1. FFM was discovered after the TAS was started.
2. FFM doesn't save nearly as much time in 100% as it does in any%.
3. You absolutely can start TASes from SRAM here as long as you provide a verification movie that sets up the exact conditions you'll be using for the run. If no verification movie is provided, then we cannot judge the run, let alone verify that it is legitimate.
4. FFM in 100% would kill a lot of the entertainment value, I think. Part of the appeal of 100% is the actual collection of items and moves, not just having all the moves available from the start of the game and not having to bother with them. It wouldn't feel like a 100% to me.

We wouldn't be able to accept it anyway until the emulation improvements are merged into BizHawk proper. Custom builds are a no-go for publication as it's much harder to verify authenticity using an emulator build we know nothing about.

This submission:
My low-effort test attempt:
I'll keep testing, but this doesn't bode well for the rest of the submission. Even just watching the encode, I can see numerous moments where things could be done a few frames faster.

Do it before the run. I.E, have the cartridge loaded before you start the run, and leave it there until the run finishes. It's stable that way, unlike changing settings mid-run.

Plus, we can't actually judge the run without a verification file, as we would have no way of knowing the exact setup used for the run, and thus we wouldn't actually be able to play the submission, and thus we would reject the run because we can't verify it, and because it doesn't follow the site rules.
And keep in mind this strictly has to be a movie starting from power-on that achieves the exact state that the submission starts in. Providing just a save file is not enough, as we would not be able to conclusively prove that the save file is legitimate and unmodified.

It's probably an acceptable category, though I wouldn't count it as an any% run. Only way to find out if it's acceptable here is to finish it and submit it and see what the audience thinks, though.
Please though for the love of God make and provide a verification movie that sets up this glitch so we don't have another DKR shitstorm on our hands.

Since it's the vanilla contest, there won't be any groundbreaking new gimmicks within the levels themselves, just new presentations of old gimmicks.
This is exactly how I'm seeing it from the videos presented. I'm not really impressed.
If we're going to accept a new SMW hack on the site, it has to be significantly different from the other hacks and especially from SMW itself. If it just takes pure vanilla mechanics and redesigns levels around them, that doesn't feel like enough. It would've been enough before we had Super Demo World or TSRP2 or Kaizo 3, but at this point we're going to need more substantial differences. Changes in physics, ASM hacking, as much custom stuff as possible... Something more along the lines of the VIP series or Brutal Mario.
We may obsolete another hack with this one, however, if enough people argue (and we agree) that it does something better than one of the published runs, but that's going to be a real tough sell.

Like I said on Discord, the differences between Saturn's TAS and this one could easily be chalked up to emulation differences. Looking back, he made his TAS on a completely deprecated and unacceptable version of Snes9x due to how inaccurate and garbage it is (I thought it was at least 1.51, but nope, 1.43). No matter what happens in terms of losses compared to Saturn, his run as a whole is still 100% invalid in our eyes, enough so that comparisons probably wouldn't even be made at all during the judgement process. If you have to sacrifice a few frames for something, it's not a problem at all.

This period of time is used for voting, right?
In a way, yes. The 3-day grace period gives runs a chance to collect feedback before being able to be judged, which helps inform the Judges and ensures they're not making any hasty, biased decisions. Voting can still happen as long as a run is on the Workbench, though.
Generally, long Wii/GC runs are unstable and require a lot of effort, so we're not exactly jumping at the chance to be able to judge them. It's much more efficient in the long run to take care of the easier submissions first.

- Why "aaa"? If it's intended to show up as the first files, "_console_.avs" and "_handheld_.avs" would look better imo.

Thanks for the report! OP updated with the download and new info. Also going to move this to the Encoding subforum (with a shadow topic here) just for more visibility or something, I dunno.

How do we all feel about the categorization of this run? The RTA community separates this route/glitch as "any%" while still having a Grant path category for runs like the published run. Should we do the same, or should this obsolete the published run? From what I've seen, the consensus seems to be leaning toward new category (and I'm starting to agree, though that would make 5 distinct runs of this game which is pushing it a bit IMO), but some more feedback would be appreciated.

I've uploaded a 7z of my (cleaned up) MeGUI folder that should, in theory, be completely set up to do temp encodes straight out of the gate.
Instructions:
1. Unzip the folder somewhere
2. Edit one of the two included AVS files (aaa-consoletemps or aaa-handheldtemps) to point to a video of your choosing. AvsPmod is included, but you can technically use any editor you like.
3. Open MeGUI, click and drag the AVS file in.
4. AutoEncode, should already be on No Target Size (Use Profile Settings) so just click through
If this works, I'll add it to the OP and rewrite the guide to surround it. Should solve all of the link/codec/actual effort problems that are currently plaguing the guide.
EDIT: you know adding the link might help, samsara
