One quick correction. That clip I posted for comparisons is Aria of Sorrow, not Dawn of Sorrow. EDIT 1: Reading more of the draft, I have a suggestion for introducing terminology. You can use it to emphasize the different mindsets of TASers and speedrunners. While speedrunners emphasize skill, TASers emphasize creativity. Thus instead of "run", we use "movie", instead of "player", we use "author", instead of "running" or "playing" we use "writing" or "creating".

It was originally Speedruns, but it was changed to Superplays once more playarounds started making it through.

I'm also fine with a documentary, but it will require a lot more research than I originally thought, and a lot more clips. Maybe some longer clips would be useful as well. I also suggest getting hold of adelikat for an interview as well. In addition to having many top quality TASes featured on the site, he's also the current owner. EDIT: I prefer the first draft, though I think there should be a small introduction explaining the state of mind that goes into TASing. Something like explaining the appeal of video games and then saying there are many ways to enjoy games. You can play them exactly as intended and you will get a great experience. However, there are some people who like to get on the inside of games, to test their limits, and to see how far the game can bend. The reason I picked the first draft is not every run on the site is dedicated entirely to speedrunning. There's been two camps of philosophy on the site for almost the entire time it's been around, basically speed first or entertainment first.

Saw that run too. That's pretty useful information. Good to see that my run is still beating that other run too. That's a good sign.

That TAS is pretty sloppy. I might be able to watch it for route planning, though. My movie is 2:20. When that TAS reaches where I am, it's at 3:10.

I found a few times when I could have save time and implemented them. That led to better luck on the boss, which added up to many frames saved. Also, I continued my run until the rescue of Leonardo. Link.

Read the drafts. These feel more like documentary scripts than site advertisements. I would be interested in seeing how a documentary would turn out and a documentary could serve to up interest as well, but would like to see an ad made too. I think you should try using fewer words to get your point across and rely a lot more on the clips to show what is amazing about these videos. I'll try to make another example when I'm not typing on a phone.

Find a specific moment in the TAS, a short segment that's easy to understand for both people who have played the game and those who haven't, which shows off one of the qualities TASes are famous for, and post a link to that specific moment in the official youtube video, then explain why you think said moment should be included. Svimmer is not going to, nor would I expect him to, scan through every TAS suggested to find a 5 - 10 second segment that's useful for the video. EDIT: By the way, Svimmer, have you managed to get into contact with Bisqwit yet? Also, have you considered Google Docs for your spreadsheet. That way we can see what sort of progress you're making in relative real time. You can set it up so that everyone with the link can view the doc, but only you can edit it.

Would it be possible to maybe do some Genesis verification there?

Clipping through walls requires you to do a long series of frame perfect inputs in quick succession. I'm pretty sure it's impossible in real time. Here's a short list of possible Genesis clips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckzutmwAyRc&t=4m Comix Zone martial arts tournament. This shows some superplay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3WTYXt0pfo&t=7m50s Crusader of Centy: an unexpected strategy for getting through the windy valley. Fast speed and possibly glitches http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Udzvr9f_aoo&t=9m45s Sonic and Knuckles through to Launch Base Zone 1. Extreme glitching.

The problem with the video you linked is that Batman's invisible at the beginning of the stage.

I think you should reconsider the Batman clip I posted earlier, especially since you're specifically looking for Genesis moments. I really think it's a great moment that speaks for itself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVgUTF9gzE4&t=10m13s From the start of the stage to when he starts moving again. I'll take a look at the Genesis movies and see if I can't find some more examples.

Maybe instead of looking at a single moment, you can show a bunch of major improvements over the history of the run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl5rvO5HB3Y More like that.

It might be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for. * Improvements between TASes are very often subtle changes compounded over time. * Major changes don't usually happen at the same place between versions * Often the biggest changes between runs have to do with entertainment changes rather than speed differences. * Even the simplest games can have major route changes, which might exchange a temporary loss of frames for an eventual gain. I'll see what I can find, though. One place you might try searching is This channel

That's the first I've heard of it, but I'm sure it will be a fascinating study.

Here's a weird idea for a montage. Eat At Joes. An old running gag which has kind of disappeared recently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hETRzNzpFAI&t=4m37s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpvAmMdFpsA&t=27m18s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HChjUyzAHms&t=34m There's quite a few more examples. These are just the ones that have stuck with me the most. Speaking of Gunstar Heroes, since other people are doing shameless plugs, I think I'll do some myself. First, playing around with the flame chaser (these are other examples of spelling or drawing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HChjUyzAHms&t=2m47s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HChjUyzAHms&t=4m8s The section after the Pong might be good for two player mayhem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HChjUyzAHms&t=22m52s That's actually a working shield. Blocks projectiles and everything. Some other moments that could be used? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HChjUyzAHms&t=10m37s One of my favorite sections in this run, the fight on the top of the ship. Lots of stuff here that takes a lof more precision than may be possible with a human player. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HChjUyzAHms&t=18m30s Those walkers usually take a bit of damage. And while I'm doing shameless plugs; here's a good example of death being used as a positive thing, and from what I can tell, probably the most blatant example on the entire site. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s8_688CU64&t=10m18s I can not find a single video where Batman is visible during his beginning stage flicker.

Luck Manipulation will be harder to show. I think any clip we do choose will rely on some knowledge of the game being played. I suggest Aria of Sorrow all souls for something, though. Here's a few sections. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfkJpzBoJ-M&t=6m53s The room with the kicker skeleton and the room after. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfkJpzBoJ-M&t=11m14s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfkJpzBoJ-M&t=15m30s Up until the Red Minotaur soul. I like this because he also manipulates a lot of souls he doesn't need (and doesn't bother to collect) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfkJpzBoJ-M&t=17m15s Through the room with the mirrors.

For unusual/fast movement, check out Legend of Zelda II and Battle of Olympus. Both of the runs involve tricks that involve overriding the speed cap. For dancing, the best dancing I've seen in a TAS is Journey to Silius before the boss fights.

Oddly enough I liked this one, and I usually hate RAM corruption TASes, including the first bootstrap TAS of this game. This one had a lot more fun to it. There's just something great about those dancing pis.

As with all rhythm games, this is not impressive when you have perfect timing on your side. Also this is only one level. This run should not be on the site at all. Slightly unrelated, I'm still somewhat interested in a low score run of one of these games.

Not going to help your cause. This run probably doesn't have a chance of being published, even with the new rules, because it fails to meet the goals it sets out to do.

I was planning on making this into a tool assisted walkthrough, but with the vault rules I might make it into a legitimate run. The file I posted is from the tool assisted walkthrough, which aims to be perfect, not optimized, meaning everything I try to pull off I do, but I didn't check every option to see if I had the fastest route. Let me know if you can see any improvements for movement or strategy. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/128090299/Teenage%20Mutant%20Ninja%20Turtles%20III%20-%20Radical%20Rescue%20%28U%29.vbm ROM used is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III - Radical Rescue (U)
