Would it be more legit to TAS it on dolphin or a N64 emulator?
It crashes on N64, so TASing that version with an N64 emulator is not legit. It doesn't crash on Gamecube or VC and those versions can be TASed with Dolphin.

If it crashes on console and you can prevent it on emulator by changing a setting, it's not legit. You're free to TAS it, but it should never be accepted by this site. For a VC TAS, there will always be the argument that you're playing an official release.

That was hilarious, many of the glitches there were new for me. I also liked how the AI was abused. The published TAS of this game is one of my alltime favorites on the site, but maybe it would in fact be possible to make a new version that shows off even more crazy stuff!

For 100%, you could't skip Quizmo. Skipping him would mean to ignore Star Pieces, which would make it extremely arbitrary. There are things that you can discuss if you want to include them or not, but you can't skip something limited where you see the progress of your collection every time you open the pause menu. But would I watch 100%? Of course, every second of it!

I wouldn't have a problem with a separate TAS of VC/GC, even though I will always prefer N64.

Wow, the information if this games PAL release supported 60 Hz seems to not exist on the internet. Maybe someone with Dolphin installed could test this?

When I click "reply" in a thread, the posting screen gets cut in half if there are any embedded videos on that page. The left half is the preview screen, the right one has the video players. The vertical positioning is as normal. I'm using Chrome.

Why did you use the European version? It was released in North America under a different name (Trace Memory): http://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/924898-trace-memory/data
If there aren't any gameplay differences that make it slower, European versions are fine for handhelds. I don't know this game, though.

And everything is going crazy again, because even in 2015, they found new ways to break this game. I knew the 18:07 route wasn't the end of the story, because we're talking about OoT here ^^

The site allows to use J or U: "The US ((U)) versions are generally preferred over the Japanese ((J)) version due to the use of English language, which is easier to understand for the general audience. However, the Japanese audience here is significant, and there is no longer a specific requirement at TASVideos to use one version over another." Only for improvements to published TASes, you're not allowed to obsolete a U-TAS with a J-Version, when the only improvement is text. You need at least one frame of gameplay improvement.

I can enjoy vaulty (I love that term) TASes, but this had no entertainment value for me. Sorry, had to vote no. As far as optimization goes, I just assume that it is fine, since this is such a simple game. But I don't know anything about the game.

If you don't want to TAS with SRAM, that's fine, I'm sure such a TAS would be very entertaining. Much more than the "RTA any%". DKR is different in that regard, a TAS with clean SRAM would be considerably less impressive because you wouldn't have TT. And no, I'm not referring to the glitched newgame+, I'm talking about any% and 100% with TT already unlocked, the RTA standard.

It's not like you're not allowed to start from SRAM, there are several published TASes that do it. And regarding that TAS of Diddy Kong Racing, the problem there was not the category itself, but the author refusing to provide a verfication movie that generates the SRAM.

Just look at all the categories that Symphony of the Night has! I'm sure there can be both a new game and new game+ for Banjo-Tooie on this site :)

Thanks for explaining all this stuff! The emulation of the Rare games really is all over the place, and it will probably take a very long time until we have an emulator that is even "ok" with its accuracy. Until then, the best we can do is trying to work with what we have - Just like you're doing it right now, Cronikeys. I'm absolutely fine with not using tricks in a TAS that can't be verified, so please don't get discouraged! And I just randomly remembered something completely irrelevant: Another (apparently very unknown) difference between versions is, that some copies actually show more Stop 'n' Swop items in the secret ending! Specifically, I'm talking about the egg in MMM. Well, at least my old PAL cartridge does it... I love how many secrets those games still hold from us ^^

I don't think we can use CEN64 for any serious testing yet. But interestingly enough, the emulator seems to work better with the classic "problem games" so far.

The site should obviously reject every 100% of this game and only accept "all permanent flags".

Either go for pacifist or don't. This run is a "pacifist as long as it looks cool", which seems a bit weird. I'm not an expert in this game, but I'm sure it's a well made TAS. I just don't like the goal.

I'd say use Hero Mode for an any% TAS. It makes an already long game faster and allows for a number of interesting strats.

Having just seen this impressive RTA WR, I'm wondering if there is a comparable TAS. A search of the site and looking through a few pages of google results didn't turn anything up, and I don't really have time to read 30 pages of this thread. Thanks! :)
Check out this page: http://wrvids.com/Mario%20Kart/MK64/TAS/ There aren't many time trial TASes, unfortunately.

I still think a TAS should use the J version, simply because the game is very long already and it doesn't add anything to have longer conversations. If this will ever be TASed..

The rules state that board games are not considered to be "serious games" or eligible for Vault... but I think that's kind of a lousy, over-generalized rule. I don't know what's up with the re-record count or if this is an optimized movie. I only know I appreciate the concept and that I was in no way entertained by the run, so... here's a No vote, with a glimmer of hope that the run might be publishable at all.
I agree, board games can be interesting as TASes.
