And thus, the four legendary Light Warriors set out on their epic adventure. The wind stopped. The sea was wild. And their hamstrings were mighty sore from perpetually scaling the stairways of Corneria Castle. Again and again they climbed...creating a time loop that warped them back to the beginning, when Chaos was a mere castle guard. He ran away. The world was saved. and a 'yes' vote was added.

I always keep it on. I used to barely be able to tolerate hearing the sound FX and musical score blurting out a frame at a time, but now it's not a big deal. In some cases, it also nicely helps me in catching certain sounds like an enemy being hit at the earliest possible frame, or the solution to a certain puzzle being activated.

Never make a deal with the devil. There's always a bit of...fine print that you never catch as you sign on the dotted line. Poor Chakan. Nice improvements on the run! Yes vote.

I'm getting a '404 Not Found' error when I click on the encode link... edit: I corrected the url, but now YouTube is stating the page isn't available. Anyways, I've never heard of this one. I'm interested in seeing your progress!

I played this game, just about non-stop, when it first came out. One of my all-time favorites, and I loved how effectively they kept up with the times (graphics, voice acting, professional orchestra score) while retaining the essence of the original games :) The trick in question involves rapidly entering and exiting the status menu, which "nudges" your character forward a bit and can be used to sequence break past forced storyline events. The SDA thread also mentions this trick and how it has some limited application in the NA release.

Another quirky mindset that has helped me in TASing is the idea that you're playing an entirely different video game, 1 frame at a time (with the goal of completing as fast as possible, of course).

Loads more content, this time! Two months in, and almost half the game completed. This will be a treat when it's all said and done :)

I can only agree with you on the part where a lot of the more popular 8/16-bit titles have been done (your Marios, Pokemons, Sonics, etc.). I can still think of a few off the top of my head for the NES, SNES, and Genesis that I'd still like to see a run made, though. With that said, there's still a lot of games (especially obscure ones) that still haven't been done. And with PSXHawk coming closer to completion, that's going to open up a whole new area for TASing.

Feos, all of my interactions with you on this website have been positive. You've judged and accepted many of my movies, and even offered a helping hand when I was having RNG issues with D & D: Warriors of the Eternal Sun. I really don't have any criticism against you concerning your "dark side". With that stated, do you think that you are currently feeling creatively 'burned out'?

I figured it boiled down to a timing issue, like having the money bag appear just as you're approaching the top ledge of it, as the enemy dies. From my observations, that would make the most sense (and would allow many other shortcuts, also). It actually reminds me of another anomaly within the game: Occasionally, you can jump and collide against the giant spiked boulders from underneath without taking any damage. It seems to only allow you to do so every other frame, though. I took advantage of it a few times in the Swamp Shrine, and might be able to find a use for it within Mir's Tower, as well. I also discovered Nigel can, very rarely it seems, also jump off of a smaller spiked boulder without taking damage (I stumbled across this in the Thieves Cave). I'm not sure exactly why the game allows this, either...

Really...? I could probably even use that on the return trip in that same room, after getting the garlic. Thanks for pointing that out, Ratfunk! I think there's going to be more and more creative solutions popping in the later game's dungeons (the Lake Shrine, especially, looks interesting). edit: Hmm. Can't seem to get a gold bag jump to work on the mimic. Maybe you have to time the kill just right? edit 1: No biggie, afterall! Found a faster method back up the stairs (Mimics jump pretty high, too...).

I didn't have a .rar extension available, so I compressed them all into a .zip folder. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1wwc6n2v1o6jyyf/Metal%20Force%20Atlas%20Maps.zip?dl=0 I may also submit them to vgmaps, as well (perhaps combined into full levels, per Aqfaq's suggestion).

No problem! By archive, do you mean placing all of the maps into one folder?

Hey guys, I made full atlas maps of Metal Force for our team during the competition and was wondering if they would be useful to post in a wiki article for this game?

I can see that perspective, but the issue there is that it only looks at the runs as a whole, not individual parts. Team 3 was last, but had first time placings in a few stages, so it makes sense to implement its runs of those stages to the final run. Your run was quite good overall, but nowhere did it excel over or another run, so it just happened to miss out. As for the stage 3 improvement, I felt it was already covered by the inclusion of teams SAC and TTT, and it didn't make sense to me to credit multiple other teams for just the same piece of input.
That does make sense, Mothrayas. I just had to broadcast my thoughts on it and get it off my chest. There's no hard feelings :)

I agree in principle with my teammate Samsara on this. Here's my perspective: By looking at the total co-authors, I'm noticing that teams 1, 3, 7 and Mothrayas are being credited. Now if going by terms of placement in the competition, the 1st place, 2nd place, 4th place, and last place teams are being credited with this submission. To me, that doesn't...seem right that our 3rd place team isn't getting any recognition here (especially going by Samsara's reasoning that multiple teams were credited with that Stage 3 improvement). Anyhow, that my two cents on it. Either way, I'm glad to see that combining the best inputs from everyone produced a better Metal Force run :)

This thread gave me an idea. How about linking all of the game wikis along with the corresponding resource page?
It can just be labeled 'Game Wiki'
And, if the community thinks it's a good idea, you can include all of a current publication's known improvements within the Wiki section. Long-term, I believe this would be a smart idea over having a singular thread with potentially dozens of publication posts to sift through (which will also become obsoleted, themselves, over time).
