As far as I can see, there's no mention of the Discord server. So perhaps under the Wiki: WelcomeToTASVideos#WhatIsTasvideos section, add a link and a brief description of what exists there?
Fair point, added!

Also, I noticed the introduction video is 11 years old now, and the image quality is quite low. Are there any other videos that might better show off TASing in the last decade?
We've had a couple offers from people wanting to remake that video, but no results as of yet. As soon as something new and good pops up, it'll replace the current one.

I'm going to start turning my attention to modernizing some of the outdated pages, particularly the ones that tend to get a lot of hits and could lead to a lot of misconceptions. Since modernization efforts are almost always going to lead to complete page rewrites, I've set up a "Legacy Pages" hub to archive the original versions of anything that gets fully rewritten so they can be used as reference points in case any important information gets lost in the rewriting process. I started with rewriting Wiki: WelcomeToTASVideos, which should hopefully better reflect how we currently operate. Let me know ASAP if anything can be improved/added/changed: Given that this is one of the first pages new users are likely to see, it's extremely important to me that it's as good as it possibly can be.

It's still taking a while, as I've been exploring different routes with the glitches used in the RTA record, and I haven't quite confirmed whether or not any of my new route ideas are actually possible. There's one absolutely insane route that is possible in theory but might not be in practice, and there's a more reasonable route that I am fairly confident is possible in practice but I haven't managed to get it to work yet. Needless to say, it could still be a while longer before I submit something, but I'm more confident about how the final result is going to look even if it might not be what I'm envisioning.

I've disagreed with RTA rules before, strictly because there's always going to be cases where some ruleset works for us but doesn't work for RTA or vice versa. There's already a decent number of other things that are inherent to us (strict universal Power On -> Final Input timing being the main one), so it shouldn't matter if we adapt glitchless rulesets to fit us or even come up with them ourselves if need be. The beautiful thing is that nothing we come up with has to be set in stone. Ultimately, what's the worst case scenario if we're wrong? A run gets published? Heavens, me! Think of the children!!!

GBAHawk is a fork of BizHawk based entirely around a new GBA core, built from scratch for the purposes of GBA console verification and hardware research. If the release history is anything to go by, this is an interim build between 1.4 and 1.4.1, which is... one full decade out of date. I'd be shocked if this is somehow still a problem on 2.9.1, given all of the updates to RAM Search and Gambatte since.

Userfiles, for sure. Everything submitted to the workbench is judged for publication, while Userfiles is essentially just a hosting service for input files.

Do you intend to continue working on this? Just making sure I don't judge the run before it's fully done.

Holding left for 3 more frames at the end triggers the credits. This is what the published run does, as ending the input any earlier triggers the full reset. The submission text for that run briefly touches upon this:
The screens continue to change up until the credits because the player keeps sliding across the screen to the left as long as left is held on the last frame before the screen transition.
The improvement on the screenwrap is legit, so the run's still a 3 frame improvement on the publication.

* I take issue with the choice of emulator. Fceux is known for being less faithful. But even worse, you are still using a very old version of it. Insisting with this choice in 2023 seems lazy, at best.
FCEUX is still completely acceptable on TASVideos, and we are not considering deprecating it. Emulator choice is not at all an issue of "laziness", it is simply a matter of preference.

If we build it, they may come... But right now the barrier of entry remains gated. My take remains that we should pave the way for Celeste TAS content we *know* is both important to their own community as well as to viewers (a Celeste TAS was just shown at SGDQ 2023). Once we have this one example in place, others will have a blueprint to follow. Without a path to publication there's a lot less drive to try (ask me how I know...); making this Celeste example will immediately make a significant trove of content available for submissions, assuming the community is still interested by that point.
I don't think we can just jump in and start building support for any of these tools without having a conversation with their respective communities first. We want to support these tools and these communities, but there's no way we can reasonably do so if we don't know what they are, how they work, or if those communities are even interested in working with us. That's why this thread exists: It's meant to be an open invitation to developers of these tools to reach out to us and either show interest or let us know what we could be doing better. We haven't had anyone reach out yet to the best of my knowledge, which to me means that either nobody knows this is an option or that nobody is interested in working with us. It could be anything, really, but the solution to anything it could be is the same: We need to be talking to these communities directly, and if they're not reaching out to us, then we should be reaching out to them. Is the Celeste TAS community interested? I was under the impression it was the opposite, actually, in that they still had concerns with TASVideos and were hesitant to reach out. In that case, just building the parser likely isn't going to help bring them over here, and I feel like they could even see it as hostile. I'd be more than happy to talk to them about it and hopefully fix those concerns, but I would need to know where they are, when they're available, and whether or not they're willing to talk in the first place. Without that conversation, more specifically and importantly their explicit support and approval, I wouldn't be comfortable with going ahead and implementing a CelesteTAS parser, and that also holds true with any tool from any other community.

I apologize for how long it's taken to begin judging this movie. Is there an input file for the verification movie?

Eduardo_EVF, why did you cancel this and reset it to New in the middle of publication? This is actively disruptive to the site workflow, and given some of your past behavior with submissions, it's hard not to see this as intentionally hostile. If you're having trouble with the submission system, please reach out to us for assistance, otherwise any further disruptions like this will result in you temporarily losing your ability to submit runs. EDIT: I feel I'm not going to get a response here, so I'm giving the go-ahead to restart the publication process.

I'm not aware of the level of optimization required for tasvideos so I thought I would throw my hat in the ring especially since it is a big improvement.
It's definitely not as high as Sniq implied with that comment. Perfection is nice, but it's unreasonable for us to outright require it in any submission we get, so we aim for optimization within reason. Basically, as long as you're not making mistakes that are obvious to casual/unfamiliar viewers, you're golden.

Hi, been a while. Things may have been happening with this game over the last month. Recently, I was alerted to a new RTA record using a couple new glitches. The run had been submitted to SRC, but took a couple weeks for it to be verified: https://www.speedrun.com/sweet_home/run/m3lpvoqm As it turns out, kill_me has been actively but quietly glitch hunting the game, with results that are... Staggering, to say the least. In short, board glitch corrupts memory a lot harder than I originally thought. I've learned a lot about the game by watching their runs and glitch videos, but as a result, TASing it got a whole lot more complex because of the sheer potential of the recent discoveries. kill_me's current record actually stands at 21:14, which I don't believe has been submitted to SRC, but it's the run I've been using as a guide for the current version of the TAS. I believe optimizing that route as much as possible would lead to a time around 11 minutes, but I feel like further exploration and rerouting could push the time down further, maybe even to sub-10... What I'm saying is that it could be a while before a new submission from me, but good lord is it gonna be a good one if it comes. I've elected in advance to co-author kill_me on it. Hold me to that.

My optimistic goal of having something drafted before May wasn't exactly realistic, but I feel like everyone's on board enough with the general idea that a final draft can be made and pushed over to the site devs real soon. Shouldn't take long from here. Thanks for weighing in, everyone!

Yeah, buddy, I'm gonna have to ask you to not talk to staff that way. EDIT 2: Apology accepted, thanks for owning up to it c: I've reworded this post to be more informative and less defensive as a result. EDIT: BizHawk 2.8, which is the version stated in the submission text as being used for the run, does not give the cycle count error, so the file doesn't need to be replaced as 2.8 should be what's used for the publication.
