The first thing I'll be doing upon its release is verifying that completing the game is possible with no problems. After that, I'll begin the TAS proper.
As a wise, orange soda loving man once said: "Aw, here it goes!" I may not actually get around to doing this until August or September, but it's definitely happening now that BizHawk 1.11.0 is released. Life is good. Let's make this happen.

As far as I'm aware, only Snes9x 1.43 is completely deprecated and not accepted by the site anymore. The Emulator Resources page is in dire need of an update.

Checking in nearly a month later! I'd have a WIP but I ended up finding a pretty substantial improvement and now I have to resync pretty much half of what I completed I'm lazy. Also that "improvement" ended up making the facehugger fight about 200 frames longer, cancelling out not just the improvement itself but the entire rest of my savings. ...On the plus side, I don't have to redo the entire movie anymore! On the minus side, I still had to redo the facehugger fight. On the plus side, the facehugger fight actually looks good in this version! I'm around 2.5 seconds faster than Diman in comparable areas up through Stage 3. I'm going for the two secret stages and the "best" ending in this run, so this run will be ultimately be a few minutes slower than the published run... But 99% of the published run's route will be in this one. I think maybe 2 rooms in Stage 7 are omitted, and one of them is a direct copy of a room in Stage 3. So there's that. I'll try to have this out by the end of the month, by which I mean I'll procrastinate until the 30th and then finish it all and submit it on the 31st. Then maybe I can get back to other, more interesting projects! EDIT: On second thought, I'll probably have this submitted tomorrow. Maybe later tonight, but most likely tomorrow. Actually most likely still on the 31st because all the rest of the stuff I have to do is about 3-4 minutes of trying to make this game entertaining and that's about as fun as it sounds.

Do you honestly think that he would have minded? Do you honestly think that he would have felt insulted at the idea of people discussing video games in memory of his passing? Are you completely seriously saying that mentioning one particular video game is "as disrespectful as one could get"? I don't think it's me who is insulting his memory, and his love for video games.
Are you really so narcissistic that you have to defend the fact that you, specifically, came into this thread just to talk about yourself? A great man has tragically passed, and all of your posts have been "Look at my blog! I played the Talos Principle, what a great game! You know, I love video games, I've been playing them all my life..." I'm sure he'd just be pleased as punch to learn that someone out there is selfish enough to use his passing as nothing but an excuse to talk about themselves for a bit. It doesn't matter that Iwata loved video games. That doesn't magically give you or anyone else the right to try to turn this thread to themselves. I mean, at the very least, can you try to connect the conversation to Iwata? "Video games" in general is too tenuous of a connection to really defend. He was the CEO of friggin' Nintendo, you have an entire company's worth of games to talk about in here. There's a small place in this thread for talking about your own experiences, certainly, but that doesn't mean it's a dumping ground for anything video game related. If you haven't caught my subtlety, then let me just be blunt: Find a different thread to talk about this. Start one if you have to! If you're really so inspired to talk about video games, you have a near-infinite amount of places to do it! This is just not one of them.

Turning a celebration of a wonderful man into "Hey, did you guys know I bought The Talos Principle!?" is about as disrespectful as one could get without outright insulting Satoru Iwata himself. Talk about that game all you want anywhere else. This isn't - and won't ever be - the place for it.

Thanks, I am a bit concerned about collabs if everyone else uses Mupen. Do you any thoughts on that?
Well, I mean, you don't have to join collaborations... Most of the people submitting to this site will be using BizHawk, anyway. I guess it wouldn't hurt too much to pick up Mupen if you plan on collaborating with people a lot, since SM64 is one of the few games that works well in Mupen... But, I think the key thing about BizHawk is that learning it now will be far more beneficial if you decide to continue TASing N64 games in the future. Mupen hasn't changed for nearly a decade and won't ever change in the future. BizHawk will continue to get better and better with each passing day, especially if more people start using it, making feature requests and reporting bugs and working with the devs... So I guess my advice is to just stick with BizHawk and only use Mupen for those aforementioned collabs, if at all. If you're going to branch out into anything that isn't SM64, then absolutely stick with BizHawk and don't even bother touching Mupen.

In my mind, you're already skipping unnecessary rooms with warp glitches, so it makes sense to skip unnecessary bosses as well. The next WIP is going to be insane with the Giant Bat soul... I can't wait to see it!

Sonicpacker, I apologize for making that snide reference to you in the OoT thread and that very oblique sorta-reference to you earlier in this thread. I honestly didn't mean it too negatively, but I will admit it's hard for me to refer to you in a positive way. You win. I'll stay out of your business from now on. No more fullscale arguments or subtle references or anything in-between.

But yeah since Biz is (WAY) more accurate than mupen, I guess we're using Biz time. I'm just hoping someone knows how to transfer inputs from m64 to biz file (bk2 iirc)
Excellent. Now if only a certain other person in this subforum could follow your example and switch to Bizhawk... I think you can use Bizhawk to convert the m64 file to bk2, but you'd still have to resync it manually after that. I can say that in my experience resyncing an old run to a Bizhawk bk2, I've only ever had to add in and delete frames everywhere due to lag changes, but I'm not sure if that'll work with a more complex game/console. It might just be easier to start a new bk2 rather than trying to salvage the m64.

We spliced it because it was impossible to record in in one go. We had to do a few TAS files? Because it desynced very often. And yes, some savestates were wrong as you noticed, but none of these change anything in the gameplay. It's also a few seconds slower.

Any links to these new glitches? Also, thread necroing is totally fine here. Appropriate even, if I'm remembering this game correctly.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I was thinking about it from the same perspective as one would splice a realtime run.
