I'm not that great with memory addresses, myself, but I can share what I've gathered about X/Y position. I'm assuming it's no different than NES or SNES. If it is, then disregard this post. Maps are more or less made up of several screens the size of the console's resolution. In the GBA's case, it's 240x160. Your X and Y coordinates refer to your character's position on a specific 240x160 screen within the map. An X/Y position of 0/0 is the center of that particular screen, so in theory X position should never be above 120 or below -120, and Y position should never be above 80 or below -80. Someone more knowledgeable of the subject should fact check me on all this, since I've never searched for addresses on GBA.

I tend to, more or less subconsciously, completely ignore the "sticky" threads at the beginning of a thread list. This is perhaps because, quit ironically, they seldom contain interesting information (although in some cases they might.)
I think I can expand upon that psychology a little bit. When you browse a forum, you usually look for the posts you're interested in that people are actually replying to. Sticky threads... are almost never like that. For the most part, sticky threads tend to be "read once, then forget" topics, like forum rules or announcements, basically anything the mods/admins want people to see before anything else. They're not dynamic, not many people reply to them (as they're usually closed), and you don't gain anything new from going back and rereading them, so the natural outcome of doing that over an extended period of time is that you just subconsciously jump past those threads as you're expecting them to all be the same "FORUM RULEZ PLZ READ!!!" across every forum you visit. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of other people like that on any forum. I tend to only look at new posts, myself, so I'm a little blind to almost every other thread until there's new content or I gain an interest in said topic and look up the thread on my own.

As an aside, how do you guys normally go about finding glitches? I mean honestly. They seem like arbitrary actions that happen to work somehow. Is there like a list of common glitch mechanics that you work with?
Every glitch or speed trick I've found has been... pretty much by accident, just randomly trying things in different places and suddenly something new and weird happens. In my experience, the less you look for glitches at first, the more you'll find.
Also, after looking through the forums a bit, is it not normal to play a game 1 frame at a time when you're TASing it? I thought that's how you knew it was fastest is that every frame is perfect...
Generally, when you're finalizing a run, you'll want to do it one frame at a time. When you're route planning or making an initial unoptimized test run, it's less important to use frame advance as long as the final submitted run uses it extensively. Like CoolKirby said, it's essential for speed.

Your system specs are okay. The framerate isn't really an issue, since when you're TASing you'll be working primarily frame-by-frame anyway. TAStudio is also still in beta at the moment, so I wouldn't rely on it for working until it's more "official".

Getting the fastest car in the game requires you to beat the adventure mode first but I'm not sure a newgame+ run is allowed in TAS?
NG+ runs are acceptable as long as you provide a verification file. Just record a second input file of beating adventure mode, make sure it syncs, then start from there when you do the run proper.

It may be a bit late for Worst Looking TAS of 2011... If a new tier is going to be considered specifically for non-entertaining board games, couldn't we use that as an excuse to change the tiering system altogether? I could see non-entertaining board games being part of a new tier as long as there's more substance to it than just that, like the oft-proposed Demo tier, but having a tier dedicated specifically to just board game TASes makes absolutely no sense to me.

Okay, I admit that the previous post may be a bit unfair to Samsara as the one frame improvement was made by trivially moving the last line of the input up one spot where Kuros still would gladly fire his weapon and defeat the last elemental of the fight. Thus it was a trivial adjustment.
Two can play at that game! User movie #20343166755079523 The third to last shot was done a frame earlier, with some very minor modifications to the input to make everything work again.

User movie #20320707903080519 Alternate strategies weren't working out for me, so I just made a couple small modifications to rchokler's last file and improved it by 13 more frames. E: To clarify, it's still mostly rchokler's input, I just changed the final hit slightly.

Someone should TAS Notte Luminosa, then claim they're going to die of leukemia in two weeks to get people to vote yes during the submission process.

I should have an HD temp encode up within an hour or so if another encode doesn't pop up in the meantime. EDIT: Link to video There we go. HD is done. 60FPS is done as well if you view it on Youtube.

Only the really popular runners or overhyped games get a lot of feedback. For the most part, you're just going to have to make do with a couple comments from the people who watch every run and the judge weighing in whenever they have the time. It's better than nothing.

I'm encoding this WIP as well (with more fades). I'll edit it into this post once I get it finished and uploaded, which should be about an hour from now. EDIT: This starts where the previous WIP leaves off: Link to video

You get limited when you submit at least three shoddy, low effort, time-wasting TASes within close proximity of each other, which is exactly what you did. I have yet to see a limited user lose their rank, since I'm pretty sure it requires producing WIPs that are actually really good and well-optimized and the people who usually get limited never learn from their mistakes. So learn from your mistakes. And maybe cut down on the thread-spamming. Please cut down on the thread-spamming.
