wow, im actually disappointed I didn't think of that one lol. would have been cool, had no idea it was possible though
You would need the deku shield and to buy it you'd probably need the sword (or do some insane rupee manipulation), which would slow you down a little in botw, as you'd have to do the text-method of blank-A. But it should still come out way ahead. Especially considering that you can do a few slides as kid with the shield.

Um, my understanding is that the vault is only allowed to hold the current fastest any% and 100% runs, and that other categories have to be sufficiently entertaining for moons or else can't be formally accepted...
Maybe I'm misinformed. I always thought it was the other way around. The vault being for weird categories and stuff.

My Ninjaedit wasn't fast enough, it seems. In fact I can only think of one (the other ones, I have to confess, had slight problems): You get the hookshot as a child. That way you don't have to go back all the way through Kakariko as an adult. Getting into dampes grave as a kid can be done in ~3 chus.

Voted yes, because this shit is very entertaining. But the run should probably be vaulted for obvious reasons. Also the optimisation wasn't that great and I could see possible improvements in the route. (In fact I can think of multiple routes faster than this one, but nobody asks me anymore)

I watched the run, and I saw some stuff I've never seen before. No parts of the run come to mind that look like they could've been done by a player (if only because the map keeps turning on and off at an alarming rate).
Then you should really watch ZFGs speedrung: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lY6IRd53HI It has all the stuff, minus annoying map spam.

But yeah since Biz is (WAY) more accurate than mupen, I guess we're using Biz time. I'm just hoping someone knows how to transfer inputs from m64 to biz file (bk2 iirc)
There is a covnersion script that comes with bizhawk. It doesn't work with the Zeldas, but afaik it works perfectly fine with SM64

All you guys advocating for Bizhawk, go and annoy MrGrunz for a bit. ;D

The more apt comparison would be the newest Firefox and Internet Explorer 6. But ofcourse, you can use whatever you want.

I wonder if BizHawk emulates PUs correctly.
Does mupen? If so bizhawk probably does, if not... maybe. (mupen+ is slightly better bout emulating stuff)

Still awesome, MTA.

How do you even finish a run without an uninterupted m64
By splicing the video. ZFG found quite a few places where it was obviously spliced (for the 100% run).

why is it that people don't want to submit their runs here? To me it seems like TASvideos must be doing something wrong, scaring away people from submitting runs
I still don't think they have an uninterrupted m64, which makes it impossible to submit here.

So from what I can see gonetz doesn't want to use per game hacks, which is certainly nobel, but also means that there are multiple pages upon pages of bugs. I kinda doubt that this will ever be in complete working condition.

Just press Z every other input frame for z-sliding and alternate between foreward and bacward on the analog stick every other input frame for a-slides.

Pretty much all the sidequests have items you need to get. But checking all the things in the bombers book would mean to talk to a bajillion people, which is often not necessary to actually do the quest.

There isn't a 100% route. If there was, the bombers notebook content wouldn't be part of it.

Just a quick question: Fox's current MM TAS syncs in every version from 1.8.0 (first with Jabo, which he is using) up to 1.9.3, but it immediately desyncs at the start in 1.9.4. Is that to be expected or is it a bug? Ofcourse I know there is no guarantee that a TAS will sync on a later version of an emulator, but since very little was changed between the versions it seems a little odd.

Do you even know why people don't bother to change to bizhawk? TAS input is more clunky
In what way?
savestates are slower
That was fixed ages ago.
memory addresses are different
Considering mupen doesn't have a memory viewer and mhs takes the programs RAM into account that is to be expected. You can however convert the adresses pretty easily using some math.
and most games aren't more stable than on mupen (glitches still occur on both emulators).
A lot of games are actually a lot less prone to desyncing, including OoT and MM.
Looks like most people that wishes N64 TASers change to Bizhawk haven't tried using the emulator lol.
Looks like you have no idea what you are talking about lol.

We don't have to use bizhawk or upload our m64 file.. these insults are totally unnecessary
Bizhawk doesn't have m64 files. Also it wasn't an insult, just and observation. The video is spliced, as in not recorded in one go. Now, if there is an uninterrupted m64 I can't say. Even if there wasn't, I don't see that much wrong with it, as stopping and redoing is what a TAS does anyway, but you couldn't submit that here. If there is an uninterrupted m64 of the any%, why not upload it? I'd like to watch it in mupen.

Maybe you mean all the desyncs.. they are annoying of course but we'll continue using mupen no we didn't , but we don't know if we're gonna publish it here
Why wouldn't you?
The any% TAS looks very spliced to me. I doubt a whole m64 exists for it and that probably goes for the 100% TAS, too. Ofcourse here you can't publish without a movie file.

Not quite sure what your first problem is. For your second, you can zero the analog-part of the virtual pad by right clicking into it. Not sure if there is a keyboard shortcut.

Z-slide ? A-slide ?
Both possible in RTA. Z-slides are quite often used (although maybe not as much today anymore, not really up to date). Ofcourse they can't be used for long, but can be used to keep momentum for a while. But most importantly, they are both documented on ZSR.
Also the wrong warp chus% is not really "possible" in RTA I think there is a way to get fire arrows in deset colossus thanks to GIM (by humping the silver gauntlets chest) but you have to do a crazy long hover with a guay this is just not possible in RTA, literraly.
You can just hover to the chest with explosives. Not sure what the wrong warp in chus% is. I don't follow categories nobody runs. But usually things are possible, just too hard to consistently pull off. Doesn't mean they aren't documented and some day it won't become the new standard. A lot of things thought to be impossible became standard later on.
Also I think there is a wrong warp that is TAS only ? I saw a vid of it in fire temple and this is used in ganonless TAS I guess.
Guess you got me there. You don't have to use OI (which requires a bottle) or a text box (which required downA and swordless) if you press B every other frame for a certain amount of time. It's something that RTA can't do. But even that could be documented on ZSR if somebody were to post it there. And since everybody can get editing privilages there, you guys have only yourself to blame. ;p

There aren't any. Zelda runners are fucking insane with the grinding things out and setups. A TAS will rely more on explosives and pull off things a lot quicker, which might change routes, but general tricks and strats are the same. I mean for example, I think for an all dungeons TAS it would be better to pull off the redead BK skip in shadow temple seen in swordless' TAS (combined with the new ledge clip BK skip, for shorter however), instead of burning eyeballfrog for a WW to Bongo, and then use eyeballfrog to warp to the credits (that is only one point where abeshi's route falls short). But that is still all using tricks and strats RTA uses, too. It's just not worth the risk and time it would take for RTA (until somebody gets really crazy and then everybody will do it). There is one thing I can think off in MM that RTA can't pull off, to my knowledge, but that's about it.

Well updating all of that would take forever. Somebody should probably set a Link to ZSR there, but why don't you do that? ;)

If that's the case, can you please update the game's resources page please?
Don't use the resource page as reference. It calls superslide teleport "air warp" and taking recoil from a bomb in the air to gain some distance "mid-air bomb jump". It's not a jump and ss teleport doesn't just work to get you in the air. And those are only two examples. Basically all the names on there are wrong. o.O Anywho, ZSR might not be the most up to date site, but it's a lot better than the resource page.

His TAS is setting a new standard. I hope Abeshi submits his run here
Actually, in this case I do too. The quality of his play isn't the best, especially when it comes to manipulating things and I noticed 1-2 tricks he didn't incorporate, but this is still a reasonably good TAS overall and we don't even have an all dungeons TAS on this site. The route is an issue, as Grunz mentioned. I can think of multiple routes that would be faster. But oh well... In this case I actually wish Swordless would come back and TAS something. He talked to me a few months ago and asked me for an MST route, but sadly he never contacted me again afterwards.

There is a ~3 pixel wide gap in the collision there. He targeted just in the right spot so Link jumped over it, instead of just walking over. I bet with blank A you could just fall through. Looking around, forest temple is kinda shoddily designed all around. A few gaps in the collision here and there, lots of oob floors, etc.
