And naturally add "Does not Color a Dinosaur" to every movie...

Well, this is an interesting issue, and I tend to see both sides of the argument. As Warp (for example) mentions, games take real resources (time, money) to produce, and so those who expend those resources deserve to be compensated for their investment. On the other hand (as many have stated), games are expensive and I do not have an excess of money to spend on them. I like to think that my enjoyment of a game is at least a bit of repayment to those who have developed it, somewhat like the satisfaction I and others get by investing time to make TAS movies. Of course it doesn't take money to do that etc but I think the point stands. That said, let's look at the recent games I have purchased (or at least those I remember purchasing): World of Goo ($20) -- I have always enjoyed bridge building games, and there was a lot of positive press on this being both very well done and also being independent and not protected. I played through it once and my partner also enjoyed a couple of levels, which is of note as she is not much one for video games. Braid ($15) -- I decided to buy this for PC when it came out after playing the demo on a friend's Xbox (and perhaps also because like World of Goo it had positive press relating to gameplay and being independent). I still have not beaten it, due to a combination of not being smart and also it not running terribly well on my sort of old PC (I do have vague plans of beating it someday; I have done about 75% of the levels and enjoyed them). Audiosurf ($10) -- I got this after it was mentioned on these very forums. It was fun and the price point was right. I don't play it any more, but maybe I will someday. But, I have probably played it at least as much as the games above. Portal ($5) -- Got this on sale on Steam at the same time as Audiosurf. Great price! Unfortunately it does not run well on my computer and also I am not good at first person shooters (even if this isn't much of one, it still is). So, I have not played it except for maybe an hour or less when I first got it. Again, good press on this (and word of mouth from friends too actually), though this time mostly on it being a very cool game. The Fool and His Money ($50) -- I paid $50 for this and I still don't have it. However -- I am very excited to be getting it when it is done, hopefully this year. It is a puzzle game by Cliff Johnson who made two of my favorite games, 3 in Three and Fool's Errand. They all feature interesting puzzles plus a lot of "meta puzzles" where clues from all over the game help. These earlier games are available for free (!) at thefoolandhismoney.com (The appropriateness of the title of this game in juxtaposition with my current situation vis a vis payment and game-having has not escaped me.) So I guess what makes me buy a game/not buy a game is knowing about a game, the game's politics, and the price point, all weighed by my irrational mind.

Thanks for the encodes Aktanusa! It's kind of funny because this is pretty much the same situation as Ghostbusters (as a recent example) where some cheap glitch lets you skip the game. In this case I am totally unfamiliar with the game, and also there is slightly less (?) action. But it did have a cow fighting a rat and a chicken fighting a bat, so a couple points there. Intellectually it is a cool movie but I guess I'm just not in the target audience. I am abstaining from voting.

Yeah, you have to install something. RAM watch probably isn't terribly important in this game though, so no big deal.

Nice to see this being picked up! A couple of things: Do the newer versions of dega still exhibit the problem with box status not reverting upon loading a state? When I ran this it defaulted to NTSC and I did not notice until afterwards, so I guess double check that your movie is using PAL if you haven't already (probably have :D ) You may already know this, but there's a memory watch tool that gets enabled if you install Python. Still not great but easier than MHS in my opinion. Good luck and I look forward to seeing this on the workbench!

Hmm... I am excited to see an Alfred Chicken run and have worked a bit on the NES version as well, but it looks like this run could be optimized quite a bit more. I also question whether an optimized run would be accepted, although I personally think it should be. Here's a WIP of the first level that completes it over a second faster, if my math is right: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1367716681/Alfred_C_alden.fm2 And here's an almost real time demo I made just now of a shortcut in the water section of the second level that saves over 30 seconds: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1478147870/Alfred_Chicken_Shortcut_alden.fm2 I honestly didn't watch the movie past that point so there could be other big timesavers, but I found that shortcut in a FAQ on the Internet, so with a Google you can be as much of an expert and I am (not really much of an expert at all). I hope you'll keep working on this and post some WIPs the forums! Edit: Oh, haha, I just realized Ferret posted a wip too... his first level is clearly even faster than mine (though he missed the water shortcut too :P)

It definitely should not obsolete existing Tetris runs for the reasons Baxter points out. However I do think it is quite entertaining and should be published. The option to obsolete it with a longer/more varied DS run would still be there.

Very nice run Mike! It's pretty close to a TAS. Speaking of which, once you can stomach it get to work on this for us ;)

The only thing chrome is missing is plug-ins... I still run firefox at the same time for ietab for the sites that neeeeed ie. Also fun stuff like tineye. Other than that chrome appeals to me aesthetically, runs fast, plus I sold my soul to google in the late '90s in exchange for never having to use yahoo, altavista or metacrawler ever again. I for one am anxious to see chromeos. Also chrome could use an auto-capitalize feature for when i'm feeling lazy.

OK, I think a faster solution would be if you could use a string instead of a vector of characters. Then you can use something like string.sub(originalstring,1,length). Probably not too much of an issue though :)

Something like: result = "" For i = 0 to length-1 result = result .. answord End gui.text(10,10,result) There's probably a more elegant solution, but that's what I would do :)

See, a lightning bolt directly to the car would damage the car; you're trying to USE energy from lightning that hits the clock tower and gets diverted down a cable that your car hits at just the right moment. DUH! ;)

OK, wow, I was reading dinosaur comics and read one relevant to this thread, except that I forgot that I was the one who started it and also that I had already linked to a comic. But anyway. It's still funny, to me.

I'm curious to see if you can make this look interesting... have you seen the previous attempt(s) at this game?
