good movie, with nice action and (of course!) great music

This topic title should be updated, I'm pretty sure there are other digits after the 06.

Better than before. Maybe still a bit suboptimal, but it deserves a meh vote.

The gaps are there because I don't get any submissions anymore. Most people prefer keeping their actual m64s secret and unverified apparently. Shame, if my list got more submissions we'd have higher standards and an increased possibility of ever completing a 120 stars TAS instead of duplicate work and "uh, lost the m64" or "no, I won't share it".
Thanks Johannes for explaining that. Yeah it is sad the list can't get updated because of that, hopefully the 120 stars TAS will proceed anyway. Speaking of which:

Cool stuff. I believe the strategies for the Bob-omb level are getting better and better. Maybe you're going to have one optimised level out of 15 within a few weeks. And now for something off-topic:

The forum acted weird on me a few minutes ago. I posted, it said the post went through, but the post disappeared. Also I was logged out while I was posting. Then I reposted. It turned out to be a double post. Sorry if I probably flooded the irc with post notifications, it wasn't my fault, I was logged out after I submitted, and the forum had that bug where it says the last post was made in 1969 or something like that.

Wait a second, there is something I noticed in both the Youtube video and the official encode. Has this star always been visible in the ending credits? I never noticed that... Though now I double checked amongst "supermario64-tas-120stars-rikku.avi" and that star is there, too (although blue). I can't believe I never noticed that in the past 14 years.

Yeah the best thing to do is to pastebin the amended text and ask a staff member to replace it. Or maybe an admin can enter the database and change the submitter field from Kyman to sonicpacker. Either way it's great to see this is out at last.

This video is pretty old but I don't think it was posted before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhHAuMep748 I would like to hear Baxter's opinion about it, since it's obviously not assisted, yet it looks awesome, at least to my noob eyes.

When this was asked the last time, this is what I said:

Records used to be listed here, but that list is extremely outdated by now. It was meant to be replaced by this, but there are lots of gaps in it.
Sadly it is not updated yet.

The site staff is better than what you implied when you created this thread. I think Sgrunt and Nach are good guys. Flygon is helpful towards new potential encoders. Adelikat is doing a very good job at leading this website. Bisqwit was awesome too and he will always be missed. The judges are strict but they're supposed to be; and they, too, are doing a good job. Really, I don't know what you were thinking to be so bad, but I don't see all the evilness at all. I like this place and the way it's running.

I'm not sure you should have changed his "real name" as well, though. I think that one should be just Mickey, unless his surname is /VIS.

I remember when the first version of this TAS was published, I voted meh because I was disappointed it was an any% and not a 100%. However this time around I can't avoid voting yes. The new massive skips are probably the most obvious improvement, but there are several other changes I noticed (my favourite one being the new Stove Canyon 1 where you used the invincibility). Faster AND with more glitches, I can finally like the any% ) However Greenalink, I still think you should work on a 100% as well (all levels including "hidden" ones, all treasures, all bosses including the penguin, 99999 coins, best ending), which as of now would be even more different than this one, as you played in only 19 levels in this one. There should be another run to showcase all that this game has to offer. tl;dr yes vote this is great
