Yes vote here, watched on niconico without logging in (I think there's a trick to bypass that). Thanks gocha. The game itself looks very good and offers variety of gameplay. I loved the death/continue abuse and some great 2 player craziness. Good job yet again zggzdydp!

:( Reading input from the other joypads during movie playback is finicky at best. As far as I know snex9x+Lua didn't support it at all, so not too disappointed, but interactive TAS TAS Revolution will have to wait I guess...

Accepted, nice! I still think a fastest completion goal should exist as well though... maybe a link from the publication?

What about Dark status not working properly? Speaking of which, I was thinking of using a screenshot from the Kraken fight. The current one is from the old movie. WarMech is not in this run :(

If anything you guys should be yelling at me for voting no. Which I did because I can't pay attention to SM runs but the animated one kept me awake... and this didn't. Good job though cpadolf, you are clearly a god among TASers!

Don't know the specific details of this game, but this should answer your second question: http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/Using.html#ResumingRecording

If you want to make a casual TAS, it might be a good idea to not watch the published run, and instead try to make things on your own. Then, when you're finished, you can watch it and see where and how you make mistakes and such.
What really makes this a good idea is that you may find different methods for completing the game that the previous author never thought of. If you watched the old movie first, you're more likely to just follow along the same path.
I don't think that's a good idea. Watching the old movie first ensures that you don't miss any tricks or any frames to it, and you can check if the strats and moves you come up with save time - if you're gonna TAS a game, not watching the previous movie first is a huge handicap.
Depends on how you feel about TASing through the whole game more than once... first pass do blind, then compare with the original and redo, then profit. Or what Derakon said :)

Here's a Lua script for FCEUX that displays input similar to DDR: http://lua.pastey.net/95286-e1qo Change the name in the first line to the target movie and save the script. Pause the emulator and play the movie. Then run the script and the movie will play along with the animation. I couldn't figure out how to do more friendly movie selection (ie with a dialog box) easily. Also, I realized after finishing that FCEUX, unlike snes9x+Lua, can read movie input fine. It's ok though because I needed to buffer the input anyways. It should be easy to make it interactive too, by looking at input from joypad 2... an exercise for the reader, or I'll do it later ;)

WinRAR will bug you if you open it, but if you just use the contextual menus I don't think there's any nag screens. Or, you could be nice and pay for it :) I use 7zip now though. Good luck getting fixed up. Want to send me your old one?

Hi Janus, welcome to the forums. You might want to check out http://tasvideos.org/LuckManipulation.html if you haven't already. There is also already at least a thread on Breath of Fire II at http://tasvideos.org/forum/t/3543. We generally prefer to keep all discussions of each game in one place. Let us know if you have any specific questions. Good luck!

Yes, perhaps I was too hasty. I don't mean to say you are "wrong"... just that this would cut out the parts of the current tas that I like :) But you might be on to something, and I certainly support rethinking and diversity in this community. Hell, I fell into the usual "GAH THIS IS DIFFERENT AND BAD" trap. Post a WIP!

On topic, here's an svg I edited to look somewhat like it would in Mario Paint. I should probably look for something with less detail :) http://aldentas.googlepages.com/lion.svg (Results may vary depending on browser)

By taking away all the permutations of the game with these constraints, we have a game which is really more in the spirit of Zelda than our current TAS of it.
Among my other disagreements with you, I don't think a good TAS == following the spirit of the game. My favorite TASes kill the spirit and bury it in the backyard. The current LoZ movie does this with particular flair. Perhaps I am falling for a joke?

You're just not wishing hard enough :) Man my memory sucks. Wasn't there some shooting innocent people game in the late 90's? Or did I really spend those years only playing Tony Hawk and FFVII at my friend's house?

Nuh uh! Seeing them drawn is way cooler and you had to use actual creativity :) The pixel by pixel ones won't be terribly interesting movies... Maybe an SVG interpreter like LagDotCom mentioned would look comparable.

Flash Columns would be pointless to make movies of, since you can just luck manipulate them so they start up with a 1-hit-win situation.
Actually, that would be pretty cool... it it's possible. X number of points is kind of arbitrary and repetitive, unless you could do it in 5 minutes or something. Have you seen http://tasvideos.org/2005S.html? Not great but it's a Columns TAS...
