Good Job - Yes vote of course. However, I'll still add the same opinion I added when I viewed your WIP. I wish you would have purchased the large shield instead of a second bait in the very last shop before the last dungeon. It would have given the complete "all item" look. (even though yes, technically, the large shield can be lost if it's eaten by a Like-Like)

From the game screen: This game is for use in all countries excluding the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, and Japan umm.... Why?? Is this video game like some of those "International Versions" of textbooks only to be sold NOT in the U.S.? Seriously - anyone got an answer for this? Just curious.

Fun Fact: This video has 58 seconds of input. 21 of those seconds are just waiting to get to the title screen to start the game.

Awesome! Would it be possible to speed up the unseen fight by dying a couple more times in turbo tunnel?
I would like to ask that question as well. It seemed like you had to force the game over by killing him a couple of times. It seems he could die in level 3 on the way to the hovercraft? racers, and then just die once in the "final" fight.

Question: Why did you spend time getting the mushroom and fireflower in 3-3? You don't appear to use/need them, and you get the fireflower bonus after the boss anyway.

I'm pretty familiar with this game - it appears that most of the time saved is from a different route. Due to the location of the items and Goonies (combined with the map layout), this game will require a bit of backtracking, or at least visiting the same area a couple of times. It just depends on how you want to backtrack (get jumping shoes or not). I agree with Dwedit (I think) and don't really like the Nico run. I already stated so in the Goonies II thread. I also don't think it's valid to compare Metroid (which uses a controller-restart sequence) to the Nico run (which resets the game, goes back to the game menu, and enters a new password each time in the password screen). I vote yes for this one. I'm not sure how I would vote if someone submitted a Nico-style run.

Well, here ya go. I got bored and so I decided to make a list of all the U/E games without TASes. Some of these games may have a TAS, but it was rejected because of being sloppy or such. Some games may not be on here because they have TASes that were rejected because of poor game choice. I took this list off of wikipedia and individually searched each one on TASVideos. Some may have non TASVideos TASes, but at this point I'm not sure. Some of these games may not make good TASes, but since I haven't seen any on it, its up to you to decide which are good. Also, may have mistakes. Correct me if I'm wrong. http://pastebin.com/rwGJNyAF
Your post missed at least a couple of games: Rambo Breakthru I know this because I submitted TASes for these games. While the TASes were well done, they were rejected for being a "bad game choice". This also is the reason for my Golgo 13 TAS rejection. Unless the site's goals change, I don't think we'll ever see a TAS of every NES game. Right now, entertainment is valued highly enough that some games will never be accepted at the site.

Here's a the current progress status: I am now in the 8th dungeon. It requires a lot of enemy manipulation to get quickly through the dungeon. Cause there are in every room enemies I've to kill or damage boosting I have to make a good planning of the item drop, in order to refill energy or bombs. I have 10 heart containers. The next dungeon is number 2.
I assume you picked up arrows on the way to the dungeon. Did you also get the intermediate sword? Picking up the Master Key should save a lot of time that would otherwise have been used in the remaining dungeons, even compared to the any% TAS. I even wonder if it would be beneficial to visit dungeon 8 even sooner to get this item earlier.

I was kind of hoping this run would be more like this - force the white mage to do something different.
I have a "limited assistance" run which you may be interested in. I posted the .fcm file in the Final Fantasy forum a few pages back. It was over 5 hours with only ~2,000 re-records. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXdz99gZi3g There is the link to part 1/8 of the Youtube upload. I had a "true" solo white wizard (in the sense that 3 other characters had zero exp points at the game's end). I also did not use the Bane sword (except on Tiamat, who is weak against Bane anyway, and can be killed by it easily in a non-TAS setting).

Just watched (with some fast forward during grinding... although I loved your grinding method on the mountain with the icy slides) Yes vote - you clearly have a commanding knowledge of this game. Leveling up to 16 on the very last enemy before the 2nd to last boss. Nice.

How much of that time saved is due to shorter text in the (J) rom? I think that precedent on the site says: 1. Use the (U) rom *in most cases* 2. Shorter text is not a valid reason to use (J) rom A while ago, there was some interest in redoing the Goonies II movie. Time can be saved in certain areas by selective death. (It may change the floating platform timing in your favor, or start you in a spot beyond where you died).

Has anyone else noticed that on the nicozon video that the word "BITCH" (yes, all capital letters) scrolls across the top of the video at 00:36?

Great job, and yes vote. Two questions/comments. 1. Question: Since you are 1 frame away from a 21 frame rule in 1-1, does this mean you have 20 free frames to play with? Could the mushroom in 1-1 be grabbed, saving time (and gaining a frame rule) somewhere else? 2. Comment: It's crazy that world 1-1 is the only place in the game where going in a pipe saves time.

. I apologize if I'm posting a little late in this party, but I voted yes, and here is my reasoning why. I think it's more impressive to see the 00:22 at the end of the game than the 00:23 in the current movie. Most people will watch this encode on Youtube anyway, and I don't think most people will care if the old movie Youtube length was 42:56 and this movie is 43:23 (including the short 3 second intro made by Saturn). When a game has an in-game timer, and emphasizes the in-game timer by actually SHOWING it to you at the finale, I think preference should go to the in-game time movie. .

Won't be useful in a TAS of this game, but this video is pretty amazing/funny. Fast forward to 3:24 to get to the good part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUT47Za7lPY Spoiler: Chaos runs away.

Maybe some of this will be answered in the submission text when it arrives, but I would like to know how much time was saved/lost in boss battles by using the cross instead of holy water. Also, when the mummy at the top of the clocktower was defeated, you still had one heart left. Did that add any time? Nice work on the Grim Reaper!

Isnt the strategy of using a password as a warp like in the video already used in TASes publidhed here? I know for sure that [1685] NES The Legend of Zelda by Baxter & jprofit22 in 22:38.13 & [1144] NES Metroid by Lord Tom in 08:19.32 use them so I dont see any harm of allowing them here.
I still don't think it's the same. In Zelda and Metroid, an in-game restart or backtrack keypress sequence is used. In the (J) Goonies II video, he actually enters a separate password screen accessed from the title screen. It would be like resetting halfway through a run of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and then going to this screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wyZWOA8nHs Or resetting in Metroid to get to this screen: http://media.photobucket.com/image/metroid%20password%20screen/Elkovsky/NES%2520pics/Metroid_003.png Or using this in any Megaman game: http://multimedia.cx/eggs/images/megaman2-password-screen.png Anyway, you get the idea.

I just watched the WIP, and it looks great. However, I have a question. (Sorry if this was addressed somewhere else...) Why are you using the Japanese version of the game? Isn't that against the site rules?

I'm not sure the strategy used in that Goonies video would be accepted at this site. He's going around, getting items, saving Goonies, and then dying to get a password. He uses that password to warp back to the beginning to prevent backtracking. However, the password could be used at the beginning of the movie without collecting the Goonies in the first place. If the site thinks this strategy can be used, then Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest would have some big improvements as well.

NICE work. The refills were creatively picked up, and didn't take away from the flow of the movie at all. I'm looking forward to seeing the next level (which has the best music in the game).

This is great so far. My only fear is that the Wily stages won't be as entertaining since weapons management and conservation will become an issue and you won't be able to use as much variety in your attack. I forget - when using an M or W tank, does it take a long time to refill, or is it instant? Are you planning on buying some items before Wily?

I was actually very entertained by the 100 lives TAS. If it were submitted to this site, I would vote yes for a publication as a concept/demo.

I vote yes - very entertaining. Thought process: "Oh.. going into lower Norfair... is this a reverse-boss-order? No.. he already killed Kraid. Wait a minute, he didn't even get Speed Booster or Charge Beam yet.. I guess he's going to get Screw Attack. Makes sense, I guess. Hmm, why fight Golden Torizo? .... Wait, what?" . Anyway, if there isn't enough room to add more SM categories, I think this "glitch" (debug code, whatever) is much more entertaining than the other SM glitch movie with 15 minutes of X-Ray scoping through walls, game resets, and skipping Mother Brain. If it comes down to it, I would be in favor of this glitch run replacing the X-ray glitch run, even though the other run has a lower in-game time.

I'm confused about the first screen in 4-3. Why do you keep going up and and the ladder? Does it somehow manipulate the baby birdo to shoot an egg faster or something?
