I played through Phantasy Star IV several times growing up, especially when out of school sick. Watching it obliterated in 20 minutes was surreal and wonderful. ALYS DOESN'T DIE!!! SO awesome to see her wandering around with the others in The Edge. Incredible job, pleasure to watch! Easy yes vote.

"Did you find this movie entertaining?" YES, absolutely. No idea how it'd be categorized if published, but the near-constant glitching of the game is hilarious and wildly entertaining IMO, and I didn't notice any obvious lapses in optimization -- though I've never made a TAS myself, so if there are significant technical errors I surely missed them.

i remember spending weeks gradually working my way through this game 15 years ago, never thought for a moment that it might be possible to complete it in only 1:26. very clever improvements, silver tusk change surprised me. i look forward to watching later.

Just realized that Yoshi actually tongues and then spits out the goal ring. Incredible. I really, sincerely hope this sets up a future Yoshi's Island playaround run, akin to the Link's Awakening playaround, like maybe Yoshi could swallow signposts and components of the stage select dialog next.

"Not good enough for wizard!" All i can think is, wow, what an asshole programmer. Run looks good to me, voted yes. As an aside, is the "good" ending really so incredible that it warrants playing through the game more than once?

agree that next time you should propose the run in the appropriate forum or on IRC before submitting. i'd also recommend tapping said resources for general TASing guidance and support. no vote for the reasons stated above (i'm too cool to write something original), but please do try again. welcome to the site.

What I don't get is whether or not this run would be faster IRL, i.e. console-verified. If I have two GBCs, plug the previous Yellow input file into one and this into the other, and start them simultaneously, does this one get to the credits first? EDIT: Thanks Patashu and p4wn3r for the responses. I'm voting yes primarily because I figure that although the # frames saved simply by using an alternative emulator is only 2, all that really matters -- to me at least -- is that this run is faster, and *theoretically* could be console-verified, albeit in practice this would be incredibly difficult. As I understand it, the nature of the GBC hardware implies that, in general, the overall length of a GBC TAS is dependent not only on the ROM and input, but also on the host emulator's deterministic implementation of the GBC's nondeterministic elements, and therefore, this sort of emulator-only obsoletion is just going to happen every now and again. ... or maybe I've got it completely wrong. =^P

I vote yes. I think it was entertaining enough to at least get into the vault. In fact, I'd be shocked if this didn't even make it to the vault, because it's a clever (albeit slow-paced but not exceedingly) playaround of a game with a lazy answer validation algorithm, and doesn't rip off the Family Feud TAS. Overall, I think the quality & entertainment value here is easily as good as or better than the average vaulted run, and I'm having trouble understanding why it's being judged so harshly. (edit) just read c-square's comment below. I guess it makes sense that playarounds are ineligible for the vault, but I think it's unfortunate that this is probably gonna be gruefood. =P oh well, at least it's on youtube.

floating rapidfire air punch + bad sound effects made this funnier than i was expecting. nonetheless, blah blah speed goal in fighting game blah blah vault.

I feel the same. Establishing the theoretically shortest completion time for a fighting game is IMO not terribly interesting; the entertainment value pales in comparison to the glitchfests we've seen in featured MK runs. At best, maybe it should be put in the vault, even if solely for record-keeping purposes... meh.

game is really boring to watch, but the run looks optimized to my untrained eye, so my vote is to vault this one

I grew up playing loads of Tekken, and IMO this is not as entertaining as watching a skilled playthrough in real time, so voting no. For a game such as this, I'd really prefer to see creativity take priority over practicality. In general, watching a fighting game get beaten with superhuman speed isn't nearly as interesting to me as watching it done with extreme (yet classy) exhibitionism.

By the way, the actual VBM file crashes VBA at frame 44077, around where execution of the payload would normally begin in bortreb's TAS.
Well, you're doing something wrong then, probably interference from antivirus software or something. Check your firewall settings, and make sure all of your speakers are plugged in.
