Re: stickyman, aka sneaky-edit-man ;) 1. Nope, the mini hills don't count as real hills for the purpose of speeding up, going into a roll just slows you down like flat land 2. I haven't been able to bounce on water like in sonic 2 :( And Re: mike, if zone 1 can be done in :18, I haven't been able to. I did get it down to :19 though.

Thanks for youtubing again Wockes ... RE mike, those are good suggestions. I tried to get into a roll again in 1, guess i'll have to try harder ;) In 2, I don't think I can jump lower on the spring, but if I approach it slower I could probably avoid hitting the cliff. I'm looking forward to bridge 1, from Sprint's videos it should be another super fast level... on SMS it didn't work out too well. Thanks everyone for the support, I'm pretty busy but I'll try to get this done eventually ;)

DOUBLE POST! ...but with new wip... This is Green Hill for Game Gear... as noted, first zone is slower due to slight change that disallows cool trick. But I daresay it is faster that you could do unassisted on gamegear. And the second zone is actually faster than unassisted! Woo! :22 seconds baby! Plus the boss on gamegear is way faster than master system. The downside is ludicrously long score tallies, but, meh.

Slowly :P ... I've been tinkering with the GG version as well to see how they compare. The level designs are subtly different, for example in GG gh1 you can't do the hold-right-and-skip-everything trick. I won't promise this time, but I'll try to post a wip soon

Meth- is a prefix which means "1" if I remember my chemistry correctly (see methane which has one carbon atom) It does change your perception of reality, but in a way vastly different from true psychedelics like LSD etc To the kids at home: seriously, if you're going to do any drug, make it NOT meth. It is probably the most addictive, most dangerous drug. Most hippies suggest pot. The us government suggests alcohol, tobacco, sudafed, nyquil and tylenol pm which are freely available to adults. I for one am a big fan of Magritte of course Magritte was referring to the nature of humans to confuse an image with the thing itself, and his saying "this is not a pipe" was entirely accurate insofar as you cannot literally smoke the painting. and of course a lot of you justifiably hate drugs, but mario smoking crystal meth from a pipe would actually be an appropriate mascot. ok not really at all, but i had to tie it in somehow.

If you feel comfortable with memory watch you can poke value 0xCF40 which is the number of arrows in inventory. I did a bit of testing on mummy dragon, and it's strange, it does 2 to 8 damage per arrow and usually 4. You'd probably be better at it than me ;) Good luck, your route wip looks good and this game is funny...

Well so far I have not been able to fully replicate the glitch. Holding L+R in a spin while moving right lowers sonic a frame while he skids (or just holding L), but when i go into a spin again (or walk) he goes back to ground level. I haven't been able to make him sink twice. I should be posting a WIP soon I promise ;)

Thanks for encoding again Wockes -- from what I've seen this is one of the slower levels, hopefully we'll see more awesomeness later ;) (after the autoscroller level that is -- this really is the red-headed stepchild of sonic games isn't it?) AKA -- that's an interesting glitch and I'll check out. I actually ended up using L+R to slow down to normal speed at the end of this level so that I could jump and trip the signpost from the right instead of the left, which makes it not jump up and down as much. Hopefully the sinking will provide some sort of shortcut somewhere.

OK, redid level 2... Minor improvements for the most part, except a total change in strategy on the last hill, obtaining 22 seconds, woo! Hardest part was manipulating the sign at the end not to bounce around as much, which saved over a second of "real" time.

Second zone... Also shaved off a couple more frames on the first zone. ermacone, I will be very impressed if you can do it in 17 seconds! I want to do a pure speed TAS this time, but I would definitely like to see a chaos emerald/high score run ... possibly a 100% 1-up run, since there's one in every level.

I believe he is actually constantly spinning after the big hill -- he reaches about 5 times normal running speed according to memory watch (by comparison, speed shoes give you twice, and at the bottom of the big hill it's about 1.5) ... but the camera seems to have a limit as to how fast it catches up so it doesn't matter too much :P looking at the rest of the game, this will be one of the few times this sort of speed is possible -- i've read about glitching into walls on one level so maybe it can be done elsewhere. Awesome. Thanks for the encouragement all. ermacone's movie inspired me to further optimization with this result, still 18 seconds in game but about 58 frames faster till the first fade out. The greatest enemy as in many games is lag :P not sure how to encode an avi, but if i can figure it out i'll try to upload one at some point.

I'm forking off the generic "Sonic games" thread... Here's a WIP of the first level of Sonic the Hedgehog for SMS. Don't know if anyone else is running this game. Posting mostly to see if my ROM is "cool", also to show off the fact that SMS Sonic games can be just as absurd as the genesis versions ;) Thanks to pcc for showing me the memory tool in dega, and thanks to DeHackEd for letting me post on microstorage.
