Why are cancelled submissions counted as gruefood? Shouldn't that be preserved for rejected ones?

I have never voted yes on a Metroid 2 submission, because I dispise the game, and I'm always bored when watching it. But I actually enjoyed this, and that's saying something. :) Yes vote.

I suspect it wouldn't. By the time I get there by going the intended way, the spikes would already be up. Mario sinks very slowly.

I just realised I haven't commented on this yet. It is indeed a masterpiece in luck manipulation. You make some very interesting choices throughout the run that really makes it stand out. :) Good job!

I really like the idea. We have at least 8 or 9 very good SM64 TASers here. Competing against eachother can only lead to better results, as you are always trying to get the best time yourself. It'd be lika a running competition, with the prize for each star being pride for having the best time (like all TASes aren't already, but you get the point).

Note that none of these movies will sync in the current, released version of gens, due to changes in the nature of the CD emulation between the time they were made and the present.
I see. I take it this was a while ago, then? Guess I got my hopes up of nitsuja returning a bit too quickly there. :(

There were definitely many timesavers that I hadn't thought of in this run, and many were very well executed. I had actually tried the enemy jumps in that room in 2-2, but I didn't succeed. This is a clear yes vote.

As far as I'm aware, no one is doing the run at the moment. There is no need to ask for permission to do a run anyway, just do it if you want to. If you seek the experience, it doesn't matter how optimal or close to perfect it is, right? In any way, I'm very interested in it, so go right ahead, no one is stopping you.

So I'm told. But comparing the youtube video to my memory of the previous run, I simply don't see it. And I don't like the game enough to watch the old one to refresh my memory. This movie's Bowser in the Fire Sea route is not memorable to me either. It doesn't help that the route in the first half or more of the level is 100% identical to the old version (I'm told). And so, not seeing any glaring amazing obvious differences between this one, I voted "meh" to the idea of it obsoleting the currently published movie.
I would understand your vote if you didn't actually like the game, and you thought it shouldn't be published at all because the game sucks. But this? You don't notice a 5+ sec improvement in a 5:30 video. You vote "meh" because you didn't see the difference. So what?! It's faster, what else do you need? It seems you have no grudge against the game itself, so what's the matter? If you can't spot the improvements it means you just don't know enough about the game. "Yeah I didn't like this run because I didn't understand what you did in it so I won't vote yes" This is what you're doing.

Nice improvement! Props for finding so many small timesavers. However I didn't like the camera angles in BitDW and BitS, where you don't let the viewer know where you're going. In such a fast paced game that SM64 evidently is, the viewers want to know what's going to happen next. Yes vote for huge improvement anyway.

The third game doesn't allow you to keep momentum when jumping. I only played the first level, but it was incredibly boring to watch even an optimised movie of it. I don't think it's TASing material, but go ahead and try it out. EDIT: Also probably the best set of screenshots I've ever seen from NesVideoAgent.

You can just move the window offscreen and it'll stop bugging you. Seriously guys, think outside the box
That doesn't prevent it from automatically resetting your computer after X minutes, so it is not really a solution.
I has never resetted automatically when I've moved it to the corner of the screen.

This happened to me too. I was amazed everytime a 5-year old spoke English. You barely expect words to come out of their mouths, and they speak your own second language, it's facinating.

Shits and giggles? I beg to differ, the run is ~6 seconds shorter because of this.
I am just going to say that I don't think anybody considers this a "shortcut" that was removed from the US; I think that was made with things like Rygar (which had a huge warp glitch in only one version) in mind. I don't see how saving 6 seconds because of a shorter animation is any different than saving 6 seconds by, say, a shorter conversation with Dr.Light or whatever. You're not actually doing anything to save time other than loading a different ROM. But that is my opinion and I am not a judge, so take it however you want. (Printing it out and using it as a ball for trashcan basketball is always an option.)
I personally have no problems with anybody using a J ROM as long as it's faster, in any way. Though I do understand why people dislike the usage of a J ROM if it only makes conversations faster, as you might want to read the conversation, right? Though in this case, I don't understand it at all. It actually removes a sprite movement which isn't important at all anyway. It also further strengthens that it is a TAS doing impossible actions, as it's virtually impossible to do on a real Gameboy (it has to be frame perfect, with many button combinations).

So you think it's worth taking a few random battles to get good chips? Won't that be hell, deciding what chips to get from what battles? Also, how do you go about manipulating chips and random battles? In my test, I didn't fight one random battle, but that was achieved through letting go of the running button a few frames, taking a slower route and such. For manipulating chips on the boss, I just delayed the fight a few frames, but I didn't get any kind of perfect setup. There is nothing to compare to, so it's kind of hard to know when you've got an acceptable chunk of chips.
