I don't get why this run should automatically go to the Vault *if* it gets accepted. The Vault is for boring but optimal runs or just bad games, not for "wrong" versions of popular games. It's like the any% of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, I don't understand why that version of SMB seems to be that much more uninteresting that it deserves a place in the Vault. Well, in this case here you could at least argue that it isn't as entertaining because it has less content.

You should not try to optimize the superswims to the extreme in the first TAS of this game. Just do them as fast as you can without losing your sanity, no one will mind if they're not perfect. Also, I highly doubt that this site will reject a run with known improvements in such a complicated and tedious thing as superswims. As an alternative, you could also do a really unoptimized testrun. With a finished product to compare, motivating yourself would be a lot easier.

Thanks for the encode! Not much to say about this chapter, it's mostly just fighting and dialogue. The highlight was of course the strategy you used on the boss. Also, I didn't even know you can just escape those "unofficial battles" like the one against Bowser and still progress. You just never try this as a casual player :D The only question I have is about the condition of the first battle: Is that one fixed and can't be manipulated to be something passive like the other ones? Overall, you once again did a great job. I can't believe you're 26 minutes ahead of the RTA!

I will never understand the logic behind "coarse language" being ranked significantly worse up the age-scale than "bloody violence". Apparently, a 13 year old is considered old enough for graphical pixelly depictions of bloody violence, but still considered way too young to watch a video in which the word "sucks" is said. How exactly does that follow?
I guess you have to be american to understand that. The only thing that Europeans care about is violence (especially Germany, where Goldeneye is still banned!). But I find this much more understandable than problems with nudity or bad language.

No feedback on the WIP? Ok, it's up to me then.. Chapter 2 has much more walking and dialogue compared to 1, but the TAS has more than enough entertaining parts to make up for this. The highlight in my opinion were the parts where you manipulated the Punies. If I hadn't played the game before, I wouldn't have guessed that they're supposed to be part of puzzles (like in the room with the bubbles), because it looks like they're ignored completely. The only disappointing thing was the fact that you couldn't blow them down the hole in the cage in one go. My favorite battle was of course the one with the Shadow Sirens. You made the timing for the star attack look trivial and got perfect luck - Exactly what I want to see in a TAS! Keep it up guys, I'm already hyped for Chapter 3!

Wouldn't the rating of the "no warps" run be too low for Moons? But on the other hand, theres the Moon tier TAS with the lowest rating...

In Breakout for Atari, the controls don't seem to work. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I don't have this problem with other Atari titles. I'm using 1.5.2

I support your decision to use the fastest strategy. I can understand entertainment tradeoffs for small things, but not entire route changes based on it. The only game where I wouldn't care for speed at all is Conkers Bad Fur Day, this would need to have every single cutscene ^_^

How should loading times be emulated if they depend on physical things like the condition of the disc and the console?

You could make this a category, but then we would have TWO runs of this game...

I would go for two categories: - highscore-run, with speed as a secondary goal - speed-oriented, with score as a secondary goal I mean that's why we have the vault.

The idea of a Starfox 64 TAS aimed for speed just got a lot more interesting with the new RTA route. Currently the record is 24:12. I wonder if a TAS could destroy all four hatches of the UFO on Katina before the cutscene starts. That, combined with a lot of lag reduction and luck manipulation, could really bring down the time.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this game was never released commercially and the existing cartridges were found after the lifespan of the NES.

Good job, adelikat, I didn't see this coming. A game as bad as this one doesn't deserve any better. It's a shame it can't be completed, though. The question now is, if this should obsolete the published run or not. I'm, of course, not really objective in that matter as I am the author of said run. Either way, I would say it shouldn't obsolete it because it doesn't beat the game (although you can't really call the ending of the other run an "ending", it just goes back to the title screen)

I remember trying to play a fan translation of Der Langrisser by someone named "LangFanDood." It was literally nothing but machine translations. Kinda funny.
I'm still trying to figure out what "Langrisser" even means. German is my native language and I can even get something out of other japanese-german titles like Rosenkreuzstilette, but Langrisser doesn't sound like a word at all. I read that it means "lung ripper", which definitely couldn't be translated into Langrisser. That would be "Lungenreisser". I guess it's just another case of "everything sounds cooler in German"

I got 96. The score could've been higher if I knew the exact english name of some of them (like Azerbaijan or the two Congos). But I'm surprised how many of the more obscure ones I was able to name (like Nauru or Lesotho).

This WIP looks amazing. It may have tons of text, but that's just how the game is. One of the highlights for me was the OoB trick with Goombella, I can't believe how fast this can be performed. Also, it always looks nice how the items from the blocks conveniently fall right in front of Mario. Good luck for chapter 2!

I searched for a SG-1000 game to TAS that isn't just a port of a more well-known version. By looking up some lists, I found this shooting-gallery type of game that actually has nothing to do with all the other games that were made out of the franchise (like the NES version). I played it to see if it would make for a good TAS and developed a strange addiction for it. While the gameplay is very limited, it has a great learning curve and you quickly get a feel for doing the levels fast and making some impossibly tight shots. About the gameplay: Your goal is to shoot the 15 windows (so that some trapped people can escape) of a moving train while you are in a car that automatically falls behind to the left side if you don't keep up. To make things harder, there are several obstacles where your bullets can ricochet off. A level ends when all windows are destroyed and the train has left the screen. The further you go, the harder it gets: You get additional obstacles, helicopters that shoot homing missiles at you and an increasingly fast speed of the objects. Some things you should know: - You want to have the train as much on the right side of the screen as possible when you shoot the last window, so you can minimize the time it takes for it to leave the screen. - You can't have more than 4 escaping people on the screen at the same time. This means that before at least one of them has completely vanished, you can't shoot more windows. - The guide at Gamefaqs is wrong. The levels do not repeat from level 4 on. The one thing that I'm still not sure about is when a TAS should end. I know that the rules of the site say "when there is no new content", but I can't really confirm yet if there's a point where it starts to repeat a level. At least I found the memory address that determines the level (0204), which will help me a lot.

A glitched TAS would be amazing, but I would be hyped for any new TAS of gen II. Just to remind, the only run of that gen that is currently published is from 2006!

I can't believe this category got improved again. Now with this new type of glitch, it stands out even more. How could I vote anything but yes? Now how about a gen II run?

I use a 360 controller for playing. I know it's not optimal for consoles like the N64 and mine even has a semi-broken analog stick, but I just can't bring myself to finally buy one of those Gamecube-USB adapters. Yeah, I'm that lazy :p For TASing, I really want to have an Input plugin. I hate using the keyboard for anything.

I thought that glitch with getting all the trophies through the OoB was pretty new. Also, if I remember correctly, this strategy does not require using any data from a completed savefile, which was the reason the glitched TAS was rejected.
