That would be interesting. Once I finish the test run, I could certainly use the hand of an expert with LUA

One suggestion. Not sure if is was tested, but after Ryu is grown old and you go to the field with the pit trap before sin city, you can fight goo titans there in groups of 3 I believe. Wouldn't it have been faster to gain some levels from fighting a single group of 3 there to build Ryu's str on levelup so Last resort and Focus weren't necessary during some fights? This would save a few turns if the str gain was enough.
Hmm... Focus doubles (or at least, ups 50%) attack. How many of those would I have to fight to raise my level enough to avoid focus? The lavaman trick took well over 3 minutes to do...

w/o mashing, a character sometimes miss or does less damage. By mashing, the hit is successful, stronger, or maybe even critical/combo. also, what characters do (magic/attack/defense) also seems to influence other characters

It's been years since I've played this game, and I never was able to beat it so I'm looking forward to this one. Just wondering, does mashing the X key (or whatever key is used for selecting) right before a character attacks increase the chances for a critical? I always thought it did while I played it (actually it gave the impression that it increased the chances for criticals and blocks/counterattacks) but I could never 100% confirm it.
it influences the outcome of the fight, but not necessarily critical. In some instances, the character missed a hit w/o the x mashing and sucessuflly hit the monster (but not critically) after mashing x

https://rapidshare.com/files/458375529/movie.pxm on my way to zalagoon. Although I do fight, I will see if it's useful. After all, the first boss fight is against a 600 hp mosnter. Unless I can find enough fire-base items... I might go for what seems to be a vase glitch in the pirate town

nah, not representative of the game. I suggested the Angel Tower glitch and Deis fighting Garr naked (the exact frame is listed in the submission)

I guess I'm nostalgic :P. Seriously, it's still working well. I guess I will wait for it to be outdated (like Znes 1.43).
Manipulating hits and blocks, avoiding random enounters, and developing boss strategies, I imagine, would be the primary goals.
yup. It doesn't seem 100% accurate; hell, sometimes the x-maxhins sequence actually makes the enemy do critical attacks!

I can't help but think you picked up some unneeded parts during the parts salvaging segment to fix up the boat. But other than that the whole run was a good watch, so I'm voting yes.
actually, everything is useful. I can't miss any part, as the drawing shows.
janus, I've noticed you don't seem to talk much about how you do luck manipulation. Do you use lua scripts? Do everything by hand? How does the RNG in the BOF series work?
I do everything by hand. As far as the RNG works : from what I found, item drop in BOF 3 depends on the action taken during battle and the probability of dropping. The gooking sword is dropped at 1/256, which is why i didn't get it

https://rapidshare.com/files/458194351/movie.pxm first wip of this game. Battles seem avoidable up to a certain point (they happen on specific squares), and escape/critical hits/defend seem manipulable in certain ways

As a side note, this is one of the funniest parts of a game ever:
si I reckon you chose this frame?

don't worry, I'll get to that game after doing Beyond the Beyond, which should be shorter. Hell, I want my revenge on those ?$(?*&%( dice

IIRC, Janus said when FreshFeeling did commentary for his (currently) published Phantasy Star IV run that he wasn't going to do his own commentary because English is not his first language.
true. If anyone wants to comment my run, go ahead

You give it meh because you don't want to watch it? That's a weird reason so you would give a meh to Final Fantasy 7-8, which will probably be as long? to others : don't be fooled by the duration. You can watch it under 2 hours by fast-forwarding dialogues and slowing it down during fights

https://rapidshare.com/files/457902374/movie.pxm this is, I believe, the best that can be done for this game. I haven't picked any equipment (not even the dragon gear), i didn't pick up the last ivory dice and only get the dragon armour last frame of fight : 1663223

ain't no one gonna beat me down :p https://rapidshare.com/files/457642641/movie.pxm at the expense of 1k frames, I was able to use 2 ivory dice against teepo (60k experience, up to level 37). Let's see if it's worth it. If not, I will not get that one before the chimaera btw, I was able to catch up the delay i had on the ship. about 4-5k frames ahead now

https://rapidshare.com/files/457444242/movie.pxm back in kombinat. for some reason I can't explain, I lsot 2000 frames for the booster counter. Otherwise, everything is either shorter or on time

Hmm... taking the force gene takes about 2300 frames. Not using warrior takes 700 frames more for angler and 350 for arwan... but 200 less for amonites. Oh well, one less worry. And if what you say is true, Mastania, then using the Goo King sword is useless? After all, it would be used for only 1 or 2 fights...

but I'm pretty sure your Pwr is maxed out.
indeed. So I have to try to make ryu even stronger (or get the damn goo king sword). And since the maximum damage is 9999, i don't think I can kill her in less than 3 rounds
Didn't you use it for Angler and the Ammonites as well?
yes, my bad, I have to test without it (and calculate how long it takes to get the gene)

http://rapidshare.com/files/456858403/movie.pxm no, I don't need the trance gene nor do I need wisdom fruits. Hell, I only need the warrior gene once. I have to recalculate if it's worth getting... the myria fight was 300 frames shorter

http://rapidshare.com/files/456775074/movie.pxm many changes before going to Caer Xhan - I saved 10k frames in the desert by not wasting time drinking water or sleepin - Both Manmo and the Elder were much shorter thanks to a stronger ryu (who barely needs last resort)

http://rapidshare.com/files/456622473/movie.pxm jsut crossed the ocean. Mastania (or whoever) was right : aura is much quicker against Angler. And I believe I did much better against amonites with an EX turn. finally, walking alonside walls isn't infallible to avoid battles...
