Talking about versions of this game: Am I the only one that thinks that the next 70 star update should be done on Shindou, the version that doesn't allow for BLJs?

It's nice to hear that. Because I'm not pushing people to use Bizhawk just for the sake of it, but because I want accurate TASes. If you use Mupen, that's fine, all I care is that the final product is a .bk2 file.

Now THIS is a truly amazing news coming from this game, not some guys using an inaccurate emulator to get closer to a fake sub 5. Great job on finally getting this skip!

Does this complete all minigames? Because the difference between any% and 100% is so small for the Minigame Island, I would prefer if all of them were played.

So let me get this straight: They refuse to use Bizhawk for no reason, but splice together a TAS because Mupen is terrible. Oh the irony...

This stuff looks crazy (yes, I don't understand it at all ^^), but i'm so excited that normal mode will be improved! I did honestly not believe that it was possible to save more time. Good luck with this! While I'm in the SML thread, I had this idea for the game for a while now: A highscore TAS! The goal obviously is to get the best score, but without death abuse, so this would limit infinite scoring methods. The routing would be insane, but I think it would make for a great TAS!

Likely the same reason why they didn't submit the any% run: Not optimised enough for TASvideos' standards.
The any% TAS they did breaks a site rule by using an emulator bug, it would have never been accepted for publication.

It's so weird that this game is J only, if they would have sold it here in Switzerland, it would have easily been successful, everyone here knew about Pingu. The TAS was - to my surprise - entertaining enough for a yes vote. You somehow managed to do some cool stuff in a simple game like this, good job! Now go on for more TASes of games with penguins ^^

The only differences between Easy and Sick is the score needed for some goals and the amount of goals needed to complete a level. Everything else is the same
If I remember correctly, some goals are harder and the requirements for improving your stats are also higher.

Whoa, I can't believe how awesome that C64 soundtrack is! No wonder that the music was also the highlight for me in this TAS!

The focus on ingame time didn't bother me at all, but I disagree with the 1 round-setting. In my opinion, fighting game speedruns should use the default setting here.

Pingu really is a Swiss thing, I remember it from my childhood, It's pretty well known here. But I had no idea that they made games.

The only thing that the voting system on this site asks you is "did you find this movie entertaining?". Not "should it be published?" or "is this a valid category?", it just asks if you were entertained.

Why should we limit potential categories? If a category is "arbitrary" (meaning it's not any% or 100%) it can only get published to Moon or Star tier and that only if people find it entertaining. If people come up with 10 more categories for SM that are all highly entertaining, then I'd say go ahead and publish them all, that's all I care about.

There is something I noticed a while ago, just remembered it now: Youtube normally doesn't require Flash and some browsers have it pre-installed anyway (Chrome). But for some reason, embedded Youtube videos in submission texts tell you that you miss a plugin if you browse that site on a browser like Firefox without having Flash installed. Embedded videos in posts don't have this problem, only submission texts, which seems really strange. Did anyone else notice this or is it just specific to a PC I'm using?

I think the goal choice is arbitrary. These kinds of runs have been rejected before. Barring that fact, we already have about 4500 published runs for Super Metroid, what does this one bring to the table? Does it add anything significant…?
I do not think the goal choice is not arbitrary, and as I already mentioned - it is a “legit” category and is listed on deertier.com which is the standard for all Super Metroid rankings. The run you listed as being banned is taken from one of the earlier Castlevania games. No disrespect but comparing the movement of your character in Super Metroid and Castlevania is like comparing Apples to Oranges.
It doesn't matter how RTA communities categorize runs, it's about entertainment. If a non-any% category makes for a good TAS, publish it, if not, reject it.

How can this be in the vault and have entertainment tradeoffs?

Is Bizhawk more accurate in emulating this game or is it exactly the same? Because if it actually was more accurate, a new TAS should be made.

I've starting working on 100%, I just get the bow (about 40 minutes of gameplay). But I'm not fully satisfied of my work, it's more like a "superplay" than a TAS (it's really far from the amazing WIP of the any%).
That's really cool! Even if it isn't optimal, it would be great to have a first TAS that can be used as a comparison for future attempts at this category.

I don't see why PAL should be better, it even runs at the same framerate here. If you're talking about using 50Hz mode to your advantage, though.. Please don't! If there are actual differences in physics that are not related to 50Hz mode, I would agree with choosing PAL.

Most importantly, I hope you didn't use GIM in that TAS. Would be a shame if the first completed 100% couldn't be published here.
