I think this kind of thinking stems from the attempt at guilt-tripping people for completely normal behavior, in order to make them feel like they are doing something bad and need redemption.
Did it make you feel guilty?

Don't worry. It is not a big deal. You're not wasting anyone's time. You are creating content for people to enjoy. Improving your own submission is just part of the creation process. It is called "Workbench" for a reason. :) I actually think submitting a run will increase the player's ability to find improvements, because the player becomes more conscious of what he is doing. Or maybe it is because after the recording is over, the player frees his attention from the technical stuff and sees the whole picture more clearly. I recall this happening to my submissions a quite a few times. I don't know why. Maybe there is a slight increase in the production of stress hormones, adrenaline or something in our brains, which enhances our senses? I have often spotted an obvious mistake immediately after submitting my run.
It's the craziest thing, because that's exactly what happened to me. Just before logging off and going to bed, I had this odd feeling of "Wait a sec...this really looks improvable". And sure enough, I soon afterwards found a spot where I could activate 'Hidden' on the first try.

It'll take some time to input the route again, due to RNG. On top of all that, I also just found a way to get 'Hidden' to activate on the first try. With all that mind, I'm going to go ahead and cancel the submission. I'll learn from this, keep my head up, and produce a better run in the near future. Thanks, everyone!

Well done! Looking forward to your next RPG speedwalk!
Thanks, Aqfaq. :) Unfortunately guys, I just realized that I made a serious blunder in regards to the Azcan over-world fight skip. As it turns out, you only need to save/reload one time immediately after the game spawns the enemies. I just tested it, and it can also be easily done in real-time. I really jumped the gun on this and feel that I've wasted everyone's time by overlooking this :/ It's a 376 frame improvement that I don't want to leave uncorrected... FractalFusion, can I go ahead and cancel this submission?

I don't know if it's because I'm used to working on hour+ long RPGs, but this one just 'clicked' for me. It was actually nice to work on a shorter project :)

Good question on that. The small life gains near the end were due to me leveling up. It really came in handy in the final area, since it allowed me to take a hit from the last Chimera to save time. Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Early Memorial Day update. 8660 frames saved, so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/52794223/WOTES%20Azcan%20fight%20demo.gmv This WIP plays all the way to the Azcan Jungle and demonstrates the Azcan overworld fight skip I was hyping about. I freely moved about afterward to demonstrate that the fight won't respawn again. (obviously this won't be part of the final run). Enjoy! edit: As an added bonus, I tried sequence breaking even further by going directly to the Oltec Cavern from the beginning of the game (even tool-asssited, this wasn't easy!). Unfortunately, the programers had the same thought I had in mind...

Thanks, grassini! Hope you enjoy the run! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/289473282/Dungeons%20%26%20Dragons%20-%20Warriors%20of%20the%20Eternal%20Sun%20%28USA%2C%20Europe%29.gmv Is anyone savvy at finding RAM addresses? This WIP ends up losing 766 frames (down to 2633 frames saved) due to me having to cast 'Hidden' six times in a row in order for it work. It seems have no success rate, whatsoever, while inside dungeons. I spent over two hours trying to narrow down RAM addresses, to no avail. Otherwise, I saved 123 frames inside the Beastman Caves. I may try to tighten this part up a bit before heading back to the Castle. If anyone can provide any help, I'd greatly appreciate it! edit: Went back a bit, just after leaving the Oltec Bypass, and managed to activate it in only three attempts. Not ideal, but it's a little more tolerable.

Thanks for the encouragement, Aqfaq! 3399 frames saved, so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1024509020/Dungeons%20%26%20Dragons%20-%20Warriors%20of%20the%20Eternal%20Sun%20%28USA%2C%20Europe%29.gmv Lots of improvements and small optimizations. Talking to Marmillian the first time wasn't necessary. No shopping or uncovering hidden items was done in town, either. Almost six seconds were saved on the overworld due to optimizations and a faster route. Inside the Oltec Tradeway Cavern, I only took the +1 bow for the Thief and the first mound of jewelry in order to pay for a Caravan route, later on. I also killed off the other three members since going solo with the Thief will be much faster. I spent about 20 extra frames making feeble attacks toward the Dragon and Fire Giant. I thought it will be a little more entertaining to have something going on while I waited in combat for them to strike. Overall, this run is looking very promising. Like abusing Bellenue in my Traysia run, having the Thief rapid-fire critical shots should end up being faster than using the Lightning Rod and waiting for the charges to fizzle. I also can't wait to show off the Azcan overworld fight skip!

Thinking about improving this one. An SDA user named Apr Gren, a little while back, found an exploit with the Thief class that allows you to inflict critical shots every time in combat while in a dungeon. Apr Gren's Speedrun tutorial video (18:55 shows the exploit in action): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xybySf-mUIc&feature=youtu.be SDA thread: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/just_starting_a_dungeons_and_dragons_warriors_of_the_eternal_sun_speed_run_.html I also just discovered a way to completely bypass the Azcan Temple overworld fight. By the looks of it, getting an improvement of sub 25:00 isn't out of the question. :)

I agree w/ Alacorn that your running strategy doesn't appear to be optimized. For instance, there were spots where you jumped on enemies when it looked like you could have damage boosted, instead. Can the spindash only be used when you're hit? All in all, it was alright for what it was (a sub-par pirated game). I gave it a 'meh' vote. edit: I also noticed that you posted your WIPs on the homepage pretty fast. It would've been better to seek feedback in the forums, first, before submitting.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Believe it or not, that's how the sound actually plays on the console. I noticed that clipping noise, too, when I was younger and played it for the first time. I'm guessing the composer just faced software limitations when creating a kickdrum effect. edit: Just dug out an old copy of Traysia. It definitely does the same thing on a console.

Really? I didn't notice any differences between the ROM and the console version. Is it doing anything different from the old WIP I linked to?

I'm digging the run so far. A few things I noted while watching the marketplace segment:
Since you've gotta wait, maybe you could allow some of the dialogue scenes to play out (e.g. the guy who gets struck by lightning)? I noticed that the orange armored guard by the rice stand is shifty-eyed. I think it would be amusing if you made fun of that by walking past and miming him with your movements.
Other than that, looking forward to watching the Verm-skip!

Just wanted to also chime in that it's best to post these runs first in their respective forums to obtain feedback from the community. TASing games like Super Mario World is a very ambitious goal, and will likely become a long-term investment in order to create a publish worthy run. With that said, I hope you continue working on this, or any other games that interest you!

Just watched your movie on BizHawk. I have some feedback on a couple of things, in which I'll touch on. I'm sure more experienced TASers will be able to explain some details better than I. When I loaded your movie file, the first thing I noticed was your low rerecord count (31). This is fine for now since your run is a WIP, but this shows me that there's still a lot of work needed for finding optimization. In general, it looks like the boss battles and your use of auto-fire and positioning can be done faster. Have you experimented with the game's power-ups to find the best combination for speed? Also, since Phelios is an auto-scroller this really gives you an opportunity to focus on entertainment! If you haven't already, I recommend checking out Adelikat's run of Gradius http://tasvideos.org/711M.html to get an idea of some things that you can throughout the various stages. One last thing: You can stop your movie as soon as you make your last decisive input (e.g. landing the last shot on the final boss). Recording all the way through the game's ending and credits isn't normally required - and adds unnecessary time to your run. Hope this feedback helps!

Finished! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/74307530/Traysia%20TAS.gmv https://www.dropbox.com/s/3rt23zwhxpm3y2c/Traysia%20Ch.%205.gs9 (Save state for Ch. 5). Floyd took a ton of hits, but still quickly fell to Edgar's Bellenue's auto-crossbow. Roy and Traysia are now finally reunited, and set to live happily ever after... BIG QUESTION, though. Both the ending and credits allow for input. Holding down the 'A' button through both will speed past the dialogue. This may be a 'duh' question, but am I required to speedrun through the ending to save on time?

How's it going, Scoboose? Welcome to the forums! I can't seem to download your file. When I copy and paste your URL, all I get is a page listing your total input. You should be able to upload BizHawk movie files here: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php Look forward to watching your run!

Ch. 4 finished! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1404337418/Traysia%20TAS.gmv Had to go back and re-do the last half of Ch. 3. Specifically, I obtained the Gold Mirror in the Town of Thieves and the Gold Shield in the Devil's Temple in order to purchase a Black Arrow for Bellenue in Ch. 4. The added attack power was sorely needed, as I was only putting out a measly 25-30 damage against the Black Dragon - equating to over 80 rounds in playtesting. The Black Arrow cut that number down to a far more reasonable amount. 'Queen of the Witches' got put in her place in a timely manner, as well. ...very buggy chapter (even for this game's standards). Anyhow, this story is about to come to an end. Roy misses his sweetheart Traysia, while Benegie is getting a little hot & bothered. 'Atta boy, Roy.
If only you knew, Roy...She'd tear that armor off you in a heartbeat.

Man, I hear you on the motivation issues. I had to take about a week off from my current project before diving back in. So on the 50/50 chance stuff, you don't think you could narrow down a specific frame where the whole glitch will work, and not crash the game? (Thinking about it, I realize a one-frame difference involves a ton of variables...)

I gave it a 'meh'. There were some pretty entertaining kills with the well-timed bazooka shots, and such. I also liked what you did in the 2nd round with the clusterbomb chain kills. Still, two rounds was a little much for me. Maybe a future run could condense down the round times some? And as Aqfaq and Spikestuff stated, there are some lingering optimization issues you'll need to address.
