I've heard it used both ways in the US -- in Chamale's case, I think it is derived from the fact that crack cocaine gives the user a sense of being stronger/faster/better.

Yes, please. Would be a bit of work to make and maintain, but the benefit would justify the cost. Also, here's links to them you can use in lieu of downloading the zip: With alternate names Without

To me, designating "low%" implies that there is another run that is shorter but has a higher completion percentage. Designating any% implies that there is a low% or 100% run that is slower. The latter is the case here, so while this would qualify for both any and low%, the least confusing term to me would be any% (+glitched, of course).

That doesn't really answer my question: I was looking for an any% run that was not faster than a low% or 100% run. Both of those runs are as fast as possible regardless of completion percentage. But, I'm not entirely sure that arguing on this point is productive, or that we actually disagree on anything :) Probably just a difference of semantics. By the way, I still say keep the current non-glitched low% along with them all. Hey, if we could have something like this for the sake of not polluting the SNES listing with 5 SM movies, all the better.

To me, the word "any" implies "any" amount of completion, including 0 and 100. On this site, I believe it means that the game is completed as quickly as possible without restriction on the percent completed, and that there is another run that has a percentage completion goal of low% and/or 100% which is longer.

any% is not always synonymous with fastest time.
Really? Do you have an example in mind? Why would you choose to do an arbitrary % completion that was longer than low% or 100%? I don't mean to sound condescending; I'm genuinely curious if I have the wrong idea about this terminology.

True, if something existed there's no reason not to put it on the site as well. I just thought more people would be willing to part with their hard earned cash if they thought they were going to get some benefit.

Yes, they could be higher quality, perhaps provide optional input display (I always miss that on the AVI's) -- commentary? subtitles? It would definitely do better if it provided something not available free on the site. Also, don't pay the TASers, they already get all the glory ;) I would pay up to $50 a year personally, and would be more likely to do that than, say, just donate $20. I think I would still pay $50 a year even if it were for as few as 1 every 3 months.

Seen Alden/GruefoodDelight? That encompasses a bit more than you propose, but was a major part of my intention. That reminds me, I should add Front Line... And if the consensus is that we should stick to "art", I could point to several published movies that ought to be removed...

re: was/were ... It's something called the subjunctive mood (or sometimes subjunctive tense, though it's not really a tense). Specifically, this example is a "counterfactual conditional". I agree that it's stupid and confusing, but not using it will make you sound less "edumacated" Stupid English. The good (or bad) part is that it is a very dynamic language. I theorize that in 100 years time "u" will be an accepted form of "you" ;)

Just wanted to add that after watching this that this is my favorite SM run :) I've never really been a big fan... this was sweet though. Congrats Cpadolf, hero, Kejardon and whoever else helped with this craziness!

I haven't actually watched this run yet, but I thought I'd give some unsolicited opinions on the question of obsoletion. My first reaction was similar to DrJones -- This run beats the tar out of 3 different runs and should really obsolete them all. However, upon contemplation I think it is appropriate to have all the runs. People like Super Metroid and people claim that each run presents unique entertainment. It's practically getting to the point where there should be a new sub-section of the site: Super Metroid. Like I say that's not necessarily a bad thing as they are considered entertaining, but at the same time sets a new precedent really, namely that number of categories should not be considered when judging a movie's goals. It should be strictly entertainment.

Well, I liked it, but given that I was the one who made the "ignored topic" I guess that's not surprising. An acceptable goal will be hard to come by probably. I kind of like just the one level really...

Actually, I'm a specist, and adelikat's choice of dino does not jibe with my values. Land animal power! Er, I mean that I should add that :) Any other deserving April Fool's movies I left out?

As long as it is not an iceberg you are talking about, it is still metaphorical language even if you are referring to a literal object :) Keep 'em coming! I appreciate the input.

Yes, but we may not want to offer Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as a recommendation to follow up a new Super Mario World movie. I would also say that if a movie is "flawed" it might still be good to make available as a benchmark and also as entertainment. It could still be labeled as "not really what we want". And what about "alternate goal" movies, like Coinless Capless Cannonless Mario 64? I would be in favor of making that available, again not as a featured run but as an alternative that entertains a good number of viewers but perhaps not the majority.

I see your point adelikat, and as I mentioned earlier I personally concur that this movie as well as KQV and a number of other movies that I enjoy are not going to be appreciated/enjoyed by the bulk of the audience. My gripe is not with the judges but with the guidelines we follow. Does every movie on the site have to be of highest quality that can be appreciated by all? If this is the case, I think there are strong grounds for "un-publishing" a number of movies. How does having a higher volume of movies help with the quality of the site? More movies to choose from means more movies people will enjoy -- and more that they will not enjoy. If you simply add more movies, overall you are, as you say, lowering the overall entertainment to the "average" user. If you add more movies but at the same time improve the means of browsing the content, I would argue that you will actually increase the likelihood that people will be able to find movies they enjoy. Like I tried to describe before, I could see being more strict with selecting movies we choose to highlight. At the same time, the other movies that are lower than our current threshold can be available, easy to find but also made obvious to the user that they are not "the cream of the crop"

Cool, good stuff! Here's some American English equivalents to Kuwaga's: (If that should happen), I'll devour a broom including stick and sweepings. -- I bet that won't happen. -- I'll eat my hat The apple doesn't fall wide from the stem. -- He is just like his parents. -- The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. That's as funny as a bag full of weasels. -- That's so very funny. (irony) -- As fun as a barrel of monkeys (not exactly the same, it's not usually used sarcastically) I think this is my favorite though, I'm going to try using it: Everything has an end, only the sausage has two. -- Everyting ends.

Yes, those could be good reasons for rejection too. Though hacks I don't see as that bad, as long as they don't clutter up real games. Runs with game genie codes breaks the spirit of being able to theoretically do the same thing on an unmodified console, so that would definitely be an auto-reject. I think there are definitely times that runs "not beating the unassisted record" would be fine, as long as that is noted and the movie shows something off that can't be done unassisted. But yes, I was probably being overly optimistic in asserting that "not tool-assisted" would be the only appropriate reason for rejection :)

That sounds good, but I would also change/add: 2) Do you think this movie should be published and featured? (Please explain why.) 3) Do you think this movie should be rejected entirely? (Please explain why.) Voting "Yes" on 3) should be rare, and should be for a good reason like "is not tool-assisted" (this seems like an obvious requirement on a site called "Tool Assisted Speedruns/Superplay movies".). In fact, I can't really think of any other good reason. Ultimately, any movie that is liked by at least a few people who vote as well as post a comment, and which does not have many votes with arguments for non-publication, should be made available in some sort of vaguely friendly fashion on this website. Movies that receive many nominations for being "featured" should indeed be featured, by figuring more prominently on the homepage and/or other such means.

I will add that I agree with Xkeeper that extra AVI's probably won't be a burden, but if that is seen as the obstacle to listing more movies then I certainly would prefer a solution that makes movies more visible than they currently are even without AVI's.
