That being said, TASVideos is not the community for this game and shouldn't have to accommodate the way we've done things historically, for obvious reasons.
Here, we usually consider as baseline a TAS that beats the game by playing it in the most common way, which usually is avoiding the use of a particularly powerful glitch. On the other hand, if a TAS manages to skip more than half of the game through the use of glitches, it needs a label. The reason why we handle it this way, is because we need to make the goal of the movie quickly understandable for the most casual audience. Also, we want to treat everyone equally by applying an universal policy, without double standards. Otherwise, it would lead to impossible-to-solve disputes about "why did you do X for Y and not Z for W?", unless we want to give absolute freedom to branch labelling and allowing people to label their movie goal with something completely arbitrary, like "helloword%" or "amogus".

The "beat Ganon" speedrun of this game is very unpopular because it is essentially the exact same run except you wrong warp to the final boss instead of the credits. It's mostly uninteresting, is not unique, and is simply longer. I do not anticipate any TAS would ever be submitted that would ever adequately fill a branchless role except maybe a glitchless TAS if that ever happened?
But of course, we don't do things like that here. Here, we try to avoid publishing movies that are similar to each other, and we try to encourage diversity instead. In fact, we never published a new branch that isn't at least 50% different than any other existing branch, so I wonder how did you come to that conclusion. I think there is a misconception going on here. See, there is no necessary relation between how a branch is labelled and what is allowed. Ideally, we can publish any TAS that has enough different contents from existing branches, if it's enough optimized and entertaining. However, there are three kind of movie goals that are always accepted, even if they are not considered entertaining by the audience: * Fastest Completion (which applies to this submission) * No Major Skips (anything that doesn't use glitches that could skip more than 50% of the game) * Full Completion (max out in-game progress, without using ACE or otherwise corrupting the gauge) Interestingly, in the OoT3D speedrunning community there doesn't seem to exist anything that can be considered as No Major Skips. However, I have to note that the existing goals from there would be acceptable on TASVideos, as each one of them seem to be very diverse and entertaining. I'm not sure about NG+ and some Master Quest branches, but if you need to know for sure, we can look into it more in detail and see.

I've discovered that you can unlock the Director's Cut mode through an in-game cheat: on the ''select a slot'' screen, hold L and tap up, R, select, R, up, select, select. Source: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gba/589599-bruce-lee-return-of-the-legend/cheats This is allowed for submissions.

There is a minor emulation glitch I've noticed in Round 5. See the wire ropes that sustain the cable car? These are surrounded by those brown blocks due to an emulation inaccuracy. For some reason, at least one color in the relative tile palette is wrong. See this video for reference. Anyway, I can easily fix that with a Lua script if you want, in order to get a cleaner encode for publication. oh! btw the bosses dubbing is incredible!!! how did they do that??? oh!

Yes, there exist lots of problems just as you said. But I'm not that experienced to perform masses of TAS operations in that game. And more significant, almost every kung-fu skill takes at least 0.5s or even more, so many of them seemed to be like RTA. I made this record to see if anyone could carry out a better or an ultimate one. I suppose the limit to the Speedrun may arrive at an approximation of 23-24min recorded in gameplay.
I will take a deeper look at the TAS and see if there are more possible improvements. If the problem is present only in the first few fights, then the TAS is acceptable. However, if the mistakes are present in many spots across the movie, it will have to be rejected. Please wait for me to finish my judgement process.

Yes, VBA-rr should no longer be accepted. But, the same also goes for most older versions of BizHawk, and lsnes, if accuracy is the main deciding factor. Especially with 2.8, it seems time to deprecate most older BizHawk releases (and not just for GB/C.)
It makes sense, but it's not as simple. First of all BizHawk is a multi-platform emulator. Here we're proposing to ban VBA-rr, and it would be only for GB and GBC, because chances are that virtually everyone would agree, since last submission was from 7 years ago. First of all, it would be mandatory to maintain BizHawk 1.x versions for XP/32bit compatibility. And regardless, let's first see how it goes for VBA-rr. There is no need to rush about this, while on the other hand it would be wise to make sure we're meeting the user's necessities.

No, it's due the current publication not including BIOS emulation. Edit: uhm. I just checked my improvements, and the boss battle actually didn't save any frame compared to the published movie. I fixed the submission text.

As of 17.05.2022, VBA-rr is no longer allowed for GB/C publications. Original post: Note: This idea only regards Gameboy and Gameboy Color in VBA-rr. Gameboy Advance in VBA-rr will remain allowed regardless of this poll. Also, lsnes will remain allowed for GB/C submissions. Over the last years, GB/C emulation has gone through dramatic improvements, to the point that console verification has become a common thing for TASing GB and GBC games. This became possible thanks to the endeavors of the people behind Gambatte and GBHawk, of which some of them are also prominent contributors on TASVideos like TiKevin83, CasualPokePlayer, Alyosha. Especially today, with the release of BizHawk 2.8, we've achieved quite a milestone for GB/C, thanks to the accumulated improvements to emulation accuracy, the introduction of SameBoy core for GB/C, and some Lua support for Linux via Mono. On the other hand, VBA-rr hasn't got any update in 5 years. It's not able to produce any console verifiable movie due to its inaccuracy, to the point that can cause some glitches that don't happen on real hardware. The movie timing reported is always wrong because of inaccuracy of loading times. The audio emulation is noticeably bad. It doesn't emulate real time clock properly. It doesn't emulate GB and GBC BIOSes. It doesn't have piano roll functionality (TAStudio or TAS Editor) while instead both BizHawk and lsnes do. There are more issues I can't remember right now, and probably even more on top. Last GB/C submission with VBA-rr was from 7 years ago, but I wonder if anyone is still using it today for TASing. Do you know of anyone? Or do you think there is any reason why anyone could be still needing it? Did anyone ever use VBA-rr on Linux? From what I could gather, the reason why there are still some people using VBA-rr for GBA TASing today, it's because they can't use BizHawk, due to having very old PCs. But that should never become a problem for GB/C TASing, as there is still lsnes as an alternative available for that, which also works on Linux. While I consider console verification to be a staple on TASVideos, everyone in the staff agrees that any decision about this matter should be up to the community. So vote, share your opinion, ask questions, and discuss about anything that you think about it!

Due to a 400 error, I lost my post, so pardon me if I'll be short. Yes, any internet site can disappear any time. See what happened in Strasbourg: a fire physically destroyed a bunch of servers, effectively erasing from existence millions of web sites: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-france-ovh-fire-idUSKBN2B20NU Bobo, if your concern is about keeping an alternate download solution for accessing the video encodes, then Torrent is just not an option. We should rely on online services of some kind, most likely a paid cloud service. A free alternative would be to use those multiple site uploaders that store a file on 50+ different sites at the same time. Then we would need to make a crawler that keeps track of deleted links, in which case re-uploads the files... It would be quite some work, but it would make any file download constantly available for free. If instead your worry is about having a way of keeping backups, yeah Torrent may help, but only if there is at least one person keeping local backup of all video encodes, which would be about 600 GB, not counting mkv files and YouTube encodes. Anyone can do that if you have some bucks to spare for buying an extra memory storage.

At the very least we need to have a discussion with our community and staff about the ending in this movie, and potential future movies that don't reach the proper ending. I personally don't think that it should be freely allowed to save a fraction of time by disabling the ending sequence. If the run is well made, and there's enough support for the lack of ending, it could probably be acceptable as is if new movies of this branch include the proper ending. Opinions?
My opinion is that we should be a bit more flexible than how we used to be in the past. One common reason why outsiders complain about the site, is because of how we try too hard to force an universal approach despite some speedrunning communities having different standards.

I noticed tha ThunderAxe31 added branch label "2 players" with the game. So I wonder if it will be accepted if somebody submit a "1 player" TAS?
I don't know for sure. I added the branch label just because it's common practice to add players number in the label. See the obsoletion chain: Publication History of Rush'n Attack For the moment, "1 player" and "2 players" can coexist only if they are enough different for Moons. We're planning to eventually remove this limitation and make them acceptable for any case. "1 player" was accepted for Contra, but that was a fortunate case. For the moment I suggest to wait. We have a lot of other rule changes to do before that.

I've changed the branch label from "all mazes inbounds" to "in bounds, all levels", for standardizing. If anyone has any issues with that, please write a post so that we can discuss about it. In the meanwhile, I'm leaving here the link to the branch naming guidelines: Wiki: PublisherGuidelines#BranchName

ninespaces, do you agree to replace the submitted file with this one? Note that including the BIOS sequence is recommended, for being more faithful to the real console. The 200 extra frames aren't considered when comparing records.

Which BizHawk version did you use? Which SNES core did you set? If it's an emulation inaccuracy, we can ask the emulator developers to update the BizHawk cores. However, there is also a chance that this glitch is causing the game to read uninitialized RAM data, and use it for drawing the background graphics. Please try the same glitch again on console, and see if you get exactly the same glitched graphics or not. A glitch that reads from uninitialized RAM would be impossible to emulate accurately, as that would make emulation non-deterministic.

Another thing is that, there actually isn't such a thing as "all targets" for this game, as the amount of enemies spawned depends on RNG. Instead, we could talk about "maximum targets". I made a quick test to see if I could improve your movie, and I was able to spawn and kill 7 more enemies before passing through the second bridge, and I also did it faster than you: User movie #637779334293682349

All right, thanks for the explaination, CPP... By the way, I've just remembered that I've actually already found a workaround for the problem I've just mentioned. It's just that I had to sacrifice much efficiency for my script execution. But there are still some more improvements I can do with proper RAM hacking, I'll just have to find the right addresses. So, I guess we can already proceed about talking about the routing. At moment I'm leaning towards the idea o manipulating generation of multiple Frustration TMs in dungeon. This is going to require extreme luck manipulation, but the result would repay very well. Note that Frustration has been used in this speedrun: Link to video I need to figure out as many RAM addresses as possible, and the most knowledgeable person I can think of is TheZZAZZGlitch, but I couldn't contact him in any way. Can anyone help me? I tried on YouTube and Discord, but he didn't respond. He had some activity on his GitHub account last month, but I don't want to open an issue ticket just for asking him a question unrelated to his repositories. Does anyone have his email address? Or any other public account on which I can ask him? Meanwhile, I'll post here his video about Blue Rescue Team: Link to video

So, I've started TASing this game. I've picked up Blue Rescue Team because it loads dungeon floors much faster than Red Rescue Team, otherwise it's basically the same. Oh and the fact that the game screen is bigger makes it a little nicer. The stylus inputs don't seem to save much time for menuing. Here is my current WIP movie file: User movie #75972551996754762 And here is the Lua script I've made for bruteforcing floor layouts: User movie #76000472267214701 I've picked Totodile as player and Torchic as partner, as advised by AntyMew. So far I've only beaten the first dungeon. As you can see from the movie, I managed to spawn close to the stairs for all 3 floors of Tiny Woods, thanks to major RNG manipulation. The problem is that I couldn't use my Lua script for the second dungeon. For the script to work, it needs to overwrite the floor RNG value before that the game uses it for generating the relative floor. However, for the second floor, the game reads the value in the same frame that it has updated it. This is a problem, because BizHawk can write RAM values only at the beginning of a frame. Freezing the RAM addrasse with the cheat functionality doesn't help, because that does actually just overwrite the RAM value at the beginning of every frame, instead than actually preventing it from changing! So right now it looks like my script is unusable, unless BizHawk gets updated with a proper cheat functionality. Or if anyone has any alternative, it would really help!
