because, just like BOF 2, I want to publish first. I will try the alternative method after (for BOF 2, it<S the meow staff. here, it<s demi) EDIT http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/670652005/Phantasy%20Star%20IV%20%284%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv corrected a little so only 2 attacks are necessary for the final hit

janus, I noticed around Lashiec that you use a Fire Storm macro with Kyra and Rune, with Rune using Hewn and Kyra using Gifoi. There might be a reason you did it this way (TP or level or something), but it'll be stronger if you use Hewn with Kyra and Gifoi with Rune. Kyra's Hewn is stronger than Rune's by 48 base points, factoring in the increased damage from Lashiec's fire weakness it could make a turn or two of difference (~72 damage per Fire Storm). Even Kyra's Hewn + Rune's Flaeli should be stronger than Rune's Hewn + Kyra's Gifoi (by 24 base points, ~36 damage per Fire Storm). .
i do intend to do another run, with demi that time. Once she<s resurected from megid, she can resurect everyone AND yield about 150 damage. i will keep it in mind

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/874059850/Phantasy%20Star%20IV%20%284%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv this is it! notwithstanding the superfluous macro ( I will redo it to exclude it), is it publishable?

that's why I prefer Demi. Wren would use the repair kit on her, and the turn after, she resurects everyone. PLus, she doesn't run out of magic And because I level up so little, Kyra still doesn't have warla. unless I use the moon dew from the courage tower...

letting raja survive is a one in a million shot. I think I have the solution : a repair-kit. I will backtrack to kuran to find one, and I will get Demi as a fifth party member. Her medical power can resurect humanoids.

The subsequent fight (ze-la-thoul) was worse - at the entrance of the soldier'S temple, i didn't miss anything. I press left as soon as I entered; i suppose the designers were drunk - I waited the fateful 1 frame before escaping the rykros towers, which was shorter.

I noticed today that when you're getting Kyra from the carnivorous plants you drive the ice digger directly into the forest. This causes two lines of dialog where Chaz says "we can't get through". If you get out of the ice digger the space before and walk into the trees you can skip this. I'm pretty sure it's faster to walk those two spaces and skip the two lines of dialog, but it's got to be less than a second.
it aws indeed quicker, but the xe-la-thoul battle was simply horrible after that. i won't change it

There are also two little single-tile changes from the optimal path on the first floor of the solider temple island
if you're talking at the very beginning, I think the path is optimal. I press left as soon as I entered. Might have another look.. doN,t worry fuzzerd, I will look at your suggestion ;). However, if I run out of recover (he has 18), I might go down the courage tower after the boss to get the guard armour.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/232057204/Phantasy%20Star%20IV%20%284%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv this is (almost) it! comments? suggestions against PD? in case you wonder : with a silver shield and the guard robe, raja can survive. this way, he resurects rune, and in the following turn, everyone has revived. PD 3 casts megid only once; the rest of the time, he can simple attack wren

fresfeeling will deserve credits when I publish. I just had to go down one floor! let's now see how I withstand megid... ps : if 'tis the right run, I will rework rykros. I believe I can avoid healing in the courage tower

mmm.... If I ever get out of Rykros, I will find out if I can withstand megid. If not, I will harvest equipment

Then again, I'm not sure how well the team will do against Megid. I thought you would have Rune go two-shield much earlier. But I imagine you either have a plan or you'll be able to manipulate things effectively.
shields only give physical defense. to withstand megid, I need mental power... and a lot of HP

The Mota-Ring you win from De-Vars will give Rika half damage from Sa-Lews' Flaeli, which might save a couple of heals. Plus it's a minor stat boost.
that's what I did. If I finally find the solution, that's what will appear
At the start of the soldier temple island cave, it seems you step off the optimal path by one tile. Is there a reason for that
mmm... I would have to look. However, I don't think it will make a difference. the AI is so inconsistent
(a) actually equip the rings or (b) walk down the first stairs from the top floor of the two towers.
a doesn't work. let's see b)...

i can't have leroof appear. I pick all the rings of the star, wait one or more frames before opening the menu screen and he doesn't appear. Even when I do it normally (not frame by frame), he doesn't show up

before OPENING THE MENU, not before teleporting. also the first frame after the text box disappears is a lag frame so you can't open the menu then. leave one non-lag frame after opening the chest before opening the menu
i did it, and it still doesn't work. what now, even by doing it as if it were on the Genesis console, it's not working

switiching position takes 70 frames. changing twice in the menu (i need to go to simafort) would probably take longer

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/151038396/Phantasy%20Star%20IV%20%284%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv a few changes in strategy made me save 1300 frames right before the garuberk tower. I was able to survive with only one silver shield!

So he clearly did not need to attack himself, wasting a few frames for the attack's animation
hmmm... Unless it was because defending would have made it impossible for Katt to kill him, i should rework that. I do intend to make another version. That is, if getting the Meow staff saves frames. I might try to work the skycave glitch also...
Also, when in Wildcat Restaurant, you have the party change its leader two or three times while going through the rooms where you leave the equipment
so KAtt receives chop chop. I think it's slightly advantageous this way, I think; after attacks, changing positions seems to take more frames

if i can't withstand megid, I will have to level up. Unless Raja can, and will then ressucitate everyone. If we can resist, I will go with hahn I will try something : buy only one silver shield

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/180848054/Phantasy%20Star%20IV%20%284%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv i'm after zio. it's slightly longer, mainly because the AI for this game is utterly unpredictable.
