It doesn't seem right that Darkman425 just co-opted reirrab's work without any discussion. It's fine to suggest possible improvements to the run, but if not improving it won't cause a rejection then just let it stand as a possible improvement. Here's a post by DrD2k9 that I think perfectly demonstrates how this should've been handled. Post #520391

I ended up re-doing everything after the checkpoint twice. Found a total of 36 extra points! Hopefully now I can move on to Katina Link to video

That's why there would be a specific trigger to not require an input file (such as typing a specific word into the Branch label or checking a box). Even if for some reason a person did such a thing, it would be pretty easy to ask them to upload an input file. Any judge could then add it to the submission just like when anyone uploads an improvement after submitting. As you said, you're looking to make things happen by May (less than a week away now). Things can be changed down the line if it somehow becomes a real problem.

I love the idea of creating an Event tier and having it be an option on the submission page. I really don't think there's a need to give a special role for a user to be able submit them to the site. There's already ways to deal with people who spam/abuse the submission queue. As for actual implementation, typing 'Event' somewhere in the branch name could allow the submission without an input file (but maybe require a video link in the Embedded Video section). I don't know if that's a feasible option, but it seems cleaner than adding a checkbox or something to the submission page.

I really like these kinds of runs, but I’m curious why you let so many enemies escape

I stand by what I said in the Youtube comments; if it's not too much work, I'd change the ending to do Simian Acres Time Trial before Echo Marches Time Trial, so you get "Now go for Platinum!" and then the run can end on the final promotion to "You can stop now."
I love this game, but I always thought that final promotion was a huge let-down and I’m okay with it not being in the final encode.

Heh, this is a mixed bag and I’ll delve into it more later. In a nutshell, N64 emulation is not accurate.

You’re more than welcome to start the process. I fully intend to add submission notes. They should be up within the week.

I started working on a new route. This time I'm going through Meteo; and holy cow is this level ridiculous. It surpasses Aquas for difficulty, and it's putting everything I learned from my submitted run to full use. For a bit of perspective, Aquas took an entire month to complete, and this level took an entire month just to reach the checkpoint lol. The work is paying off, though. I'm 125 points ahead of the old TAS record. Here's progress so far up to the warp zone. (Video Deleted)

WarHippy, how exactly did you create the movie then?
At the end of the verification movie I right-clicked in TAStudio and selected Start New Project from SaveRam. I can't say exactly when I did it, but it was after the game looped back to the intro cinematic. I might've done it on the title screen. Frame 437265 or so seems to be the most likely candidate.

I'm pretty sure the boss will always drop 3 bombs.
Alright. I was thinking it looks almost possible to absorb and fire all 3 bombs without having to take damage (allowing for more damage boosts).

Looking great so far! I'm pretty unclear on what the benefit of getting the leaf is at 5:37. It doesn't seem like it makes you move faster. Is it the only way to destroy those blocks, and are you able to un-puff and run like normal? And also, does the boss not drop a 3rd bomb if you don't get to the first one fast enough?

You end up throwing away a lot of darts. Is there any level that would actually benefit from Unlimited Dart Mode?

The completed level. The starfish section was very rough, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Link to video Edit: Now with improvements

Progress on Aquas. I beat 'the next nearest TAS https://youtu.be/61JVe1yyy78 by 30 enemies. I’m up to the checkpoint so far, but I'm expecting a 505 since it seems pretty optimal after the checkpoint.

Wouldn't you run out of lives, anyway?
You don't have to use any tricks with self-destructing OR the checkpoint on those levels. On Solar the boss cycles through his series of attacks and movements. At one point in the cycle he sends a lava arc at you that can be indirectly hit for a +1 with each charge shot. Here's a video of someone getting 999 Link to video He was able to hit it up to 3 times per cycle, but I feel like a TAS has time to do 6 per cycle. The current record is 361 hits before the boss, so we'd need 638 more hits to max out. At 47 seconds per cycle it would take 102 cycles (or around 80 minutes) to get to 999.

The Discord link is now updated. Thanks for letting me know.

There are three planets where you can get infinite hits, but the score counter maxes out at 999. Those are Solar, Bose, and Venom 2 (Hard route) Solar is the only one where these extra hits are actually during the boss fight, and it's only 1 hit per boss cycle so this would take several hours to accomplish (which I have no desire to do).

Link to video Edit: Updated with improvements I'm pretty happy with the results so far. I've shattered all known TASing records for both Corneria and Sector Y. This game is delightfully nuanced, and I'm very glad it's not taking Too long to make progress. I can actually expect to finish it before the end of the year, lol. dont wanna be a spoilsport, but have you considered other possibilities like fastest gold medals?
Anything other than max score is pointless to me for a game like this (no pun intended).

im wondering if it has the possibility of dragging on, like the suicide you just did on the first stage.
It’s a few extra seconds, and it will be happening a couple other times in the run. Venom will possibly be a little long, but it’ll be fun to watch.

Currently tackling a maximum score run of this game. I've been working closely with the high score community (known as Hit+64). Feel free to drop into their Discord server and watch the progress! https://discord.gg/k2JnzC4 (Updated with boss entertainment Sep 2022) Link to video

And one more thing... Why is there always one extra frame when we delete the selected, it does not happens with FCEUX's TAS Editor, but in TAS Studio, we can't get our input on the last frame...
I used to be able to get rid of that frame in older versions of bizhawk, but I've been told that it does not count in the movie parser's calculations of your final time.

Hey there. So, while watching the video I felt that something was off about the statue fight. After messing around with it for a bit I managed to save 1 frame on the fight and then another 1 frame on exiting the room. And then I saved 2 more frames from lag management in the next room. https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/637843332967811119 It's such a small improvement that I don't think co-authorship is warranted. I just want what's best for the tas : )

I like having more options of being able to critique a movie, but I agree that there’s no particular value in the technical rating. I can’t recall a single movie that we’ve wanted published because it was so technically complex. Entertainment has been the driving factor in most of the site changes, so I agree that technical rating could go away.
