Looked good to me. I don't suppose a camhack encode that keeps the marble onscreen would be possible?
I second this, but is such a thing even possible?

Once again, I am foiled by the submission text that I didn't read. =P Sorry!! And about the youtube playlist, yeah, I wasn't really careful about verifying that it was the correct one. Boy, I'm just full of useless, counter-productive information today, sorry everyone!

FYI the youtube playlist is: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=26BC57B9E5B2930A (the link in the submission text just points to youtube.com) I thought this was OK. Overall, I got the impression that reasonable attention was paid to making it optimal, though it seems there are many instances in which a stream of shots is fired aimlessly, which gets annoying quickly because the "fire" sound - along with most of the other sound effects ("Ya-Hooo!!!") - is obnoxious, and the music, when I could hear it over the effects, really just made matters worse IMHO. All things considered, I think there's a satisfactory amount of entertainment here, and the run is short, so I vote yes... hesitantly.

WTF?? Wow, this redefines pwn-age for me. At first I was rolling my eyes at another MK submission, but it's quite good. Yes.

Anytime you do a first frame wall kick, you are starting a chain of HSWK
a chain doesn't exist with just 1 piece, ever saw "1 hit combo" in fighting games?
I said starting a chain.
you can't start something that doesn't happen
I also said that with the clear intention of Mario wall kicking more than once.
no you didn't, nice try saving yourself =_=
OMG guys, take it up on IRC before I do a backward long jump and wall kick you both

Technically competent and impressive, but I vote gruefood delight, and agree that avoiding side BLJs isn't a terrific goal choice. I mean, come on, let the poor guy have his BLJ, he runs around all day trying to save some stupid princess that we all know is hot for Bowser, and what does he get? Nothing. Poor Mario deserves our sympathy, but instead we consider taking away his BLJ! Not cool. EDIT: Just wanted to add that I personally prefer goals that clearly define only the ultimate result, e.g. "get to credits" or "get to credits with all stars". Goals that expressly restrict the means of achieving that result are, I think, less interesting - in this case the whole BLJ issue - because they leave a little less room for innovative improvement of the run later. Thus, historical reasons aside, I, the viewer, don't really get what's particularly special or interesting about grabbing 16 stars when we already have a means of getting to the credits with zero stars. I think we're pretty well-covered with "get to credits ASAP" and "get to credits w/ 100% completion ASAP" goals.

The megaman run is so f*d, sometimes I watch it just for some cheering up =) <3 <3 [1686] NES Mega Man by Shinryuu & finalfighter in 12:23.34 <3 <3 My favorite part is the DelayStageClear glitch @ 10:21, when a glitched-out megaman is just standing there as the game makes weird, random doot-doot-doot sounds, as though pleading for mercy.

I vote yes on any run that contains the submission text "I need at least big Mario to crush the credits block in the depths of the garbage". I thoroughly enjoy watching any game get turned on its head and kicked down a flight of stairs, and this is no exception. Thanks for brightening my day. =) Andymac: is that a toaster wearing a santa cap?

Ditto. The game is super boring to watch, TAS or no, but as this improves an already-published run of it, I'm compelled to vote yes. If the question of bad game choice weren't already answered, I'd probably vote otherwise. =^p

Yeah seriously, I can't believe no one else noticed this. I too am compelled to vote no. I just can't support a run that doesn't throw away master balls, score 99 goals, or - at the very least - complete the game with MissingNo.

Truly a great "Lowest Score" run. I vote yes on any submission that ends with "Rating: Error."

As a direct response to Nach's comment, this fails as a speedrun (obviously, too much waiting) ... I'd suggest removing the lowest-score goal, and abandon all pretence that it's a speedrun
This sort of argument keeps appearing in the thread, and I totally disagree with it, because even though there is a lot of waiting, by definition this is absolutely a speedrun, as it achieves a specific, well-defined goal in the shortest time possible. To get the lowest score, waiting until the timer reaches zero is necessary. There are many published movies on this site that deliberately take a longer route and/or have unavoidable waiting periods for the sake of accomplishing a goal other than the standard Get-To-The-Credits-ASAP. I really think this meets all technical qualifications for publication in its current form, and the only matter to debate is whether it's just a boring goal choice - and I think it would be if not for the top-notch playaround entertainment - but I guess the current vote tally suggests most feel otherwise (bleah).

I read Nach's notes and can understand how there really is no obvious "correct" decision. Since I first saw the run, my personal take has always been that - as there is neither a rule that clearly justifies nor disqualifies its publication - it should be published on the grounds that it is fucking awesome, and while it's true that a little editing would produce a fine goal-less playaround, I think achieving a well-defined and difficult goal within the context of a game as classic as Super Mario Bros is reason enough to leave it in its current form. That said, I will be SAD if this run is consumed by the grue, and never again sees the light of day, because I really think it's quite special and deserves to be published SOMEwhere - even if it's concept-land.

I thought this was HYSTERICAL, and despite being repeated many times, the arsenal of glitches showcased was sufficiently varied to remain entertaining *enough* throughout. I don't think a "lowest score" run could possibly be any more action-packed than this, and for a game as classic as SMB1, I think "lowest score" is a reasonable and well-defined, albeit bizarre, goal. At the very least I really, really hope this run lives on SOMEhow, whether as a playaround or otherwise. =) EDIT: The mushroom/hammer brothers circus act in 8-3 is epic, I think the run deserves a YES just to ensure future visitors to the site will have a chance to see that.

While the run in itself seems technically and aesthetically up to par, I think it lacks a truly awe-inspiring quality that could justify publication despite it being (1) loaded from a save state, and (2) completion of only part of the game, with (1) being the biggest problem. I appreciate the effort that went into the run, but sorry, my vote is no.

In case this is ever useful to someone - to get the SMV file to play in snes9x (1.52 or 1.51), I had to use a hex editor to change the value of the 5th byte from '5' to '4'. <3 this TAS!!

An epic playaround. After a few minutes of that, I wouldn't have been surprised if Sub Zero glitched into Pikachu and began firing telephones at the other guy. Yes for sure.

This is awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the virtually uninterrupted ass-kicking. Like adelikat said, Simpsons really showcases what can be accomplished with four players, and I think that characteristic in particular makes it especially worthy of publication - though I too was getting sick of the "now play friendly!!"
