Mario Paint is mouse only, and the mouse isn't rerecording capable, right? I found a hack that let's you use the normal game pad, I assume that's how to do it. Even if it wasn't done "as fast as possible" I think a picture drawing bot would be awesome.

Yes, I'm sure when people see this movie published they will raise their pitchforks and burn down the internet. This would be the first published movie that could be perceived by anyone as boring. It's not that bad. And it doesn't preclude a playaround being made. Oh well, Gruefood Delight can be home to the most fastest (and apparently lamest) OoT and SSB runs :)

I was entertained, but not terribly more entertained than by the other ones I've seen. It's impressively played -- a "wr" according to the submission file :) There are a couple of unique moments like Snorlax, the double ko of the Mario Bros, fast metal man, etc, as other people have posted. This game lends itself to many goals, and seemingly many authors who are interested in running it. It's certainly not always the most impressive game to TAS but does have quite an audience... Good job Blaze, hope to see more from you.

lol "local corpse = memory.readbyte(0x40c+0x1*i)" Also, you don't need to call gui.register in the main loop, you can just call it once after you declare the function... not that speed matters in this case :) So what's the grand total?

This was... interesting. I voted yes :) But it is a cautionary tale -- this movie is "5 whole seconds" faster but entirely lacking in the autoscrollers. Even andrewg's unassisted run (!) has more risky-ish "entertainment" in the style of Morimoto's run.

That's why it's in the "Concept Demos/Rule-breaking" section. The "one track" racing game movies break the rule about completing the whole game, the Chronotrigger New Game+ breaks the rule about SRAM, the hacks barely don't break the rules (their publication changed the rules by creating individual exceptions)... Also: what about Zanac, for example? In both this and the Crystalis movie, "cheating" makes the movie shorter and more interesting. Do you find something particularly offensive about this Crystalis movie? :)

If you choose New Game+ I think you keep all your experience but lose most of your items. Oh, wait... On topic: you can't beat the last fortress with frog suit cause it can't duck. Which really pissed me off when I was a kid. I had a frivolous childhood.

Two things to check: That you do have the rerecording version of VBA (which if you downloaded it from here you probably do) Also, if you read the frame advance thing again it says Ctrl N for frame advance, not just N. Or, change them like Ferret said :) I like q or pause/break for pause, and \ or right ctrl for frame advance Also, someone should make sure that page is still up to date and fix typos and stuff. (And by someone, I mean me :S )

I agree, but you should have to play all 31 games with the same input. Cause, you know, that's really popular.

Nice, thanks P.JBoy! What did you use to make it, my program seemed to force wait times in 1/100th second intervals. I want to make probably one more with good timing and a "Movie End" message, also with a bit more after the end of the movie than you have. I couldn't make an avi with video but the one I made was 34 KB

That was my original intention... previous versions of Lua have a super fast speed mode that stops the emulator drawing to the screen at all, which would effectively "skip" the frames. Unfortunately it is not in FCEUX yet. There's probably some other way to do it I'm not thinking of...

You rock my world Mr. Man. I liked your old one and this was gravy. Could you perhaps make available an IPS for your tile-counting (or whatnot) hack? I think it would be interesting to watch that way.

Yes, I think that on the custom boards it never fills the upper left hand corner. So when there are size-1 mines all the others get filled. Are there any other TAS-able Minesweepers? I found a multi-cart for NES but it takes over 10 seconds just to render a decently sized board (when it didn't crash).

Well, here's a 6.41 KB animated GIF... could figure out how to AVI, I also wonder how big it would be Edit: click to see my lame one, or see P.JBoy's below Animated GIF timing is crappier than animated PNG apparently, so this runs much slower, 50 fps compared to ~59.

This was interesting, yes vote here. I too was wondering about cutting out the horrible black flashing. So I wrote a little Lua script. Basically it watches RAM to determine the frame before it blanks out, gets a screenshot, then pastes that screen shot on to the subsequent "flashing" frames, while also increasing the speed to eliminate "stutter". However, I set it to a fixed number of frames for each shot, so sometimes flashing still comes through as it lasts longer. If one could find a reliable RAM address for "done flashing" this could be eliminated. I found some addresses that worked for the first level but stopped working later :( So, any other potentially good Zapper games?

Well, big yes vote here... I was a bit confused by your use of flags as I thought that a TAS wouldn't really need them, but you explain that in the submission text. Have you ever thought about trying to manipulate a large and densely mined board that can be solved in one "click"? Anyways, good show, you should keep making these non-standard games! :D

Well, it took 3 days, I'm impressed :) Thanks to all you well-wishers and sarcastic bastards! I'm going to make an animated GIF to go along with PNG at some point so everyone can share the love. ----

Not quite... to clarify, I was looking for someone to best my major goal: "Win a game using the fewest frames of input." However, I'm very happy there was a "real" game of Minesweeper on my heels :)

Though I'm disappointed that, with one minefield left to TAS, you just had to spoil the fun. At least this submission taught me a lesson for being lazy.
Well, I'll try to be less psychic next time... Actually, I think your movie looks all the more impressive in contrast to mine :)

Hmm, yeah, it doesn't work in IE for me... works in Firefox 3 and Opera 9.5 though. Xkeeper: or I'm 7 months and 27 days early. It's not really a joke though, I'm serious :P Monopoly is waaaay more complicated than this. And the Barney run is over two seconds longer :)

Thanks for watching and commenting! I encoded an AV... I mean, animated PNG: It shows the movie plus another half second afterwards. Also, it's a bit slower than 60 fps, but close enough.

YOU ELIMINATED 1 MONSTA(S) I liked this movie too -- 1 yes vote(s). I'm pretty sure the game never caught on because of its controls... I was playing it a bit to get a feel for it, and it seemed that with death the first level (and maybe others) could be shorter. I tested the first level and only got to the bonus level faster by 11 frames, but still :) CHACKNSLAUGHTER Not that it matters. So good job, and I look forward to more of your material.

Excellent, thanks for those corrections. I also added the Tetris run bkDJ mentioned a while ago, and the alternate Color a Dinosaur run mmbossman mentioned a long while ago.
