No, it's my fault. I completely ignored the fact that the submitted movied didn't feature the GB BIOS. And since I doubt anyone will ever beat this, we'll have a GB publication forever without BIOS. Great job, me.

After having watched both this and #6688: ThunderAxe31's NES Angry Birds (Nice Code) in 07:51.21, since we accept bootlegs to Vault based on game quality, I think it will be a good idea to prefer this Angry Birds game to all other "versions" of it that exist for NES. What do you guys think?
What if I submitted only the lower quality game? Would you have accepted it without issues and then obsoleted after that I submitted a movie made with this higher quality game? These are two different games, not different versions of the same game, so I think we should consider them independently. I don't see why quality should be considered in relation of existing games. I agree when it's done for ROM hacks, because we can obsoleted different ROM hacks to each other, but it's not the same for actually different games, especially in Vault. We can't obsolete with a different game just because the game used in the previous publication is lower quality. So I think we should judge each game for their own qualities, and see if it meets our agreed borderline for quality. I'm not sure if the lower quality game is good enough, but either way it will either be judged in base of precedents or set a new standard.

I wrote the post from the first quote after writing the post from the second quote. The fact is that I changed my mind and started considering much more the idea of suggesting a restraint for GBCinGBA, and the reason why is explained in the first quote: GBCinGBA should ideally (correct me if I'm wrong) use something like Vivid palette, in order to get closer to what GBC games do look when played in a GBA SP/GBI, which could potentially make movies less enjoyable to watch. That's why I started considering again the idea of limiting GBCinGBA to Moons&Stars, despite the fact that I previously given up after the first time my idea was deemed unnecessary. Edit: ...I've changed my mind again. Thinking about it again, if a game results less enjoyable to watch due to usage of GBC colors for a GB game, it's a matter purely about entertainment, which should be decided by the audience, not the rules. On the other hand, I still think that GBCinGBA should use a palette relative to GBA appearance, not GBC.

By the way, I already used Pokémon Puzzle Challenge as an example of a GBC game that looks particularly bad with Vivid palette, and thus would also look bad in a GBA SP or GBI. Now I also have an example of a GB game that looks especially bad in GBC, due to the developers not taking in account the different color of background and sprite tiles in GBC, probably because GBC wasn't yet commercialized at the time.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to imply that it would be perfect. I just wanted to say that Vivid would be at the very least more appropriate than the other currently available GBC palettes, for the GBCinGBA mode.

Uhm, now that I think about it... Everything we said here doesn't apply if we're playing a game in GBCinGBA mode, since that literally means that GBA (or GBI) is the hardware that it's being emulated, and the palette used should reflect that... Right? And the objectively correct palette for GBCinGBA mode is Vivid, as it reflects to what we already use for GBA movies. Since the Vivid palette can potentially make some GBC movies less appealing (see Pokémon Puzzle Challenge), I think that we should allow GBCinGBA only for Moons and Stars movies, unless that mode is being used for accessing GBA-only content (see Wendy: Every Witch Way) or if the game has a built-in color adjustment logic (see Harry Potter). EDIT: Actually, that makes things worse, as the GBC games that adjust colors for GBA are actually taking as refer the original GBA only, as opposed to the later commercialized GBA SP that featured a backlight that improved brightness. So, I my opinion, GBCinGBA should still not be allowed for Vault if it accesses purely aesthetic routines only.

As I wrote, "let's see what the publishers think about it". Since the movie labeling is up to the publishing policies, I try to avoid handling it unless the correct label is particularly obvious.

I think the branch label should be: "Blast from the Past, 100%" but let's see what the publishers think about it.

While the in-game title is just "Angry Birds", some multicarts refer to this game as "Angry Birds 3" in the game choice list. Not sure what's the preferred name for publication. Anycase, refer to this page for a better view of all game titles known for Angry Birds bootlegs on NES: Wiki: ThunderAxe31/NesAngryBirdsBootlegs

...Why DO some of the enemies randomly explode?
The enemies in level 2 explode when the game loads the "turret" enemy, because the game needs to use many graphic sprites for that enemy's bullets, and the Game Boy hardware can display up to 40 sprites at the same time. Well, the programmmers could have come up with some advanced techniques for overcoming this limitation, but it's clear that they preferred a simpler solution. Apart from that, there are other enemies dying due to landmines that explode because I stepped on them. In some cases this is unavoidable.

LOL EDIT: I figured I could improve boss of level 4 and 5... Could this submission be set to delayed please? I'm not sure when I will be able to provide the improved movie file.

Well, the objective isn't to match live photos, it's to match live eyesight, right?
Eyesight is subjective, misleading. I myself did mistakenly prefer VBA Accurate over Gambatte because it looked prettier, instead of trying to see which one was closer to reality. Confirmation bias at its finest. I'm really curious to know how the Gambatte developers did come up with their current palette. I wonder if they did practical tests on real hardware, and how.

speedrun.com mentions a password for saving 10 extra victims ( https://www.speedrun.com/zamn#1001 see rules for 100%) I need to know what exactly does this password and how would that allow to save 10 more victims.

Is GBC really only treated this way because it never got a backlit rerelease, and doesn't have a contrast option? Is there any other system encodes whose color data gets danced around?
Neo-Geo Pocket is a console very similar to Game Boy Color, under many aspects. However, that's much less widespread, so I guess it has been analyzed much less than any Nintendo hardware. It was never released in America. As for me, I didn't even once see a real NGP in my whole life, even though I live in an European country, Italy.

Yeah actually Vivid is terrible, I change my mind oopsies. Well, I think it looks really nice for Pokemon TCG in general, but, using that game's tans and oranges to compare the palettes was evidently too narrow-minded. The Pokemon Yellow title screen examples have really opened my mind.
I don't feel that Vivid is good for Pokémon TCG, maybe it doesn't appear so to you because it's a game that features small colored images only. Let's take a look to a particularly colorful game instead. I happen to own a copy of Pokémon Puzzle Challenge (USA version) and I was able to take a couple of photos. The photo quality was the best I could get by shooting them at 8:30 AM, with indirect sunlight. Note that even if you shoot your photo by having your Game Boy Color screen under direct sunlight, the colors won't get more vivid. Anyway, not that it could be considered as an ideal lighting condition, since that would burn the LCD screen. In the following comparison: a live photo (unedited), Gambatte palette, VBA Accurate palette, Vivid palette. Click for larger image. I don't know about you guys, but to me the Vivid palette does look not only far from reality, but also ugly to look at. The colours are so strong that it almost hurts my eyesight, so I really doubt that it's in any way remotely supposed to be like that. For the rest, VBA Accurate still looks the best to me.

Mothrayas: Also, cleared the rerecord count from the submission file (in order to be consistent with eliminating excessive bot rerecords from movie statistics). The original listed rerecord count was 6051845.
Then, I request to be replaced for displaying the rerecord count I accumulated before starting using bots: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/62496795844446116 This file also fixes some typos in the subtitles embedded into the movie file.

You can edit them during emulation. When you import it, first time you open a ds game it will ask you to set all the things during emulation
I don't see why the user shouldn't be allowed to set it before starting emulation, just like DeSmuME allows. Imagine if someone needed a specific "Message" or "Language" setting for a TASing strategy, that means that they would have to use DeSmuME instead than BizHawk because it would save time in the TAS execution. We really want BizHawk to provide as much features as possible, if these are useful for TASing and accurately emulating the original console.
