I liked the piano song personally, except for the end when you started playing the melody :) Voted yes

Very good! Though extra points for identifying the exact site (hint: it's the largest known Mayan site)

I third it :P I actually tried making one the other day but couldn't get the movie to sync past the first level. Mupen and I are not friends and never have been. But seriously, I'm surprised our ravenous horde of encoders hasn't gotten *anything* out there yet. This is almost like TASvideos back in the day where an encode before publishing was unheard of :) Kids these days have it so easy. Why, in my day we had to blah blah blah and furthermore give me an encode and get off my lawn.

I have been looking forward to a TAS of this game since I first heard about it... definitely a fun watch, even at over 30 minutes despite my being totally unfamiliar with it! It almost seems to have been made with TASing in mind -- the gameplay itself is impressive as a TAS but there is no major glitching or sequence breaking. Out of curiosity, what items could be skipped and still get the "good ending"?

This was pretty radical dude... but would love to see an all tapes and all golds run. It *is* fairly amusing to medal in the competition with only 8 seconds of playing, but I'm guessing it would also be nice to see WINNING the competition after only XX seconds. Beggars can't be choosers though, so thanks again for this run, it was awesome. (Oh, and if there were two good TASers I think a game of horse would be in order haha)

There are two shorter submissions, but neither got accepted: * ais523's NetHack "fastest death" in 69 frames * Alden's Minesweeper in 28 frames In fact, both of these were so short, they were encoded as animated images!
The Minesweeper image appears to have been deleted. Does anyone have a copy?
Here you go: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1665523/minesweeperanimation.png "IIRC" this is encoded at 50 fps and it's an animated png which some browsers choke on. But it's the one I can find. If someone who's not as retarded as I am can update my submission text I would appreciate it; I can't seem to edit it for some reason. On topic, Yes vote.

Yeah, the Monopoly one was my favorite... seeing it played on a real board was cool. Not that you could do that with a lot of games :) Though I remember having a horrible SMB board game when I was a kid The other two didn't add too much for me because I was pretty familiar with both of those runs. But they are definitely a great explanation for people who don't read the submission text. Hope to see more of these!

It's fake, IMO Which is a shame, because when I first heard about it I immediately wanted to tas it D: Hope I'm wrong!

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5569 among other threads springs to mind. To your question about publishability, probably only movies that people find more entertaining on an aesthetic level will get published (ie they are faster etc). Just because it was generated by a program doesn't mean it's entertaining to a large audience, and I doubt a new category would be created. I would be interested to see any of your attempts though as this sort of thing fascinates me :)

Hmm yeah it might not be working at all. But perhaps you could decode some of the memory addresses for the other games? I guess you could figure it out for yourself anyways :P Anyway, good luck!

For what it's worth I dug up an old script I was working on for MM 1, 2 and 3. Not sure if it is even in a working state, though it was at some point. I got hung up on the graphical issues. Would love to see a TAS using your script someday! http://lua.pastebin.com/Y5MS2nyR

Granted, I don't remember the previous movie too well, but this entertained me just as much if not more. Time be damned.

I was reading about Star Fire (because I was curious what the first arcade game with a high score chart was after Warp commented on it) and it implements a cool down period (last sentence in the first paragraph of this section): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Fire#Gameplay I imagine there are even older games that have something like that too.

Those are all great suggestions! Radz's in particular, those are great older players. Further to that, and also in keeping with traditional "Hall of Fames", maybe it should be restricted to players who have "retired" -- whatever that means... ie all movies obsoleted, or latest movie from 3 years ago, or...?

As we mature, some players will naturally move on (except adelikat who will tas until he is 110). I think it would be fun to list super-contributors into some sort of "hall of fame" as a way of preserving history and something players to aspire to. Off the top of my head, apologies if I've forgotten obvious nominees, no particular order: Bisqwit Morimoto Arc Michael Fried Phil Nitsuja JXQ AngerFist Baxter Randil Acmlm Aqfaq Lord Tom adelikat Cardboard ...That's all I can think of for now. Plenty of other people too :) Hmm, politics. Maybe just people with a certain threshold of points :P

Let's face it, stuff like M64 has a devoted speedrunning community to itself -- but most people don't care about obscure NES titles like Linus Spacehead.
Meh, I was hoping I could make that game less obscure with a TAS. Or I was hoping its having a funny name would make more people care to check it out. >_<
You did make it less obscure! The only reason I knew about it was because of my research on Code Masters when doing my dizzy run. But still, I don't think it's surprising that most people were daunted by an almost half hour run of a game no one had ever heard of. A shame, but not surprising :)
