You should probably cite that rule as well, then, instead of just the one that was added literally hours ago. It would make more sense and it wouldn't sound unfair.

So the movie was rejected for a rule that didn't exist at the time the run was submitted?

Saturn support is being added to Mednafen, with the latest update to the core being earlier this month. Seems likely that core will get ported to BH once it's stable.

Smartest new submitter I've seen. Not even being sarcastic. If you want to keep your drive to TAS, don't even bother reading posts in submission threads from people without player scores, unless those people are named mklip2001 or Derakon, maybe a couple others I'm forgetting about. Most of the people who haunt submission threads with negativity and rule enforcement have never TASed and will never TAS, and thus they can safely be ignored since they don't know what the hell they're talking about. Submission threads generally get the highest volume of posters, which means they're going to be the most full of awful posters, so... Yeah, it may be a good idea to not take the threads too seriously. The best, most constructive and supportive feedback you're going to get is either in a game thread or just asking a TASer directly, with the latter being far more likely. Some of the site rules are badly explained and/or archaic, and I don't blame you or anyone else for not knowing or disagreeing with the rule that an easier difficulty cannot be used if it truncates the length of a game. The rule is referenced infrequently enough that Easy difficulty runs that skip content have been accepted and published before, and have had to be obsoleted by slightly less optimal harder difficulty runs in order to correct the mistake. I was a Judge for long enough to have memorized all the bad rules and the five good ones that I agree with, so if you're concerned about any upcoming submission of yours, you can always shoot me a PM and I'll answer any questions/concerns you might have. It sucks that this happened and that you got such a negative reaction out of it, but yeah please just ignore the assholes in the submission threads. There are plenty of people willing to give constructive and supportive feedback, sometimes they're just few and far between with all the awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful posters around here. Just don't let it get to you and keep TASing for as long as you're having fun with it. You've been making quality runs of underappreciated games (which are my absolute favorite things to see on the Workbench) and the site would lose something if you stopped submitting.

All the "This behavior is disrespectful for a staff member" bullshit that the community has pulled successfully 100% of the time, regardless of who they are, is starting to get on my nerves. Part of the reason why I stepped down is because I was tired of having to stifle my personality in order to evade people taking my words the wrong way and making complaints about me. Recent events like the "troll" incident, where damn near the entire administration tried to take me out behind the shed and put a bullet through my skull because I had the nerve to insinuate someone may be trolling while other people in the same thread were getting away with honest-to-God insults, have led me to believe that something is deeply wrong with the way the site handles forum moderation. Could the administration at least take a step back and look at both sides of the picture before blindly siding with the person they happen to like better? Or, y'know, on a site where community members have gotten away with racial slurs, misogynist ravings, blatant drama instigation, accusations of pedophilia, transphobia, homophobia, actively encouraging/celebrating/laughing at suicide/violence/rape... Perhaps "twat" isn't particularly offensive enough to warrant throwing Spike in front of the metaphorical firing line? Just a thought.

1. This is technically a 6 second improvement in in-game time, which is what nearly all Sonic TASes aim for. It's only pushed down to 3 frames because of a much longer bonus screen countdown in one stage. 2. One-frame improvements have been accepted in the past: [1330] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by klmz in 04:57.33 - Previous published run [1715] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by HappyLee in 04:57.31 - Current published run, only 1 frame faster What matters when judging an improvement is that there is at least some form of improvement in the gameplay, whether it's 1 frame or 10000 frames, and that the rest of the gameplay is at the very least of an equal level of tech quality to the previous run. I.E, you can't use a trick that saves 40 seconds, lose 35 seconds of that due to extremely sloppy play, and then submit it as a 5 second improvement. Any time lost in an improvement run, even if it means the improvement is "slower", has to be completely unavoidable. In this case, it's justified, because there's an unavoidable time loss (a longer score counter) directly tied to a gameplay improvement. Other cases where it's justified include more accurate lag/loading emulation (see roughly half of Alyosha's published NES runs) or the introduction of a mandatory BIOS screen (see most PSX improvements after BizHawk introduced the PSX core), or, heck, why not both: [1518] PSX Umihara Kawase Shun by Mukki in 02:10.23 - Original run [2962] PSX Umihara Kawase Shun by Samsara in 02:18.75 - Current published run: 12 seconds faster in-game time, but 8 seconds slower in real time due to the BIOS screen and more accurate loading Hopefully this makes sense.

Well, there's the more general purpose IRC Channel that you can connect to via browser. It's more full than the TASMania Discord channel and it's not strictly limited to NES, so you might have some more luck in there when asking about certain games. If you can get IRC working for you, I would recommend joining there as well. It may seem pretty silent at times, but if someone starts talking then people usually pop out of the woodwork and join in the conversation.

Hi, hello, welcome to the site! If you want to make friends, my recommendation is to join the IRC channel and/or join the (currently small, but super newbie-friendly) TASMania project that's attempting to get published runs for every NES game. Both are great for meeting people, getting instant feedback, and finding some suggestions on what games to run. Good luck, and I hope you stick around!

This, first and foremost. Given all you've done for the site in terms of PR and exposure and putting yourself out there for us, there isn't a single person here who would judge you for wanting a break, so your family's thoughts should always come before ours. If you do decide to attend, I could possibly help out with commentary if need be, though I don't know how much help I'd be apart from filling out the couch.

It seems to be the same as any other game like this with a text parser: It only checks for specific letters in a specific order, it doesn't check for complete phrases, meaning if you play around with spelling and dropped letters you can easily find acceptable phrases that are much shorter than the actual correct answer, i.e "AprilFol" as opposed to "April Fools Day". This is how runs like Family Feud and the other Super Jeopardy run were able to insert entire random phrases as answers: The parser would take something like... A PRIEST LEFT FOR IRELAND ...which isn't a funny phrase but then again I'm not a funny person, and it would detect... A PRIest LeFt fOr ireLand ...because it only checks for those particular letters being in that order. I guess since the topic's up, I never 100% agreed that all game show games should be banned for Vault, though it should still be fairly strictly judged. There would have to be heavy manipulation involved to get as short of answers as possible for each question (a few submissions, including the first Family Feud submission, have done this), as opposed to just nothing but menuing as fast as possible (which should always be rightfully rejected). We're allowing some sports games now under the same general sort of restrictions, I think it may be high time to consider what actually can and can't be TASed to the site's standards.

-How is the lag/graphical emulation on Bizhawk? Bizhawk doesn't work on my laptop so I couldn't test for myself. The lag/emulation issue was the only thing preventing me from finishing the gold gem run and making an improvement to the any% run
Seems completely okay to me, though I'm not aware of what the problem actually entails.
-Why the switch to J ROM? Faster text scrolling doesn't matter since the game pauses in-game timer during texts, and the real time frame count doesn't matter at all. Missing out on "Shake Shake!" is also a big let down.
Mistaken information on my part. I had a few vague memories of hearing how much faster (J) is, turns out I was just misremembering. Once I continue working on this after DTC6, it'll most likely be on (U).
-If you are making the switch to J ROM, there are version differences you can take advantage of. For instance in 1-01, right when you start the very first clancer that appears at 5 seconds during that Youtube video, he gives you a text bubble that you can freeze the in-game timer with, which isn't available in US (which means that you can save even more in-game time on that first level by talking to him.) That's one of the few documented thing I saw about regional differences, I'm sure there's many other undocumented ones, probably with positions of different enemies or addition/subtraction of enemies in stages.
I'll look into it further. If I find anything else like that, it might convince me to stick with (J) after all.

I usually recommend against SMW as a TASer's first project, but now I think it might actually be one of the better games to start with. The game has tons of trick/glitch documentation and a fairly large, active TASing community that can help you with whatever you need. Get in touch with Amaraticando or BrunoVisnadi, take a look through the (massive) thread for the game, and definitely look through the huge amounts of SMW documentation we have on the site. Best of luck!

Could you hack the SRAM for just a verification movie? I believe there was a precedent set a while back for using Action Replay on verification movies if all it does is unlock certain features of the game that cannot be accessed normally anymore, and I think this definitely counts. As long as the hacking does nothing but unlock that hunt (i.e, no stat hacking, a Judge would have to check for things like that) and the actual submission file does not use any cheats or hacking, it should be allowable.

It's not a glitch, it's an intentional set of level warps, which ultimately makes most of the run trivial. The submissions are still ineligible, as the first one is clearly suboptimal and the second one is a Moon goal for a Vault movie.

Discord's probably your best bet. I'd say a lot of teams are going to be using it. Might also be nice to just have a general DTC6 server for team management/discussion/trash talking/""""information sharing""""/etc.

Here's a fun video from the final stage that I meant to include with my submission text, but somehow forgot. I mean, I included almost literally everything else in existence in the submission text, how did I even manage to leave this out? Using throw displacement the right way: Link to video Kinda boring bonus video. A couple of wallflowers and a real rowdy boy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D0BSUU6Zs4

Trying 3D TASing for the first time with a quick test. Hardly optimized and I seriously doubt getting the boost from the water is done anywhere near optimally, but I guess it's fairly clean-looking so far. Sorry about the lacking video quality, haven't gotten my encoding setup back up and running yet. Link to video I mostly just did this to see how stable the game is and how stable TAStudio is with N64, and I can safely say both are pretty good, though I might actually turn this into a full project in the future if no one else does.

1. You probably want to post BizHawk related messages in the BizHawk subforum. 2. If I remember correctly, the Mac version of Bizhawk doesn't support SNES. Try lsnes instead.

It doesn't really matter if it's faster, since this isn't a Vaultable category and everyone seems to think there's no more entertainment in it. It's fine for RTA where they don't have distinct tiers or categories, but considering everyone seems to hate this new run, I would have to say that this new skip shouldn't be allowed.
