Go for speed, this will be put in the vault anyway. I'm really interested to see how much time can be saved compared to RTA runs.

This game looks like they just forgot to put textures on everything. I can't believe this was released the same year as Super Mario 64!

What are the differences between the difficulties here?

It seems obvious to me that if you put an ACE TAS in the newcomer section, you're choosing SMW. Programming a game into another game, how do you top that? Get over your GDQ hype, the SMW TAS still has a more spectacular concept.

It's really easy: Don't use GIM when emulating the N64 version. There is no official N64 release for Master Quest anyway.

GIM, I delay a deku nut pickup and use the value from the heart piece chest to get the blue potion when I jump in the water. In the actual video I used the wrong graphics plugin so to avoid crashing I had to miss the chest and manually write a blue potion into my items screen, but this is fully tested and won't crash with the right graphics plugin.
But it still crashes an a real N64.

This game sucks, but the TAS was enjoyable. I like seeing unfair games like this one getting destroyed by a superhuman (no pun intended). I suggest a use of the spin move as a screenshot, as I did definitely not expect to see Superman dance!

Absolutely crazy, this guy probably knows more about the game than any developer! You all know what needs to happen: A full game ABC TAS, encoded for an unedited video. Yes, I'd watch that!

ALAKTORN, I think the relevant question should be the one we bring up any time an easier difficulty is used: does the harder difficulty make things any more interesting, as opposed to just making the characters grind for longer? With Diddy Kong Racing, for instance, there's the added entertainment of seeing the handling of an inferior car when you don't use NG+. On the other hand, the easier difficulty is used in Kaze Kiri since harder difficulty causes no strategy changes. (Earthworm Jim 2 had similar reasons for using easy difficulty.)
Not really, DKR is actually very similar to this game, where having the advantages of NG+ makes the run significantly more interesting. You just don't have the same crazy speed without the unlockable character TT, so in the end, all you would get in a newgame TAS would be the same strats done slower. I have no doubts that the upcoming DKR run will easily be accepted as a NG+ when providing a verification movie. (I'm not talking about the glitched NG+ by the way, that one essentially just copies a completed file and is super boring)

Banning savearping always seemed pointless to me. Just look at the strange rules of Glitchless Ocarina of Time, that make people use deathwarps instead, something that makes the run look much worse than savewarps! In the Diddy Kong Racing community, we press the reset button all the time to skip the cutscenes after beating the bossses. The smaller cutscenes after each race are skipped with pressing the start button at the right frame after the finish line, so we can quit out of the race during the cutscene. Do you think the runs would be more interesting to watch or play if we were forced to watch those cutscenes? It would only make it longer and remove the skill involved with the small cutscene skips.

I feel like if you're already getting most of the Boos, it wouldn't be that much out of your way to have a 100% run instead of any%. This is great in the meantime, though.
100% includes more than just all boos, you also have to get the best rank at the end.

Loved this TAS, the commentary makes it even better. There was so much going on at once and you could really see how the games mechanics were abused as much as possible. Strong yes vote from me! I also agree with starting from a premade save, a fresh one would only be slower without adding anything of interest.

This TAS was amazing, please submit it! It would make such a great addition to the published, super broken one.

The solution was simple: I unplugged the AC adapter and plugged it in somewhere else. The light went on and everything worked! Now it even works again on the old place. Apparently those AC adapters can block themselves sometimes, so maybe that was the problem. So great, the classic unplug/re-plug worked, I feel so dumb..

Ok, I'll try to get a different charger to try. You sure it's not the battery? Replacing it should be cheaper than a gamepad. Thanks for your help!

So I haven't had the gamepad charged for quite a while now. Even after hours of charging, I can't get a life sign out of it. Is the battery completely dead or is there some way to get it working again? If this is seriously enough to kill the gamepads battery for good, then that would be a fucking joke. I never had any device where this happened.

NES TASer of 2015 for sure! It's really amazing how many games you optimized, Alyosha. You should try to go for handheld stuff as well! Also, shoutouts for naming yourself after the main character from one of my favorite books :)

Hey Tigame, I finally found the time to look up the savestates! But it seems that the site doesn't support sending .state files in any way. Wanna add me on Skype so I can easily give them to you? Would be cool to have a talk about Gex anyway. Just look up the same name I use here, you'll find me ;)

I've always thought [2818] N64 Paper Mario by Malleoz in 1:30:40.15 should be starred. It's super optimized and one of the more entertaining RPG speedruns to watch. There's a lot of cool tricks and skips giving it a lot of variety and it currently has a score of 8.8. If you've watched it with Malleoz's commentary you'll see just how optimized the run truly is. What do you guys think?
Paper Mario was fun, but compared to other TASes, it was a bit too repetitive for my taste. Paper Mario 2 is longer and has more cutscenes, but it has more to offer.

FOR THE ALLIANCE! But seriously, good job TASing all those categories, we almost never see this genre on the site.
